  1. Do they? I've talked to plenty of people that didn't take the plunge on Armada due to the sticker shock of the core box. Speaking from my own experience I was only able to justify taking that initial plunge because I snagged a $50 set on Amazon. I get that Armada is cheaper than 40K but that doesn't make it cheap. Combine that with a core set being the only way to get things like a damage deck, basic obstacles, or official range ruler (outside of a Prime or whatever they want to call it year to year) and I think they might be better off doing a smaller set that gives you the basics for $40 than the basics plus ships for $100. It would be a moot point if they actually sold some of these items separately like they do with maneuver tools or dice.
  2. Then call it a basics pack or whatever you like. It's a cheaper way for folks to get the essential game pieces, damage deck, range ruler, ECT, and get into the game.
  3. I would be happier if they didn't include ships in the core set at all so it would be cheaper and players could buy ships ala carte.
  4. We MIGHT see a tease at Gencon followed by a teaser article but I wouldn't expect a full article until the quarter before it actually releases. So Q4 this year?
  5. I'm actually fine with the current system as it gives a tournament a separate meta game that you play over all of your matches in trying to maintain your tournament points. While I understand it can be frustrating trying to chase down an enemy that disengages thus denying you a 10-1, I would say it would be more frustrating to know things have gone off the deep end and you have no chance of gaining anything for that game. In that instance one loss would basically kill your day and make the other games almost superfluous. With the way it currently stands I can at least go all Fabian and keep my ships (and tournament standings) in the field with a 6-5 loss rather than running them into a suicidal situation that I know I can't win by turn 2 or 3.
  6. Which is why, as an exclusively Imperial player, I am looking forward to playing the Republic. A faction with an aesthetic I prefer and squadrons that can be multi role.
  7. I would be very surprised if any ships they've already released get a remold to be in CW. Why would they when FFG has already put in the expense of designing a Pelta or Arquitens? Sure, there's some difference in specifics between the eras but I can see that being an easy/cost effective shortcut to release. And IMO (as the kids say, if they still do. I'm old) I can easily see the Venator being a medium base since there is some variation in the size of ships in each size class. Wookieepedia has the Interdictor class star Destroyer at about the same length as the Venator and it's a medium. The CR-90 and Gladiator are both small bases despite a 450 meter difference. FFG could make the Venator a medium and just balance it out on capability and points cost.
  8. I don't see them including them with a core set but I think that could absolutely be the first campaign box they release once CW is out.
  9. I like this idea. It's sort of like the character missions in Imperial Assualt but with just a small part of your fleet.
  10. I'm also really enjoying the role play aspect and that's driven my fleet choices. It's the Rim and ISDs are the new hotness so they're going to be more prevalent closer to the inner worlds. That leaves VSDs, Gladiators, and other clone wars tech to defend against terrorists.
  11. In my task force list building I'm finding that Decimators are actually staring to look pretty good in a similar role to what you're talking about. I don't ever take them at 400 but, at 200, 3 blue battery dice and 8 hull for 22 points start to look pretty sweet.
  12. It's certainly going to require more practice before I feel comfortable with it, between the huge swing at each click of yaw and ALL THE UPGRADES.
  13. I know the fleet I went against was built just to go up against an SSD.
  14. I played a 400 point match up against a Raddus list and was able to win. I wasn't able to kill his MC-75 that he dropped in my rear but I was able to take out his Liberty and two GR-75s. As first player I was also able to get to speed 2 and stay out of close range of the 75. My two Repair crews Gonzatis probably pulled 6 damage off of it over the course of the game on top of only engineering commands from turn 3 on. Final score was something like 200 to 54.
  15. I pre-ordered in March and got it Saturday.
  16. My only initial concern was how well the bridge would handle it and it seems to be just fine. The foam provides enough pressure to hold the model in place without feeling like it's crushing anything. The only adjustment I want to make is to cut a channel in the foam to store the cardboard to keep it from moving around in transit.

  18. It's interesting to see just how tanky the SSD is and how much variance can be built into them with different upgrades. Our next FLGS tourney will probably have a few of these matchups.
  19. I wouldn't doubt that it is a one or the other type of thing but, if it is, I'm struggling to figure out when it's actually going to be more useful that just taking an ISD. It's going to be hard getting in range for those black dice to matter that often, unless the red tint means that all those dice may be used at long range.
  20. You can blame JJ and his desire for things to be more "epic". He did the same thing in the '09 Star Trek by scaling up the Enterprise for no reason other than he thought it looked better on screen.
