zxql reacted to Zaltyre in Please include an alternative for abilities that do not work in RtL
The trouble with alternative abilities is that the heroes don't have cards that say what the "new" abilities are. If RtL were a physical product it probably wouldn't be a big deal to include revised cards for some skills, but then you're talking about hero sheets, too. I'm very much OK with the idea that the marshal is just a "bad" (or at least "sub-optimal") class for RtL. It's designed to be a class that combats the OL, and that's just not something relevant to the app, in the same way that skill affecting the travel step don't really have relevance.
I don't know that I'd go so far as to say they should be separate games because it would be silly to sell the physical components of RtL separately since it would just be an incomplete Descent core set. Even the people who buy D2E just for RtL have the OL components, and might decide to play that way eventually (and invest in more content). People who buy for the normal playstyle can use the app to its full extent without purchasing any new components (though app content won't be free forever). That being said, the gametypes are very different. For some, the OL mechanic is just a problematic quirk- for others, it's the heart of the game.

Hello!
It's been a while but I've completed the next episode in my ongoing Descent painting series. I hope you like it!

zxql reacted to Volkren in The Future of Descent?
What I really...really...REALLY want is that if they could improve the Quest Vault.
The reason why there isn't a full fan-made campaign that mixes all (most) of the expansions, is because it's a nigthmare to create one with this obsolete tool. I mean, I only know 1 campaign that mixes many components of the game into one full campaign an it's Zaltyre's The Legacy of Timmorran...and because he made a post of it with all the links of the different quests...and a PDF as well...
Aside from that, if you are looking for another campaign, you need to look for the Author, search the quests, download them and then, re-name them in the order to play the campaign. I mean, it doesn't encourage you to even try it due to the amount of time you spend in order to create some sort of "campaign book".
I tried to build one but I even got lost between my quests. I had to re-name them by "Act 1-Q1, Act 1-Q2, etc" and I didn't want to publish them like that. Besides, there's no way to delete a quest once it is published, something that makes Quest Vault an ocean of blank/error quests...
Moreover, this tool has been abandoned for many years now. I mean, what if I want to place a Crow Hag on the map? What if I want to use some Old Walls or Crumbling Terrain? What if I want to create a NPC like the ones in the campaign books? What if I want to put influence effects? It really looks ugly and uncouraging to just put: Green Influence Token Effect or Sir Mage (NPC) or The X is treated as a Crow Hag and it's name is...
Oh, and one other thing that prevents people from using this amaizing tool...the login issues!
With just a look to the sub-forum one could see that there are several posts with title or contain saying "I can't log in, I am using X or Y program" I mean, it's like they wouldn't want us to use it. Even I have to log in as Klezor (another account) than with this one...
So yeah, that's what I would like for the future of Descent.
Sorry if my post seems toxic, it's just that I really love the tool but I hate the stage it is ATM. Here, a happy face
P.S. Oh, and if we are asking for things...a decent FAQ/Errata would be nice too, but I might be asking too much...

There's a post where this aspect was discussed. I personally would love a Skrimish Version of this game too, but I don't think they would do it now that RuneWars: the miniature game has been announced.
The closest thing to this could be a PvP version. As you said, a Hero vs Hero/Hero vs Lieutenant. Actually, BJZSN has a PvP variant that I personally enjoy, perhaps asking him (if he's not too busy creating another fun fan-made hero-class) or looking at it on the Quest Vault.

zxql got a reaction from Volkren in The Future of Descent?
The advantage of matt + few cards would be the setup time. Pick up, play one round, put down... No commitments it is something that is missing in descent. Of course, there is the other end - the real RPG feel, but that is even harder to achieve. Skirmish rules + map matts would not require that much development effort and still provide a very fresh variant to descent.

Skirmish matts & skirmish rules!!!! RTL has already provided a faster play option to the game, but still the setup is long if you don't have everything organized with inserts etc..
Skirmish maps could make you ready to play with little to no setup and as someone said - perhaps open a competitive scene for descent.

Hi,
I know this is not the best, but something like this perhaps?

Would be nice to see a non-ghost model in light blue though :/
Edit: these blue ones look nicer:

zxql reacted to kraisto in How does RtL play with 3 characters?
Most of the monsters spawns in the RTL follows the group limit, that its not a big problem. Played yesterday with 3 heroes, really interesting experience, needed a little more coordination by the heroes, but in the end we got a high sense of cooperation. Its a trully fight side by side experience.

zxql got a reaction from Chimpy in How does RtL play with 3 characters?
Hi Chimpy!
I haven't played with 3 heroes so far, but a lot of 2-hero games (with additional attack ruling of course), and some 4-hero games. It looks that 4-hero is more difficult, although this may be due to better team composition in two hero game. I would also like to hear other opinions about 2/3/4 hero balance as it currently stands

zxql got a reaction from The Cocky Rooster in New Update: App crashing
Workaround:
Every time you want to load your campaign, you must create a new one, click until you can exit campaign back to the menu -> then you can load your old campaign.
If you exit the app, you will not be able to load any of the campaigns (including the newly created one). To load anything, you must first start a new one again, then exit it.
Looks like some problem with loading the data / caching?

zxql got a reaction from Volkren in All Healer Party
Hi!
Prophet. I think it's a must if you ever go full healer party prophets starting weapon is just too good. Reach, always 1 extra damage and you can put weakness on tough enemies which will help you defeat them with ease.
Bard. I don't have this expansion, but I know that he has songs increasing party damage. Couple it with the weakness from prophet and you will have enough damage early on to up the pace.
That leaves you with 1 extra class in a 3-hero game. For more damage (AOE + reach) it is probably spiritspeaker, for healing and single target damage - apothecary and disciple is a good self-sustainable middle ground.
Let me know what do you think!

zxql reacted to Volkren in End of turn / stary of turn question
This. Some effects in RtL were change because of the alternation turn. However, the example you expose will resolve as you mentioned: "until the start of the Discipline's Turn". Some other combos will resolve similar too: Roganna the Shade's Feat.
Additionally, effects where a card is exhausted follow the same logic, for instance, if a Thieft activates 1st in a round and before finishing exhaust Unseen, every attack will need a surges meanwhile that card is exhaust. This means that if the Thieft activates at last during the second round, he managed to stay potentially protected two rounds in a row.
Hope I helped.

zxql got a reaction from Luijod in RtL Lava Question
It is mostly related to having multiple identical options. I.e. attacking adjacent hero, when there are few heroes adjacent to you, all with same amount of health etc.. Ending a turn with two unused actions while standing in lava is something any AI would not do, despite the rules tell you to end the turn, it doesn't make for a difficult game. You should look at it as an exploit. The app is dumb, but you can help it along the way as any other overlord would do another option is to sctrictly follow the app, but sooner or later you will find yourself having to make decisions. It is up to you if you need more or less difficulty

zxql got a reaction from labyrinthsecho in RtL Lava Question
Sometimes the activations might be totally counter-intuitive. Having monster standing in lava or being affected by some other contition which is clearly important to be taken care of would take priority in my book.
For example, the activation might tell the monster to spot a hero in range of 4, then attack it. But the monster might already be in range without any possibility of getting proper LOS, in which case it skips all of its activations. I would personally move the monster out of lava or water or anything else that makes sense in such case, rather than keeping it in place. You can find it in the rules that when it comes to situations with multiple choices, heroes should choose based on their own point of view. So you can effectively tailor the game to either favor heroes or the overlord, yet I think that no real overlord would make such mistakes.
