I never understood it as one use. In my view it turns Aragorn into Henamarth Riversong.

The card text says:" you may add ... to  the victory display ... "
If you choose never to use this option you can simply look at the top card of the encounter deck.

You can still debate if that is worth the deck space but at least in solo-play Henamarth has saved my **s several times.

Big update for the app! It now tracks rounds and threat, and you can set the number of players and assign player names. I find my games to be a lot less fiddly when I use this app.

Even easy is not that easy indeed. Many quests have a kind of puzzle aspect where you have to find a right strategy and tune your deck to it.

There is also a blog series that (https://darklingdoor.wordpress.com/2018/05/17/path-less-traveled-the-road-darkens-player-cards/) that does plays of boxes using only the core cards and the ones in that box. It has covered The Road Darkens.

In case you hadn't already, check out Beorn's path for a good introduction.

I made an Android app for keeping track of willpower, threat, and progress during the quest phase. It's called "LotR LCG Quest Phase" and is available on Google Play here: https://bit.ly/2QX9KNW

Played Intruders in chetwood only once in 2 players and easy mode. No training, succeed with only 2 tokens. I'm quite happy.

I will again restrict to core+cycle cards. This time there was a dilemma because there are 2 natural deck choices in the Angmar Awakend cycle: Dunedain or Noldor. But Erestor decks are one of my favourites and easier to solo than dundeain, so I picked Erestor.

I don't have Harad cycle (and so won't participate in January), I don't know which card would be great/interesting for this cycle, so let's say a card I like : Gandalf hero.

The road less travelled (https://darklingdoor.wordpress.com/path-less-traveled/) explores each cycle using only core+ that cycle. Those decks are for 1 player, if I understand well you are looking for 3-4 decks to use together.

For groups of 3-4 decks that work together, you can check the fellowships on ringsdb (https://ringsdb.com/fellowships). I don't know if anyone ever posted a fellowship with your restrictions. But nevertheless there is a huge numbe rof decks there. You can also restrict the search to only include packs you want to use.

    Hope this helps.

Physical products are getting astonishingly expensive to produce, all the moreso if one wishes to keep up FFG's famous quality of materials and art. This makes any overstock in a warehouse or slow-moving products on a store shelf deadly, for publishers, distributors and retailers alike. There are also big increases in shipping, storage, employee wages, etc. Physical products in general are going to only become more expensive with time (until we get Replicators).
FFG's solution seems to be to have slim production runs. Far better to run out of copies and lose some sales than to overprint and have your revenue destroyed by dead product, or so they seem to be thinking.
As a retailer selling their products, I can't fault them for this strategy. I have to sell about 3 copies of a game to see any return on investment. That might not be too hard to do if the store were only full of hot sellers, but half of the new games that come out struggle to sell even 1 copy. For every game like that, suddenly I need some other similarly-priced game sell 4-5 copies instead of just 3, not only make a profit on itself but to make up for the failure of the slower product.
The end result is that the cult of the new is almost a requirement in this industry. "Evergreen" products are not really ever green. Most of them dwindle over the years, and they can't afford to sit on their laurels and let the hobby mellow. There always needs to be a push for the next hit game, even if it's at the expense of steady sales in an established game. They can't afford to wait for LotR to cool off before they start to think of what comes after it.

I did the Into Ithilien today, first game went down hill quickly after failing to clear Ithilien Road. Second time I got a good opening hand and pushed through.

    People prefer different things.
But one thing I've noticed people like to do is compare the depth of the current state of the tabletop game to the early-access core set of the digital game. Obviously the game with a 7-year head start on the card pool is going to be deeper.
Thinking back to the core-only days of the tabletop game, bow much content did I actually get for the $40 I paid? Well, Passage through Mirkwood was a really easy quest meant to teach you the game, and I only played it once. And since Escape from Dol Guldur was impossible as a solo player, it left me with only 1 enjoyable quest to play. On the player card side, the deckbuilding was very shallow, as nearly half the cards were overpowered staples (Eowyn, SoG, ToW, Hasty Stroke, Feint) and the other half were overcosted for what they do.
Meanwhile, the $8 buy-in to the digital game gets you 5 playable quests, with future one-off encounters being free once they get released. You get more total player cards, and way more playable player cards because they use the gameplay data to buff the underplayed cards until they become useful.
Having been around for the core-only days for both games (well, the core for the digital game isn't even done yet), there's no comparison. The digital core set provides much deeper content for a fraction of the cost of the tabletop core set.

PigsAreOurEquals reacted to BigKahuna in Lord of the Rings Quest Companion Gets a New Home
It's my pleasure and privilege to announce that the Lord of the Rings Quest Companion has received a new home and will be preserved for the foreseeable future.  In cooperation with its creator Banania, Gamersdungeon.net (my tiny and humble blog) has become the new host of one of Lord of the Rings LCG best resources (in my humble opinion).
You can find the direct link to the new site here (http://lotr-lcg-quest-companion.gamersdungeon.net/).  The campaign companion has also been debugged and brought online you can find the direct link here (http://lotr-lcg-quest-companion.gamersdungeon.net/campaignlog/)
I would imagine most of you already know what the tool is for and what it does, but here is the original post from Banania that describes it (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/225595-the-lord-of-the-rings-quest-companion/)
The initial plan for the Companion was to simply preserve it and that first goal has now been accomplished.  However it's my hope that we can do more than maintain it as an archive, I hope that the community can come together and volunteer some of their time to help us update and maintain the site to include future releases.  Volunteers are welcome and appreciated!
My general plan for the site is for it to remain free forever, advertisement free with no catches of any kind.  All I want to do is preserve this great resource.  We will however sometime in the future setup a donation page which will allow the community to contribute to the permanent maintenance of the site and potentially for its expansion.
For now, enjoy it and be sure to thank Banania for all of his hard work and dedication of creating this great resource,  he has done a wonderful job and deserves all of our gratitude!

In that Sense the Path less traveled blog and Seastan's minimal purchase mode are kind of rotations of a single cycle.

Most of all I agree that in a co-operative game rotation is not needed. Just agree among your player group if you want to restrict deck building or not. Many players enjoy thematic plays which is a strong restriction as well.

Hmm, let's wait and see. Especially after the hobbit movies my initial reaction is skepticism to any adaptation of Tolkien's work. This game has been a wonderful exception because they work hard to stay consistent with the original works.

Yeah why not. I quitte like the deckbuilding puzzles.

Has anyone ever tried building an encouter deck and seeing if you can beat your own best decks?

Just a random thought, I haven't put any thought into how well this would work.
