    Speak for yourself.

I know there are people who are really into things being super-thematic (and that's great for them, honestly) but personally I'd rather have things that I think are cool.  Greedo, Obi-Wan and the Inquisitor was one of my favourite expansion waves despite the fact that it makes zero sense for them to be alive during most of these campaigns (let alone involved in the goings-on of the empire/rebellion confiict).  I like all those characters, though, and they have fun and thematic abilities, so to me they were a huge positive addition to my campaigns.  Same goes for the likes of the Emperor and Jabba; it makes no sense for either to be directly confronting a bunch of no-name rebels on some backwater planet somewhere, but I still love what they bring to the game since their abilities are fun, unique, and do a really good job of fitting their characterizations.

Yoda would be the same, and he's at the top of my list of figures I'd like to see added.  I'd be really excited to see how they build him mechanically, since I think that (like they did with Thrawn) they could do some really cool things with him.

And if you don't think he fits thematically?  Awesome!  Don't buy him and your problem is solved :)

That's what I thought with Agent Blaise, and then the app made me dig out his token and play him anyway.

My biggest disappointment in IA is the game has been out for years and still no talk of a Yoda pack!

yoda, Chewie, r2, and Vader are the franchise mascots. Not only is yoda one of the coolest characters with awesome ability, it just feels wrong not having a Yoda miniature.

I mean there is yoda tree toppers, lawn ornaments, cookie jars, coffee mugs, pastry cutters, slippers, Yoda everything, but no Yoda IA figure. Kind of lame.

Because it makes zero sense thematically.  It is only good for skirmish, where people don't care about such things, only more plastic and new abilities.

I am intrigued by that as well.  4 unique allies in a 6-mission campaign sounds like a lot, considering past campaign histories (built in mission scenario allies have never showed up in every missions).   Add on top of that Hera and Chopper (yes they are from a completely different wave, I wonder if FFG will have come up with a mechanic for that since "small" campaigns do not usually allow inclusion of side missions) and we have potentially 6 unique allies that could fit the campaign.

Maybe it hints at a (separate and different) app campaign coming along with the box, both being themed with Lothal!  That would be great!  All 3 official ways of playing the game (1 vs 1-2-3-4 campaign, App campaign and skirmish) released at the same time!

That's a good point.  What if the small box campaign is the prelude to a larger app campaign.  It seems allies show up much more in the app.

While it may not make sense thematically (there's a reason modern armies use guns instead of swords), it's done that way for balance reasons. Ranged units have very flexible target selection, can switch targets easily, and they don't need to move very far to attack their target. Melee units have to spend more time getting to their target, and once they get there, they can only attack what's right next to them. Melee units have to commit to a target, put themselves in more danger, and they take longer to do it. So they need something to make up for all those sacrifices, or no one would play them. In most games, that means that melee units hit harder, are more durable, and have better mobility.

If you want to justify it thematically, you could say that it's easier to hit someone with a lightsaber when you're right next to them than it is to hit them with a blaster from a long way away.

I understand that in principle, but is that what happens. I can understand it with a lightsaber, Jedi are supposed to be a little super powered (though not Force Unleashed level), but even so, the ranged characters do not hit as hard and they are far squishier once you get to them.  In the old paradigm, ranged is like a glass cannon, but in many games they are glass, but they lack the cannon.  I call it the Rogue-Ninja problem in which melee characters are more powerful than their ranged counterparts.  It's like the video series World of Roguecraft where a guy sets out to deconstruct how rogues were, at the time, better than very other class.  I suppose it is fine if they are costed fairly, but I'm not sure that is always the case.  I'm sure I'm wrong, because I don't have the mathematics savviness to break it all down, but for Tress' cost, she looks cheap in comparison, especially given her ability to recover.  It's like they wanted to make Wolverine, but couldn't.

I like to imagine these guys rappelling from a rooftop and through a window right before posing. I considered it vital that the shards be flat and matching with each other, so I smashed some old plexiglass and glued the shards on.

From what I've heard, it's actually incredible.

Yeah, I heard that about The Last Jedi too.  I won't believe anything until I hear more trustworthy sources.  Ron Howard is a good director. Rush, Apollo 13, Heart of the Sea, and the Shootist are some of my favorite films.  My daughter loves Curious George 2.  Also, we know Ron did Star Wars the way George imagined Star Wars should be before Executive meddling gave us what got in 1977 (thank goodness), also known as Willow. So if anyone wrangle a decent story out of the Disney's attempt to ruin it, it is him.

That being said I won't rest till Therm Scissorpunch is added to the game.

  7. The thing is there have been several books and comics involving Zuckuss and 4LOM.  This is why old school fans want them.  I'll say it again, we have BT-1 and 0-0-0 which have zero screen time in anything, but are only in a comic series.  They aren't in Rebels, or Clone Wars and they have no history of EU appearances.  They were also popular in Star Wars Miniatures.  I can't explain the draw.  They've even had Robot Chicken episodes made about them, and they are **** funny.  I've liked Zuckuss for a while, so maybe that's why I'm so passionate about his inclusion.

But the elite Jawa Scavenger is the figure that creates the "fourth" affiliation - the Droid army, so could not have been replaced by two bounty-hunters that just stood there in one of the movies.

It's a fair point about them being Mercenary faction.  I forgot about that aspect.  But to your second point, where are BT-1 and 0-0-0 in the movies?  So if both are based in alternate canon, I think they are ever bit as viable as potential characters.  At least Zuckuss and 4-LOM have been around since Empire, they weren't shoehorned into the OT timeline in the last couple years.

    We need Zuckuss and 4-LOM.

I'd take Aurra Sing and/or Bane after that, though.  I also wouldn't mind a couple more jawas, while we're at it.

Pretty much, I'll buy it if FFG releases it.  I like having the miniatures for the game.

I would like to see Aurra Sing as well.

I think this shows they have to "reach" for named Imperials as much as they need to "reach" for non-trooper Rebel ideas.

There are quite a few iconic named individuals for the Rebellion.  Galactic Empire? Vader, Palpatine, Fett (and maybe Krennic but if you add him in, you just opened up the door for 5-6 named Rebels :D).

Crix Madine would make a great addition to the Legion landscape.

Again, not entirely true. If you are interested in both campaigns then the only overlap between the two cores is the rulebooks, tokens and dice. And you’ll likely want extra dice anyway. The second Core would have different tiles, different miniatures, different cards and different scenarios.

It would be expensive, sure, but the Core is already significantly more value than any other expansion and this would still be true.

But that second Core, fully compatible from the campaign side, could help as a reboot for Skirmish. It could come with sufficient miniatures for three faction teams (possibly even introduce a fourth faction), and introduce a tile set that all map rotations could be pulled from for OP.

As such for Campaign mode, the second Core would just act as a particularly high value expansion and be totally optional (for campaign you are not ever forced to purchase anything). But for Skirmish it would represent a new, fresh start and a method of keeping the initial buy-in cost low for new competitive players.

So you are suggesting a new box that functions as very expensive scenario for campaign players, but is really a self-contained skirmish reboot that makes all other IA miniatures irrelevant, but gives a full set of "teams" for 3 or 4 factions?  So essentially you want a skirmish only IA core? I think A1bert has it more correct.  What I think we need is a new box that takes all existing cards and tries to up their viability.

I think a second edition is definitely needed, due to the level of inaccessibility with Skirmish and the high cost of entry. Because of the rotating map system, the game requires you own the Core, several expansions and figure packs just to be able to play in a tournament.

I don’t care about figure costs or imbalance but right now if someone wanted to play in an X-Wing tournament they can do so for under €100. For a game like Shadespire they can play for about €40.  The current costs for being able to play in Imperial Assault is about €250.

A second edition is needed to re-evaluate this system and introduce a competitive field that is cheaper to enter. Obviously it’s FFG so you’ll want to buy everything but it’s far more enticing to new players if the entry point is affordable.

Also not having to carry a bundle of map pieces or multiple play mats to each tournament would be good. As would a play mat that is usable for more than a year...

A so-called second edition could be fully compatible with the existing material but be both a time-jump for the campaign and a redesign of the tournament play for Skirmish.

Legion is IA second addition for skirmish.  If there was ever a second edition I'd hope it will be campaign only, like Descent.  You are right about the entry cost, they are super high... for skirmish.  Skirmish was originally secondary for IA.  I wish it would have stayed that way.  With the app, however, there doesn't even need to be a second addition, because the app can make changes to enemy abilities with just a small update.

  13. I must be one of the few people that like the dodge, and it has plagued me too.  I think it was a good mechanic at the time of release.  Now we have so many character that have 3 attack dice, and some type of extra damage, that people just lose their minds when their ultra attack is stymied by the dodge.  I say, good.  That's the way it should be.  Combat is chaotic.  There are plenty of, too many in my opinion, mitigating rules against it now.

Most characters that are long range shooters don't have more dice, they have built in accuracy.  The game, to me, seems fairly balanced on this front.  After all, a Barret 50 does a lot of damage at a long distance.  I think the right balance of hard hitting weapons is weight, i.e. slowness of movement or requiring that a unit cannot move and attack in the same action to simulate setup.

In theory, FFGs new ability to adjust point values via the app when they want.  There are some statements regarding upgrade cards themselves going away, although the component spreads seem to dictate that’s not 100% accurate.

So... will this fix things? No. What will probably happen is they’re going to continue to break things with new content, fix it, break it with more new content.  But I think the user experience will be better in that the fixes will either change point values or change how an ability works that will be clearly visible in the app.

    I was actually talking about X-Wing 2E.

I don't want to disagree with you, but I do.  The problem with X-Wing at this point that it's out of control.  The make something new and break something else, they try to fix it and they ruin something.  The FAQ is bigger than the RRG, I feel like half the cards I have are errata'd to the point where they don't do what they say they do, and the top tables at each event all end up having at least one ship in common.  They could continue the cycle of break and fix, call it quits with the game in a bad state, or do this - overhaul everything.

How is that going to change?  The problem with most table top competition games, and I see it here, is everyone keeps wanting something new.  I don't blame FFG for offering all this plastic because people seem to have an unending thirst to spend their money on something "new" which continues to screw with the meta.  I know the word power creep is verboten around here, but that is exactly what goes on.  New plastic with new rules that make old plastic obsolete, except in certain circumstances where a piece has enduring value, and then every list has it and every list that doesn't have it wants a copy of of it.

Star Wars minis, the original Rebel Storm, was a pretty good fast and easy system.  But the desire for more characters and the desire of WoTC to reap in the cash, led to constant introductions of characters that outright broke the game.  The rules got extremely convoluted, and turns would take forever because there was always twin attacks on double attacks with everyone having some kind of save.  The game became drudgery.  I don't play X-Wing competitively, but it seems like if you take the initial rules, the game is quit quick and fun, but once every ship has multiple cards it starts to become tedious.   Maybe a reset is what is needed, but all I see is it reset and then going right back to the same problem.

I don't want to see a second edition of IA.

I see the release of X-Wing 2.0 to be a cash grab of the highest offense. XW is currently their best seller, I don't see how this doesn't offend the majority of their base players...

I agree with this.  The second I saw the article, the song Send Me Your Money by Suicidal Tendencies started going through my head.

Meh, honestly the biggest problem with Zuck and LOM is that they look too similar.

While Fett, IG-88, and Bossk have really cool character designs, at least Dengar looks silly enough to stand out.

LOM and the Zuck (not Mark) still have cool character designs, it's  just  that even though one is a droid and the other a big bug creature, they almost look too similar for more casual fans.  Both with big insectoid heads, neutral colors, very little screentime.  And in Star Wars, that is pretty much interpreted by the audience as shorthand that they're simply two random henchmen (see: every stormtrooper ever).

Image result for 4-lom and zuckuss

It's just hard to compete with Fett, a giant blender robot, toiletpaper head, and a literal dinosaur.

I'm not saying that we'll never get them (I hope we do just so these requests can cease already) but I totally get why they're so low on the totem pole.

They have more comic and are in more novels than BT-1 and 0-0-0 the evil C3PO and R2D2 of that gawd-awful series with Dr. Aphra.  They have no screen time, and have never had action figures outside of the miniatures for this game.  On top of that, this is a game about tactical combat and it includes Ugnaughts.  They really represented battlefield type characters in their brief appearance in Empire.
