Since your paints are based on the one from your teacher, I don't really see it outside of Kuni Schools, but some of the vassal families may be teaching non-Kuni schools and have face paints.

The Lion clan card pack tells us that a Bear clan existed until the 7th century until it was wiped up by the Lion for being Shadowlands tained berserkers. I would consider rooster for Ryoshun.

The official canonical explanation (in the AEG L5r) is in a really small part of Way of the Shadowlands, it's that the Pit of Fu-leng, when it opened, released kansens and corrupted local kamis, which now respond to the use of blood magic. The explanation about the Seven Fortunes is an in-universe explanation for the problem.

I do not know how many people still use Kaze no Shiro story archive site, but Oni no Pikachu and I are moving all content to kazenoshiro63445525.wordpress.com. The move was made due to the monetary cost of running the site and my inability to pay the bills. We did not want all the old L5R stories to be lost when the bills come up unpaid. The RPG content was rolled up into several archive zips that are made available via OneDrive to offset the space restriction on a free WordPress site (3 GB of space). While media content is welcome (PDFs), please be aware that once space runs out so too will Kaze no Shiro's ability to host any more fictions. This move will unfortunately break all links on L5R Wiki. I am aware the medium is perhaps not as visually appealing, but it is the best we can do.

The Togashi didn't really liked this and were exiled / hunted down, a move that the Agasha didn't liked very much and most of them moved to the Phoenix (which was rebuilding at the time). To ease the fealty change, the Agasha offered the multi-elemental spells to every clan.
