  1. In case you missed it, Rebel A-Wings got all the buffs we predicted for them. Namely, extra talent slot for everyone, and a moderate points reduction for all but the base generic. Basically this means your old A-Wings builds can get Predator (or something) for free. As RZ-1 A-Wings are my favorite ship (EVAR!!!) I’d like to discuss or new options with them here. Rather than posting whole lists (because there are too many to count!) Im simply going to post some of my favorite new builds for each pilot. First, the creme de la creme, Arvel (Motha F@%#ing!!!) Crynyd, oh baby! Beat stick: Arvel, Intimidation, Predator - 39 points. This will probably be in every list I play forever. No missiles needed since he can’t shoot them at range 0 anyway. Just take a focus and then apply boost directly to the forehead of the opponent. Budget option: Swap Crack Shot for one of the above Talents, but really, just cut points elsewhere. Next, Jake (The Snake) Farrell, saw the most points cut going from 40 to 36. The Support Flanker: Jake, Outmaneuver, Predator - 44 points Jake runs around the outside of the board with a GSP and if the stars align perfectly, he gets double mods, passes a focus to his wingman, and double repositions, and then reduces the targets Agility. The Lone Snake: Jake, Lone Wolf, Outmanuever - 47 points This Jake does his thing by himself, acquiring double mods, repositions, and reduces Agility. Fit him with Prockets or a Concussion Missile for maximum (and pricey) hurting. Concussion missiles work with Outmaneuver, Prockets do not. The mighty Green Squadron Pilot. Ah, how I used to love running the Green Arrow list back in 1.0. As such, I’m super excited to dump way too many points in to an A-Wing again and see how far I can take it. The Flanking Wingman: GSP, Outmaneuver, Predator - 40 points on the nose I really want to run 4 of these plus Beat Stick Arvel, zipping around in pairs and just makin a mess out of everything. Budget Mini-Swarm: GSP, Predator, Crack Shot - 35 points Four of these bad boys leaves you with 60 points left to spend. That much goes a long way in Rebels these days. Options I’ve looked at include, tricked out gunboat Nora (Y-Wing), Lowhhrick with cheap crew and Intimidation, decent Wedge, Kyle with kit, B-Wings of various configurations. Finally, my least favorite, but probably one of the best in game, the Phoenix Squadron Pilot. My disdain for these guys comes from a combination of lacking talent slots, hating how awful the pilots were in Rebels, and hating the chubby version of the A-Wing they flew thanks to Disney’s artistic liberties. Yet even I have to admit, with the sudden inclusion of a talent slot, (didn’t see that coming) they became probably the best A-Wing around. There are really only two variations I see as viable. The Super Blocker: PSP, Intimidation - 33 points You can fly SIX OF THESE at once! They’re I1, meaning they get in position first, and clog up all the lanes. Does Intimidation stack? I don’t know, but hot **** if it does! Even if you’re not running the swarm of Vader Fodder, you would be hard pressed to find and better way to spend 33 points in any faction. Hands down, best blocker in the game. The Crack Head: PSP, Crack Shot - 31 points Perhaps not quite so cheap as a Black Squadron TIE, but better health, dial, and a useful ship ability are easily worth the extra four points. Run 5x with a 45 point wingman of some sort. Cavern Angel w/ R2 Astromech to be an anchor? Got any wild new A-Wing builds? I would love to hear them.
  2. That upsilon list might actually make Resistance Han’s ability relevant in the meta. Scavenged YT-1300 Light Freighter - •Han Solo - 112 •Han Solo - Jaded Smuggler (76) Trick Shot (2) •Rose Tico (9) •C-3PO (6) •Rey’s Millennium Falcon (5) •Rey (14) T-70 X-wing - •Poe Dameron - 83 •Poe Dameron - Trigger-Happy Flyboy (68) •Lone Wolf (5) R4 Astromech (2) •Black One (2) Integrated S-foils (Open) (0) Ferrosphere Paint (6) Total: 195/200 View in the X-Wing Squad Builder Ideally Han deploys last, starting behind the Upsilons already. There is plenty of bid to work with if necessary. Poe should be able to Slam and Boost our of most arcs on turn one. His priority is to survive long enough to get behind them.

    Double-Tap Vennie

Could put Squad Leader on Tali, or an In1 A-Wing. I really like PerCo paired with Rey, but it precludes the amazing Paige/Veteran Gunner double taps.

    Rebel Crack Heads

I’ve been real interested in A-Wings and E-Wings since Monday. Rebels used to run 5x SnapCrack GSPs, and now 6x Phoenix Squadron Pilots with Crack Shot can fit. (Or 5x Cracks + 1x Intimidation) Dropping back to only 5x ships can get you some great value though. I’ve included Gavin in his E-Wings, so now all the A-Wings should be Cracking in to a crit. Combining him with 4x Crack PSPs leaves 10 points left over. I took those 10 points and upgraded one PSP to Jake. He flys at the same initiative value as Gavin, has an almost identical dial once you add R4 to Gavin, and provides Gavin with a focus. Veteran Turret Gunner's time to shine

I posted this one in my A-wing thread a few days ago. I haven’t gotten to fly it yet, but I’m excited to get a chance to. Legendary Rogues

I flew that Gavin with 3x A-Wings the other day and he was awesome. The crits were really mean. I’d be interested to see what 3 E-Wings can do now.

    A-WINGS!!! - Post Points Change

I got to play a couple games with my buddy tonight. I ran the following Gavin plus A-Wings list: E-wing - •Gavin Darklighter - 77 •Gavin Darklighter - Bold Wingman (61) Outmaneuver (6) Fire-Control System (2) R4 Astromech (2) Afterburners (6) RZ-1 A-wing - •Jake Farrell - 44 •Jake Farrell - Sage Instructor (36) Outmaneuver (6) Predator (2) RZ-1 A-wing - •Arvel Crynyd - 39 •Arvel Crynyd - Green Leader (34) Intimidation (3) Predator (2) RZ-1 A-wing - Green Squadron Pilot - 40 Green Squadron Pilot - (32) Outmaneuver (6) Predator (2) Total: 200/200 View in the X-Wing Squad Builder During the first game, he flew Dengar w/ R3, Lone Wolf, and Punishing One Bossk with Lando and stuff, and the tractoring Mining Guild TIE. I set Jake and Gavin together on one corner and the GSP and Arvel towards the other. This game was over pretty quickly when the A-Wings jinked Dengar in to a bad position and then Arvel blocked while they swarmed. At the same time Jake did a 5 straight with a boost to get from one side of the board to the other, and join in on the Dengar beat down. He was left at one hull. The next turn the GSP and Jake SLooped and got behind Dengar, taking him down. While all this was happening, Gavin got behind the party bus and started laying the crits on. He had Bossk to half health while still behind it when Dengar died, that’s when we called the game. I had a few take away from this game: 1) Predator is easy to line up on large bases. 2) The combination of Outmaneuver and Intimidation really allowed the A-Wings to put some damaged in quick. 3) A-Wings are at least better than the JumpMaster and YV-666. Second game was against Oicunn, Turr Phenirr and Echo. In the end it was just an untouched Echo finishing off the last A-Wing. I don’t remember all the specifics of this game, except that I beat on Oicunn for a lot longer than I wanted to. I should have focused on the small ships first. Oicunn with Death Troopers really messes with Arvel in particular and A-Wings in general.
  8. So with the drop in points to all the X1s and the point drop for FCS, you can now fit a perfect 5x Tempest w/ FCS. Another new option, and probably one of the ones I’m most interested in, is the Storm Squadron Special. They’ve retrofitted all their ships with hull upgrades since they know their ruthless squadron mates won’t hesitate to pull the trigger. TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) Total: 200/200 View in the X-Wing Squad Builder Finally, another variation, this time slipping in Jendon in place of the fourth Storm Squadron. He gives them early locks and then provides meat for their ruthlessness. Lambda-class T-4a Shuttle - •Colonel Jendon - 50 •Colonel Jendon - Darth Vader’s Shuttle Pilot (46) Shield Upgrade (4) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 50 Storm Squadron Ace - (40) Ruthless (1) Fire-Control System (2) Hull Upgrade (7) Total: 200/200 View in the X-Wing Squad Builder Seems exciting, perhaps TIE X1s might be fun now?
  9. I always run Wedge with at least an R4, it only affects the 2 hards, but having that option after a Talon Roll or Focus -> Boost has been crucial in quite a few games. Personal preference I guess, but if I’ve got the points I take an R4.

    A-WINGS!!! - Post Points Change

I was cooking up a similar list and decided to upgrade two A-Wings instead of trim three. Lando should be able to help the A-Wings squire target locks for the concussion missiles. Use the concussion missiles more as three dice attack that interacts with Outmaneuver, instead of a super turn 1 alpha strike. A-WINGS!!! - Post Points Change

Leia helps, and I’ve looked at running her on a Wookie Gunship with the budget Crack Shot + Predator GSPs, but A-Wings aren’t her ideal candidate. A-Wings tend to self induce stress tokens, so still end up stressed after pulling a flip. Unmodified shots are better than no shots though.

    A-WINGS!!! - Post Points Change

My first reaction is that I don’t want my A-Wings taking their own damage, let alone sucking damage off someone else. That may just be a thought trap caused by years of failed green dice. Selfless has been amazing when I played it on massed B-Wings/X-Wings, but those ships have a lot more health to justify 3 points.

Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

@LagJanson @GreenDragoon I began this thread in Squad Building yesterday to discuss A-Wings, as I too am excited to discuss A-Wings, the coolest ships ever created. The big winners as I see them are Intimidation Phoenix Squadrons at 33 points, Intimidation + Predator Arvel At 39 points, and Outmaneuver + Predator GSPs and Jake at 40 and 44, respectively. Crack Shot is interchangeable with Predator.

The first of many A-Wing lists I’ll be dreaming of. Luke tells Green Squadron where to be, and then attempts to live forever. GREAT lower initiative pilots- Resistance edition

I was looking at Vennie just this morning. I’ve been wanting to put together a Gunship StarFortress with 3x A-Wings in support. I just can’t find space for bombs of significance. Remember, Vennie’s ability only price on friendly turret arcs. The T-70s won’t help him. You could trade the Shield Upgrade and 3PO for PerCo in this build. PerCo is more offensive oriented. Five A-Wings

I’ve only played 2x games with 5x A-Wings so far. The second game I ran Tallie, Lulo, and 3x GSEs all with Heroic and AO. I liked the way it flew with two I5 A-awings flying together. I got two uses out of Tallie’s ability, and only triggered Heroic once. To be fair it was against a newer player with a suboptimal list. Tallie felt like she added more to the list than any Talent would. The first game was 4x Heroic/AO GSEs and Heroic/Intimidation/AO Zari against an Echo/Sloane + Crack Swarm. This game didn’t go well as I gave him initiative and then proceed to get hard blocked all game.
  25. Most older players should remember everyone’s favorite cheap astromech from 1.0. For some of us, the reason we own multiple Sheathipedes. It was the first taste of boost or barrel roll for generic X-Wings, and mostly just a lot of fun. Does 2.0 need a direct copy of FAA? I don’t think so. FFG has done a good job with the new action bars on the X-Wings and Y-Wings. As adding cheap action economy starts breaking down the balance of the game, I believe reimagining FAA could be fun instead. My intent is to offer a generic, offensively oriented astromech that is useful to both X-Wings, and Y-Wings. It would “assist” the pilot by automating some of the ship’s systems. With that in mind: —————————— Flight Assist Astromech Small Ship Only At the beginning of the engagement phase, you may spend one charge. If you do, you may rotate your turret indicator or flip an equipped Configuration card. 2x Charges Add Calculate Action linked to a red Rotate Turret Action to the action bar. 4 Points —————————— I see three big effects. 1) Twice per game an X-Wing can side step the disadvantages of S-Foils, or a Y-Wing can get a turret shot with perfect board knowledge! 2) Generic gunship Y-Wings gain access to a minor dice modification when forced to use an action to rotate their turret. 3) Red-Armed Resistance C-3PO gets to coordinate to T-70s and IG-88A can pass calculate tokens to Scum Y-Wings. Would my redesign FAA break the game? Would you fly turret Y-Wings? What would you change? How would you redesign FAA? Here’s to a discussion that isn’t laser focused on the format of tournaments.
