What is the future of Descent ...
Will FFG ever produce the missing 12 Heroes from D1e for D2e?
Will there be any further development for D2e (*** NOT *** for the app, but physical content)?
    Will there be a D3e?
EDIT: Why is the D2e Quest Vault and its various issues, bugs, etc. completely ignored?  It started as BETA about 5+ years ago, and continues in that state today.  There would be far more community development for the game if the software simply worked.  There is already an extensive bug report thread for the vault, so all it takes is someone at FFG to pay attention.  If you don't want to maintain it anymore, would you be willing to provide access to the code, so that the community could host it and maintain it?

Their GenCon news article mentions many games but Descent is not one of them.
If anyone is at GenCon and gets a chance, it would be interesting to ask some employees/staff about Descent.  My guess is that they'll say something like "We have nothing to announce at this time" or "No comment".

    Congratulations!  This looks fantastic!
I'm interested in professionally printing this for my own use.  I'll probably wait for a few point releases (1.2 maybe?) to let kinks get worked out.  Does anyone have any recommendations of online locations that can print this?  Would it be possible to have the pages printed at 432 mm x 303 mm and then folded and stapled together (basically, a book version)?

Luckily for us all, including those that keep poo-pooing the app-based play, this seems to be a minority opinion. As stated above the app drives sales of D2E physical products and opens up a new revenue stream for the game (in-app purchases). From a player perspective we have new options for using our D2E toys (never a bad thing), and you are free to completely ignore it at your leisure. These new options in no way change "traditional" 1v4 D2E. I'm still scratching my head about those that insist on being so vocal about their distaste for digital content for this boardgame. It's been stated by quite a few (including myself) that Descent was collecting dust on shelves until the app came along (my Imperial Assault collection is currently in this state, please hurry with the app for that FFG!). FFG has seen ample proof that this marketing strategy is working. If you don't like it, fine, but know that you are still going to reap benefits from the apps existence whether you dig it or not, in that it freshens up the product line and makes it viable against the plethora of dungeon crawlers that have hit the market recently. If you don't like it, cool (I guess) but IDK what it adds to the community to keep stating "nope I won't be buying any of that silly app stuff". That horse has left the barn.

    Hey "FunkheaD",

I've been playing RTL with my wife.  Some thoughts/suggestions.
My wife likes playing games but we're not big board game geeks.  When we play, we are usually pretty free with re-rolling particularly bad rolls  We play on the easy setting as we're going more for fun.  If you guys enjoy being defeated with higher frequency, you may enjoy the harder difficulty (I haven't tried it). We've been playing with 2 heroes each.  While this is fun as you have more options, the downside is that there are more/harder monsters and things just take longer.  If you're concerned about the pacing, you may want to attempt 1 hero each (remembering the 2-hero advantage of an extra attack or healing each turn).  This would keep things moving faster.  I would recommend a Warrior and a Healer.  The Knight's Advance skill is pretty invaluable as with two players (and 1 healer) attacks are less plentiful and more important.  There are several good options for healers.  Again this is up to your discretion. I might suggest playing the short campaign first on your own so you can reacquaint yourself with the rules and specifics so you don't have to keep halting the game with your wife to lookup rules (though, of course, it will still happen).  To speed things up, I find this rules summary pretty useful.  Lots of good links here including Zaltyre's excellent Glossary of Terms and Guide To Range and LOS. Yeah... I bought most of the expansions as well.  I added a few of the boxed expansions.  The nice advantage there is that you'll face a wider assortment of monsters.  Downside is that many of the monsters won't be painted  Adding an expansion also adds optional sidequests that may randomly become available as you play. Closing thought.  I started playing with my wife on the regular "Shadow Rune" campaign.  This was sometimes frustrating for both of us as we at times felt that the other player's actions or abilities "were not fair".  This problem is totally mitigated with this co-op mode so that's super nice.  We've had a pretty good time playing together though we've been taking our time. Thanks!

Yesterday, I had planned for a quiet 4th of July.

Quite frankly, most of my days are quiet these days.

My friends were not about to let that happen.  G-d bless them.

They showed up at my house most unexpectedly at 10 am.  I wasn't even dressed.  They brought food, drink, and were prepared for a day of fun, whether I was ready for it or not.

For the first time in more than two years, I got to play D2e.  For more than 12 hours we played with the app and battled the demons of Terrinoth.

Tomorrow, I turn 75.  This morning, I am thoroughly exhausted, mentally drained, and feeling ill.

It was the best **** birthday gift I have ever received in my life.  I love my friends.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but, once FFG wraps up their Descent expansions, it would be awesome if they released an expansion pack, similar to the Hero and Monster packs, but if it just contained miniatures that replace tokens already in the game.  They've done this with the Lieutenants and some of the Allies, but there's more to be done!

Here's what I'd like to see:
8 Villagers (4 men, 4 women) (Base Game) 1 Reanimate Familiar (Base Game) 3 Summoned Stone Familiars (Lair of the Wyrm) 1 Wolf Familiar (Labyrinth of Ruin) 1 Desmond Ally (Nature's Ire) 1 Raven Flock Servant (Manor of Ravens) 1 Scourge Servant (Chains That Rust) 1 Brightblaze Familiar (Bonds of the Wild) As a bonus, I think these could be made into miniatures.  These are a bit more single use so I'd be less crushed if they skipped these.
1 Desmond Ally (Nature's Ire) 1 Cardinal (Shadow Rune) 1 Tyrus (Heirs of Blood) These tokens aren't really appropriate for miniatures, unfortunately:
Shadow Soul Familiar (Shadow of Nerekhall) (Occupies same space as other figures) Skye Familiar (Bonds of the Wild) (Occupies same space as other figures) Pico Familiar (Bonds of the Wild) (Never placed on the map) Here are my ideas for some other things they could include:
Ornamental miniatures that would be placed outside the board or above existing obstacles:Boulders (1 space boulder replacements) Green trees Brown dead trees Stone pillars Hero sheets for some of the Allies (E.g., Desmond) A quest or two Did I miss anything?  Have any other ideas?

Thanks to any2cards for the list of proxies on the index of useful links page!

I think many people have caught this but this app is just a digital version of the co-op expansions. It doesn't track hero or monster position (except monster placement), it doesn't automate rolling die. It just replaces the cards used in the co-op expansions.
It DOES build on these expansions though. The current co-op expansions are a single long quest while this app permits a co-op campaign with shopping and gaining experience points. Also, it's programmed to incorporate all the expansions you already own. Pretty cool.
If you have enjoyed the co-op expansions, you should enjoy this.

So I've been reading the thread for several days and decided to finally chime in... not that I have much to add or matter all that much - but I think some people are taking the new app either personally or worrying too much that it will ruin the game... and to some extent - may be missing an actual message I think FFG may be trying to send.

@Indalecio (Not saying you are worrying too much by the way - just using you because you talked about the Overlord role as vitally important.) - I get that for some (many?) - the Overlord role is what really sets this game apart from some of the others. Having that active antagonist - not just a run through a guided adventure/campaign story like a DnD campaign - has been what has really set Descent apart from other similar themed games.

For me - I own 100% of first edition and had purchased most of second edition until my group just decided we weren't going to play anymore. We got a little tired of the formula... a little tired of one person always having to be the Overlord. (Not that we didn't enjoy it now and again... we just didn't enjoy it like we used to.) And ultimately we stopped playing. It never sees the table anymore... which is a shame - because I really love the theme, game play, excellent quest/story writing, top quality components, etc. I actually ended up pushing my Descent boxes out of the way to the back of my storage area cause we never played anymore! We started to periodically play games like Galaxy Defenders here a little, Robinson Crusoe, Pandemic Legacy, and found that we really started to enjoy the cooperative experience and had several times commented on how it would be great to have a dungeon crawl campaign experience that was coop. (There are also a lot of KickStarters that are doing this... I backed Sword and Sorcery for one and look forward to getting that late fall hopefully.)

My fear for this game - once I saw the book expansion - was that Descent 2e was about to be closed up development wise and we would have that inevitable wait for a few years for a 3rd edition. For 1e - we got the several expansions - 2 campaign ones, and then the book at the end was ultimately the last we saw of 1e materials. We got the same for 2e here... several expansions both large and small... (a zillion LT packs and H/M packs) and then finally the book! Figured that would be the end of it.

The exciting part for me - with the announcement of the app - was not only that they are adding a mode I can play solo or as a coop campaign experience we were hoping for in my group - but also that the game itself isn't "dead" in the eyes of Fantasy Flight! You don't invest the needed amount of development time for something like this - only to kill off a game. It has not only re-excited a game for me I thought was done - I've already picked up the missing expansion I hadn't purchased yet (so hey, already more revenue for FFG because of the app!) and I will be picking up the app and IAP Day 1 to put my money where my mouth is in support of this type of play.

The App doesn't kill the game we love and know already. It only opens up a new avenue for us to play if we choose to. Will there be app only content? Of course! App only physical components? Probably not? I am very hopeful they release physical expansions that will offer both more traditional style quests/campaigns - but that will offer even more tilesets and monsters to use in the App.

I would be so excited to open up an expansion box that had a new theme, new area, new quests that we could (if we wanted) play in the traditional manner... but - that same expansion would open up a new series of quests we (or I solo) can play with the new environments etc through the app. (Heck - it doesn't even need to be in a box - could just be a cellophane wrapped pack with a book of quests and several cardboard punchout pages and I would still pick it up! As long as it expanded what I could do through traditional play and in-app game experiences I'd be all for it!)

Lastly, and I think very importantly, I think this app (and new cooperative mode) is really a very strong response by Fantasy Flight to a newer trend in cooperative board gaming. I picked up Sword and Sorcery off KickStarter - but there have been a dozen+ other really viable KickStarter coop dungeon experiences in the last year or are currently running. This app, that utilizes a WEALTH of existing content (a TON of stuff is already here!) and turns it into a cooperative adventure with Fantasy Flight basically saying "We got this... no need to look elsewhere." Cause really, we know the mechanics are sound. The tiles and miniatures from FFG are always top notch. We know they can make fun and engaging quests. They have proven they can make good apps... Elder Sign is very well done for example. And now we get it all from FFG with components we already have.

I cannot wait to get my grubby paws on the app and to start trying it out!

This is first and foremost a game.  If the Overlord agrees with the Heroes that they can combine the shopping and experience step, knock yourself out.  The FFG/Descent police will not come knocking at your door (maybe the ghost of Kevin Wilson...)

If the Overlord wants to change which card to buy based on the items and class abilities purchased by the heroes, they should be able to.  I don't think the strict ordering really matters much.

I think there are a lot of important points raised in this topic, but at the same time this is the internet. It's incredibly easy for a discussion to turn into something more destructive than constructive. To that end, I'd like to ask a general question:

Without assigning blame to particular parties, what specific things would you like to see done differently with the FAQ/Errata document? For example, it's one thing to question its layout by expansion- but how would you prefer it?

Again, I'm not trying to minimize the concerns that have been voiced- I'm simply trying to maintain a constructive conversation as opposed to a long list of complaints. I also think (while the common opinion is certainly that the FAQ could be much more) that it's important not to belittle the effort that has gone into this game. Maybe it's my experience as a researcher, but there's little more frustrating than putting a lot of effort into a project and- not just having the outcome be less than you'd hoped- but having others assume because of the result that effort was non-existent. Rather than framing the discussion of the FAQ as an attack on FFG, let's stick to the document (or the involvement of the company as a whole) and what we'd like to see.

Thank you.  Very much.  It is nice to see that I am not completely going insane, feeling like I was the only one bothered by all of this.

The sad thing is, if Descent was "licensed" like Star Wars is from Disney, I flat out guarantee there would be far more attention paid to this product by FFG.

It really is sad, because I do feel that Descent is a sweet game.  Much like Mansions of Madness.  Unfortunately, I guess I am going to have to decide whether or not I continue to purchase and invest my time in both playing the game, and supporting it through these forums, when we can't get FFG to do the same.

One more point.  Sometimes, people state that rather than complaining, you should help do something to fix the issue.  Fine.
