  1. Thanks @Garran and @Absol197 for your responses! They are very helpful.

@Absol197 you mentioned Survival of the Fittest, and I had a related question today that I think your detailed write up answered. Specifically a Hermit with Survival of the Fittest, Force Rating 3, and 4 ranks of Survival would still NOT be able to bond a Silhouette 2 animal companion, correct? My reasoning is that since Survival of the Fittest doesn't actually increase your Force Rating, you wouldn't have Force Rating 4 at the time of bonding the animal.

  2. My apologies if this has already been asked and answered elsewhere. The Search function for the forums was not very useful for finding the answer if it was.

My question: can a player commit dice up to his max Force Rating if it is temporarily boosted by a talent or item (e.g., Knowledge is Power, Survival of the Fittest, Unstable Kyber Crystal)? All of these talents boost your Force Rating for one check, but can you commit that many Force dice at the end of the check to maintain an ongoing effect, even if the character's Force Rating would revert back to normal at the end of the check?

    TIA!

  3. That's a bummer:-/ not being able to multi-class would drive me nuts, but that's because I live for finding amazing combos to make something great and fun.

It is kind of strange that the Mystics don't have One with the Universe from a thematic perspective, but then it's also strange that Consulars don't get Knowledge is Power.

  4. That's a very good comparison to other talents. Based on that, I agree that you are right, and One with the Universe only applies to yourself.

Haha, fair enough. The more awesome talents the better, especially for a light side user. Dark Side users have the Magus. I don't have the Mystic book with me, so don't have the long description of Font of Power, but the short description in the talent tree says characters within Medium range, so I think it definitely applies to you too based on that wording alone.

  5. It really is tough to say what the intent is. I would tend to err on the side of it adds the pips to all checks based on the wording and now comparing it with other talents and Force power upgrades that have been published since Sage. But definitely did not read it that way initially, so wasn't sure what the RAI was.

To be fair @Absol197, the Mystic does have something like this, and arguably better: Font of Power in the Prophet spec. That talent doesn't require a check, or a few minutes of peace to use it ahead of an encounter, and for your light side allies, there is no risk you will be providing them Dark Side points.

  6. Thanks for the input, @P-47 Thunderbolt!

I was thinking something similar for creating the doses, but was trying to figure out how to set difficulty. One thing is was thinking was that if the player wants to use toxins from animals, he must first pass an Average Survival check, upgraded twice. If the animal is domesticated or incapacitated, downgrade the difficulty once. If the animal is the Pathfinder's bonded animal, or he uses Influence to subdue it, downgrade the difficulty twice. Then, with the harvested toxins, he must pass a Medicine check of some difficulty to turn it into a standard drug (e.g., stimpacks, neuroparalytic poison, neurotoxin, etc.). I am debating if that check should vary depending on what he is trying to make, or if it should just be a straight Hard check (the idea behind that being that it takes some knowledge of biochemistry to turn the harvested toxins into a drug with proper dosage). For example, the Vornskr from Force and Destiny has a mild sedative in its tail, giving it the Stun 4 quality. It would take some pretty good medical knowledge, in my opinion, to figure out how to concentrate that toxin to make an anesthetic or neuroparalytic. Does that make sense?

As for the arrows, I completely agree if he is just making Broadhead arrows, but I think the idea is that the character would be Green Arrow-esque, custom making a bunch of trick arrows using substances harvested in the wild. The arrows would be used either with a off-the-shelf bow like the FS19, or a crafted one, if the PC so desires. Because there are so many possible arrow designs, I was thinking the skill requirement and difficulty would vary, depending on the type of arrow he is trying to make. For example, a simple Broadhead arrow could be average Mechanics or Survival, and Advantage could be spent to give it bonus qualities, like extra Pierce if narratively the arrowhead was well-honed to a sharper than normal edge, or Vicious if narratively he got creative and added a spring-loaded barb, or Accurate if say the fletchings were perfectly aligned or the arrow perfectly balanced for better flight dynamics. Similarly, Threat could be spent to make the arrows Inaccurate, reduce Pierce or damage, make them whistle louder as they fly, etc. A good PC would probably have no problem crafting these simple arrows, but what about an Explosive arrow that I argue should require a Hard Mechanics check to properly design the explosive tip? Or a Stun or Net arrow, both of which should also be Hard Mechanics checks, in my opinion. I think it could get interesting.

And for the arrows delivering poisons to enemies or medicines to allies, I was imagining arrows with injectors, again from the Green Arrow show. Perhaps not realistic because of the energy involved, but I wonder if there would be a way to design an arrow with an injector on an otherwise blunt tip that would hurt no more than getting hit by a paintball at close range? Anyway, I figured those arrows would require a Hard Medicine check to redesign the hypodermic needle to survive the impact of the arrow and disseminate the drug effectively. Poison could also just as easily be laced on Broadhead arrows but I would argue this grants the bow the Unwieldy 3 quality (to reflect the need of the user to be coordinated so they don't stab themselves with the laced arrowhead), and I would definitely spend Despairs per Savage Spirits to have the PC cut themselves and get a partial dose of the toxin.

I'd love to hear any thoughts on these ideas!

  7. Hey all,

I have a player who wants to make a very interesting character, but I am not sure if crafting rules exist to do everything he wants to do. So I thought I would reach out and see if anyone knew of rules in books I don't own, or if you had suggestions for how to homebrew something.

The basic premise is he wants to make a Pathfinder/Alchemist that wields a bow for stealthy combat and ranged healing (i.e., shooting teammates with injection arrows filled with stimpacks, medicines, or potions). He wants to be able to craft his own arrows and potions/medicines/poisons, ideally using natural substances harvested from his animal companion(s) and other flora and fauna he comes across on his travels. And eventually, he wants to use the Identify Ingredients and Blooded talents to deliberately expose himself to natural substances to identify the components and try to create new medicines and poisons inspired by nature throughout the Galaxy!

I love the concept and definitely want to encourage it, but I can't seem to find rules for crafting medicines or individual arrows. Closest I can find is the Simple Projectile Weapon (which sounds more like the bow than the arrow) from Special Modifications, and Alchemy crafting from Unlimited Power, which is more about weird witchcraft type potions than actual medicine. Does anyone know if better rules exist for making individual arrows or medicines? If not, I have ideas for both that I can write-up later to get feedback on balance.

    Thanks!

  8. Doh, totally right @Hiemfire

I got Bastila and Satele confused again. That happens a lot with me because of the same last name. My bad!

And I know Bastila fell to the dark side, but she started and ended on the light side, so I still think of her as a light-sider primarily. That said, I suppose that does mean it might not be a predominately light side power. Plus, looking at the ARC-170 expansion again, looks like Palpatine has it built-in, so my guess is it will be neutral.

Or, maybe it will be double-sided like Palpatine probably will be? Light side gets Coordinate, Dark Side gets a Jam action or something along those lines? That could be really cool.

I'll bet it'll be our first Light Side upgrade. Meditation seems very unsithlike, ref. Maul's pacing back and forth while the Jedi sit there in TPM.

I hope it is light side only. I only know of two Force Users in canon who ever mastered it: Yoda and Bastila Shan, both Jedi Grand Masters. Plus, it is all about teamwork and buffing your friends, not anger and aggression and self-promotion as would be the sith way.

  10. Thanks for the info! That's the part I don't have experience with, gauging the value of a Force charge+Evade action vs a Focus that doesn't cost a Force charge (and I didn't actually work out the probabilities of the dice roll). It's good to know that Evade is still better than Focus on 3 or less defense dice.

@AeroEng42 as a new you player, you likely didn't see the horrors of 1st edition "token stacking." There were ace type ships that had so many tokens and abilities (offensive and defensive) that effectively gave very little reason to actually roll the dice because the odds were so high that with the token mods available, that the dice would just end up getting all the results that ace needed (Soontir Fel or Grand Inquisitor of 1.0). That also meant because they were "unhittable" that they could just end up in opposing ships firing arcs and not care making them too powerful. If these Jedi had access to a white evade along with their 2-3 stack of Force charges (for the named Jedi), the odds of hitting them with any 3 dice or lower attack become very small. So overall, it's a game balance issue.

Now where the Purple evade can still be valuable is with a Jedi Starfighter that takes the Delta 7B Config where it drops the agility to 2. An evade on a 2 agility ship becomes more valuable for defense as you will likely want to use the remaining force charges potentially on the offense you spent the points on that config for.

You are right, I didn't experience the insane token stacking in 1.0, but I have heard about it when listening to all the changes made in 2.0. I think my point (and again, this may be my lack of actual experience coming into play) is that if the Evade is basically a white Evade as found on other ships, except that it costs a Force charge, it doesn't seem very good. Mathematically, would it be more advantageous to take a Focus in the hopes of being able to change multiple dice from Focus to Evade or Hit instead of guaranteeing an Evade on a single die? Plus, if you Focus, you would have an extra Force charge available to change a Focus on either defense or attack or to power one of the pilot abilities (like Obi's ability to get that Focus you took as your action right back).

I am not saying the purple Evade has to be a bonus action, but I don't see how it is value added unless spending the Force charge lets you "break the rules" in some way, like the previous idea of still having access to that account even while stressed (effectively the same as Fine-Tined Thrusters in that regard).

I don't think there has ever been any reason but wishful thinking to suppose that Purple Actions are somehow bonus or surplus to taking a white action.  Folks shouldn't get their hopes up.

They better be more than just spend a Force charge to take that action as your normal, unstressed action or they will never be used. I would rather spend my action taking a Focus and saving my Force charges for Fine-Tuned Thrusters, changing dice on attack or defense, or the pilot's special ability. If they were just normal actions, it would make the Delta-7's subpar of it contributed to their cost.

I like the idea that they can still be used even while stressed. That would make them worth something.

Oookaaay… I'll start rooting for it to be faction locked... In my opinion the 2 super aces factions don't need anymore help.

Haha, I am too new of a player to know how broken it might be. I was just theory-crafting based on what I saw on paper. Faction-locked would probably make sense though.

  14. Thanks @thespaceinvader

I will be sad if your best guess is the case. From everything I have gathered, the Evade action in 2.0 is pretty weak, so if it costs both your single action and a Force point, it hardly seems worth it. The article made it sound much better than that, but maybe that's just FFG trying to make it seem better than it is.

I look forward to seeing the official rules update.

  15. Hey everyone!

I am a new player, drawn to X-Wing by the new Force mechanics and the prospect of being able to fly Jedi fighters! I read the preview article today but am still a little confused by the purple evade action on the Delta-7. Since I am not a practiced X-Wing player, please forgive if this question reveals my ignorance.

Does the purple evade costing a Force charge mean I can take a normal action (e.g., focus) and then spend a Force charge to take an evade action as well? Similarly, does the Delta-7's ability mean I can spend a Force charge to both Focus and barrel roll? If this is correct, can I combine the abilities and spend 2 Force charges to Focus, Evade, and barrel roll after I fully executed a non-stressful maneuver?

    Thanks!

This is the list i will bring to the vassal leagues, as it is Hyperspace legal and seems to be so much fun being able to dance so much, even tough it might be hard at initiative 4/4/5.

I posted a similar build above since I love Kare's maneuverability, but I was using Ello instead of Snap for another initiative 5, highly maneuverable attacker. After the points update, I think that list is now sitting at 196 instead of 200. I have never played it though, since I am a new player and was just theory-crafting something that looked fun to fly with one of my favorite ships from Star Wars.

So, I would be very interested in hearing how the tournament goes, too!

  17. I am a new X-wing player looking to build my first list, and I love the look and maneuverability of the T-70. What about this for a 3 T-70 list? Would this be any good?

I'm currently hunting the same thing. I've found a couple sets about Legends and KOTOR but nothing for clone wars or new trilogy which I'd prefer.

That's still something. Where did you find them? Are you aware of any tools to create custom cards?
