SlotcarDiehard reacted to Khyros in Simple Nerf for the Ghost+Phantom
The ghost has been out for 2+ years now.  It really hasn't been a problem for most of that time (and really isn't a problem today either imo).  Heck, half way through its life it got a buff to the docked phantom, and it still wasn't a problem.  Kanan/Biggs was a thing, and I made sure to play the **** out of it, but it wasn't a top tier list (even if I believed it was the best list out there for the meta at the time).  And now Kanan/Fenn is a thing (which kinda pisses me off because its the natural evolution of my list, but I'm never one to play mainstream meta things, so I'm torn, but that's a personal problem =P).  But it's far from the only dominant list out there.
If its showing up all over for you and wrecking face, then I suggest taking some steps to beat it, starting with list building.  Anything with Autothrusters wrecks it, especially if you can get it into end game.  Even good old x7 defenders does it in rather well.  If the concern is Fenn to begin with, then I'm going to point out that he's a worse Biggs.  If he's using his action to coordinate, that means he has 0 defensive stuff, 1 fewer shields (via lack of IA), and a more restrictive dial (via greens only).  Biggs dies in 2 rounds, Fenn should die in 1.5.  Then your auto thrusting barrel roll boosting menaces will just laugh at the Ghost as it stays in the donut hole the entire time.  Or take Kylo for the easy blinding for 2 rounds.  Sure, you still get the end of combat TLT shot, but without the first shot (which really wants to be the primary weapon shot), the end phase one is pathetic - you haven't been able to strip tokens yet to make it do anything.  And even if it's going against the 1agi things out there and doing 2 damage... you have 70+ points doing 2 damage a turn, that's AWFUL.
Pretty much don't take Miranda/Nym and expect to beat the Ghost.  You won't.  It has more health and firepower than you do, so it will outlast you.  It's almost like it's the rock to your scissor, but no one wants to play those paper arc dodgers because Miranda/Nym cuts them up with those bombs.  Huh... Who'da thunk?

So, what I take from this is just in the top ten there are: 19 different ships, at least one from each wave except 6 (most wanted) and 13, no TLT's or bombs in the top 3, the majority having an "arc matters" element, and a variety of control, offensive, and defensive strategies. I know people around here hate hearing this, but that's good. Right?

Those people are few and far between and you shouldn't care about what they are thinking because they are scrubs. Believe me constant whining of nerd herders on this forum got nothing to do with "real" X-Wing in material world - in my LGS for example we have explosion of new players, all of us play competetively, try meta lists and no one whines about some silly things that local forum nerd-herders whine. Vocal whining minority consists more often than not from armchair experts, they don't find the pleasure in this game, only satisfaction for them comes through constant whining.

SlotcarDiehard reacted to Cubanboy in Happy Friday if X-wing was Dark Souls would be treat it different?
First a big happy friday friends,
Two thoughts have been rolling around in my head this week and I cant help but think there tied into each other and it brought me to this question. First If you don't play Demon Souls / Dark Souls/Bloodborne (Nioh is along the same line) there are excellent games known for being tough and challenging the player, they are also in a sense unfair at times. A small variance in a jump or attack / a frame rate hiccup can lead to you dying. I am by no means a good player at these games but I do have a Plat Trophy for Bloodborne (meaning I have achieved every standard the developer set) I have beaten each game many times and next year I look forward to becoming a One Bro (never leveling once and beating the game) I say everything not to get a pat on my back but there is a mindset that people who play Dark Souls (aka Souls games/type of souls game) that the odds will be stacked against me and will be what is seemed to be unfair but through skill and stragty I will overcome something that 95% of people quit.  Currently in x-wing I want to be a better gunboat player because they are a imp swarm which I have fallen in love with, do I think they will win worlds NO do I think they are disadvantaged Sure, but do I think my will to play them will be broken Not A Chance. Every game for me going forward is figuring out the puzzle before me, taking what I have and doing better each time until I win.  In this is my thought and point, If we approached X-wing like Dark Souls would the game and community be different?

    I think so.

Good luck this weekend. Shout out to Ryan Farmer, Chris Allen, Paul Heaver, Nathan Iv (thanks for wrecking me on stream), Duncan, Hornet Doc,  Zac Matthews and so many others I have gotten to meet over the last two week. I am enjoying this game more today then before to my local player buddy Kyle, you are amazing, Jim and Biff I cant express how much you both are outstanding, To FFG Wade thanks for entertaining my stupid questions, To Coach you are a great person, Gold Squadron THANK YOU FOR STREAMING. Thank you Mrs Cuban for giving me up for a weekend of stupid.

Last Gunboats are this to me right now "Yet another stands before us... Then so be it. For the curse of life, is the curse of want. And so, you peer Into the fog, in hope of answers."

    CHEERIO,

    Tim

I play him a few times a week at my home with my friends. I try different combinations of upgrades. Some work better than others. Sometimes I win, and other times I lose. But I always have fun when playing him. This practice works for every ship in my collection. So, I think that he, and every other ship, is very much alive. From a certain point of view.

Awesome! The space slug is my favorite scene in the movies! We've tried a few variants at my house that went over really well. One was "Space Slug Village" where each asteroid is assigned a number. Beginning of every turn roll a d6. Every ship in range 2 of that asteroid gets attacked by the slug! Roll 2 attack die and take hits and crits. On a double hit, assign the condition "Swallowed!" to that ship. The ship is suffers 2 damage and then is removed from the board. At the beginning of every turn, place a stress token on "Swallowed!" and roll an attack die. On a hit or crit, discard "Swallowed!" Deploy the ship anywhere in range 2 of the asteroid with the stress from "Swallowed!" attached to it. If "Swallowed!" has three stress tokens on it, destroy that ship.
The other is "3720 to 1." Double the asteroids. Beginning of each turn set a dial to a straight maneuver. Spin the dial on top of an asteroid until you get it to stop on top of it. The player who has initiative takes a 2 straight template and moves the asteroid, placing the template in the direction the maneuver arrow is pointing on the dial. Try to get it so the arrow is in middle of the template. The asteroid can be rotated in any position, as long any part of it touches the other end of the template. Normal collision rules apply. If the template goes through the ship, treat the ship like it went through an asteroid. Alternate until all asteroids have moved. If one goes off the edge, another appears the next turn within range 1 of the asteroid closest to the opposite edge. It's placed by whoever has iniative and it doesn't move that round. It's a little finicky but a **** of a lot of fun!

Dude, take your habitual negative cancericity somewhere else, like go play Destiny or Legion or something.  X-Wing Devs do a great job and you're nothing more than a cotton-headed-ninny-muggings who no one takes seriously and loves to complain about a great game that is in a great spot.

Okay, I'm only half-serious about this idea.
Well, more like about 10% serious.
Here's some Star Wars space monsters that live in the vacuum of space.  Some of them have to be on asteroids, taking swipes at things that come within range one I suppose.
    Maybe for epic?
No, this is a terrible idea.

Saboteur! Stay on Target! Cikatro Vizago! I love trying to find interesting uses for underused upgrades. Most of the time they end up being one trick ponies but when you get them to work, it's such a great moment. My brother and I play only jank at the house but I have taken Moff Jerjerod to a tournament. It's always fun seeing people's faces when you bring a banana to a gun fight.
