YouTube link of the Kotei opening.
Half of it is in Spanish, an OL5R player greeting everyone, saying that Spain hosted the biggest Kotei of OL5R and now is hosting the biggest Kotei (so far) of L5R LCG. Also, sad for seeing so few Unicorn players, but he understands that the situation is difficult for them.
At the end they do the chant, first the new one, and they end with one Utz-Banzai. Some people try to go for the three banzais, but you can hear somebody saying “Sólo uno, sólo uno” (Just one, just one)

Today we had the chance to try “Battle for Rokugan”. Game is much simpler than AGOT, with main rules similar to Diplomacy. I think it can be played in an hour or so, it took us 90 mins, reading the rules, with 6 players. Nice components (control tokens may become my new honor ones), unfortunately the map is a bit too generic...

Hello! I wish you all good luck and fun times, I wish I was there. I am a descendant of Japanese heritage, and have enjoyed the culture and lore of Legend of the Five Rings over the years.
There is a phrase in Japanese culture that is said to wish the recipient a great many years or prosperity and fortune. A phrase that should only mean goodwill and fortune. I would like to share the good will with you all, that you might share it's meaning and blessing with others.'Banzai' a simple two syllable phrase that can mean alot.
I won't force or tell anyone they must reply, but I ask this thread will only be filled with good feelings and intentions, as I am trying to only do the same. I am not seeking strife or harm. I just would like to share a piece of my heritage, my culture.
If you would like to share the same with others here, and those who have traveled, and are traveling to worlds, who I hope will have safe journies home, and fun times. Please at the end of this return the call with 'Banzai'

Coming in fresh at this topic after 7 pages... but here goes...

I'm not a big fan of most of the L5R story. It started with Clan Wars and never came down, it's gods after gods after armageddons with an apocalypse in between... However, the fact that players made choices and those choices were reflected in cards WAS a good thing. I liked that. The story gave life to characters. Characters with clans, clans who you fight against and for. Clan loyalty was is BIG in L5R.

It's a great thing IMO to see a prize card and reading who/where that story prize was won. Without the story and the story prizes you have a semi-oriental flavoured CCG with too many factions to balance and nightmarish base mechaniqs. I'm not saying everyone who played it was an l5r story buff or only played because of the story prizes... but it is unique and creates clan loyalty and clan loyalty was is a BIG part of L5R.

So, keep the clans (If possible), keep the story going (you must), keep story prizes (In some fashion) and you'll have a community who loves L5R beyond game balance and tournament results.

AEG acknowledges having diverted attention and resources from L5R to getting other aspects of the business up and running. They promised that they would be recommitting themselves to L5R, now that everything else had taken off, but that never happened. There may well be other reasons why L5R stumbled, but a huge one was lack of advertising. No one can buy your product if they've never even heard of the bloody thing.

L5R suffered from lack of advertising and support as AEG focused more and more attention on its brand new shiny children and ignored its first-born.

So, AEG once had Clan stores where they sold Clan Mon shirts, hats, etc. Anyone know if FFG is going to do the same? Anyone know if AEG still has some of those for sale? I can't find anything about it on their store, but then that might be part of what is disappearing, eh?

Or am I just old and losing my mind?

L5R used to have shirts all over the place. I had a bunch but at this point I think I have pretty much warn through all of them. I would be up for some new ones.

To be honest, I believe doom town was made too complicated for most people.

    @ topic,
L5R has always had problems on card design from the beginning of the game up to even now. Problems which were addressed, or which they attempted to fix that either created more problems (though they did fix some issues such as the complication of the game) or made some aspects of the design non functionable or overpowered.

What reeled most people in from the old crew was the story line, the grandness of its scale, and what drew in most of the new folk was the ability of the players to influence this story line.

For me, the story line was what kept me playing both the RPG and the CCG, not the mechanics of how either was played.
The game will always have problems, and I don't even think FFG will be spared as there will always be aspects of the game that will be unbalanced if you take it into a loyalty perspective of people playing for their own factions, clans or themes.

L5R is a wonderful and beautiful landscape and the only loser here is AEG. But if they gave it up because they love the game, to another that could handle it better, well they may have my respect for that. It would depend totally on what John Zinser and crew were thinking.
