I don´t care about price vs ships. I care about contents vs packaging. There is no way the content "fills" that box.

Is there any need for the top half? I can` t see it myself...
Perceived value packaging really makes me angry. It is just irresponsible.

you know a lot of this could have been solved by more stratification...  instead of scrunching all the pilot skill into 6 slots bump it out to 12... have no idea WHY they decided to only have 6 ps slots... at least with 12 you could differentiate better..  lol didn't see Larkey's post...

I don´ t get why they simplified the pilot skills down to 6 levels. Removing Veteran Instincts was great, but everyone got sandwiched together it seems. What would be the case if initiatives were increased threefold up to 18 as a possibility. (Wedge gets 16, Vader 17, Han 18, for example) Wouldn´ t it eliminate this bidding war and open up each squad to its full potential?

Because science fiction has never been a vehicle for social change, or a tool for imagining ways things could be different than they are.
    That was sarcasm.

Larky Bobble reacted to Alyx'sDog in Hyperspace format is non-inclusive towards women of color.
I’ll start this discussion off simply, the Hyperspace format is effectively a large banlist. The largest “local” event that most players will travel to will be a Regional/Hyperspace Trial, and to accommodate training for those, many smaller events will likely be Hyperspace as well. This, combined with the fact that the newly-released ships will always be in Hyperspace, will make it be the predominantly played format.
Star wars has historically been drastically under-representative of both women, and people of color. Women of color are especially lacking in the setting, with literally zero appearances in media in the OT, and only starting to be added to the newer canon recently. While the original underrepresentation may be unintentional and not malicious, the setting should try to be as inclusive as possible going forwards.
I came into x-wing semi-recently. I had been pointed to the books/Comics involving Admiral Sloane by a friend, who said that there was a strong black female character in star wars. I initially doubted them, but found them to be enjoyable and the character to be well written. Star wars finally had a character I could associate with as another black woman in some form other than a throwaway background character in an EU book.
The same friend then mentioned that she was a playable character in the X-wing miniatures game, and that she was not simply a token character inserted to fill a slot: Her abilities were game-defining in how squadrons under her command would fly. I had played a couple games of X-wing with said friend, and decided I would try to take the plunge into the game on a larger scale. I bought a conversion kit
With Admiral Rae Sloane’s removal from the Hyperspace format, FFG has effectively banned the game’s only black woman.

OP's suggestion aside, points reserved in an attempt to secure an initiative bid is NOT points "not used". You're literally using them to gain advantage, in the same manner as if you'd spent them on upgrades. The points are used for a purpose. The only way they could ever be considered "not used" is if initiative was determined by random roll, regardless of list point value.

Right now anyone who wants to play has to buy a rebel vs imperial core set.   New players may not want to invest in those factions, for one, and x-wing 1.0 players with loads of x-wings and tie fighters do not want to buy more.  Can we please get a resistance vs FO core set?
Awkwardly proxying a core set until then, or until somebody gets me a core set for xmas.

At least GW produces its models in the UK. That ain`  t cheap...
But the price will always be set to the level that people are willing to pay, in order to maximse profits. I suspect that X wing was underpriced though, in order to help with market penetration. Now it has a large, relatively stable, player base, they can set a "real" price.
They (GW) raised prices again though. Last month... It has always happened at this time of year.

GW got away with p'ing off their customer base for at least 15 years playing the same game. When you've got a product with relatively inelastic demand, otherwise known as "plastic crack" for hobbies, and people are hooked you can annoy your player base for a while...
As I stated, when it was announced, the App reduces the incentive for them to playtest. It also lets them play games with initial points levels, that are then "fixed". In general you should expect the real new releases (as opposed to 2.0 relaunches) to be skewed towards undercosting, as overcosting them is just bad for business.

Do they have to sell the new A-wing model or the old one? Sorry for being cynical, but I was expecting this. Expect a real adjustment six months to a year after release, when sales drop.
And then expect the new hotness to be undercosted.

Correct. However slightly undercosted is better then DOA, and keeps the meta in flux.

The last I heard Asmodee was taken over by a private equity group. Capitalism is presently based on short term profit maximisation to satisfy shareholders (otherwise the directors could be jailed). You can call it greed if you want, but it´ s the nature of investment, really.
As someone who pulled out at 2.0, I don` t care about the prices (but I do love a good debate, especially about board games and S.Wars) but I thought the increased card count was the justification for the price rises across the board (bar Boba). Snazzy packing makes it easier to tolerate. Standardising prices to box (base) sizes is probably for customer convenience, strangely. Wait till the YV-666 comes out to see if holds...
However, from a debating point of view.-- You made claims that you are now avoiding and appear to have no means of substantiating. You have resorted to an insulting tone against someone who appears far better informed than yourself. Poor form, the onus is on you to substantiate or withdraw your claim.
And finally... The two forms of thought in economics are based not on names. In reality they are Profit Maximisation or Utility (satisafaction) Maximisation. What is best? Everything else descends from that.  (Marx was in favour of Private Limited Companies, for example, whereas Keynes was not). But if you think FFG/Asmodee/Equity groups are in it for the Utility maximisation... errmm... good luck!
You may be able to guess the second subject I teach after mathematics...

If manufacturing input prices are the cause of MSRP increases, why haven't prices for armada or legion jumped?

But we all know what the word crutch means in this context, and it isn't positive. It implies the presence of one who is lame.

You really need statistics from a tournament to see what distortion there is if any.
As for I5 and I6 being a crutch I really hate that mentality. It implies wanting to fly such ships makes one less of a player (which isn't true) and ignores the multitude of other reasons a player may want to.

Surely (I don't play 2.0) the lack of tiered costings for upgrades leads them to be more efficient on higher initiative pilots, just like 1.0.
If efficiency in points is a key part of list building, then expect things to still be skewed towards higher initiative pilots, or minimally upgraded hordes.
I'll leave before I get grumpy about 2.0 again...
