Feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know knew at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most uninteresting 40-year-olds I know are now monks.
Get plenty of rice. Be kind to your servants, they’re expensive to replace.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll shave your head at 40, maybe you'll ascend as Fortune at your 75th birthday. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.
Enjoy your katana. Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.
Drink tea, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.
Listen to your shugenjas, even if you don’t understand them.
Do not read the Black Scrolls. They will only make you Tainted.
Get to know your Ancestors. You never know when their deeds might save you. Be nice to your yōjimbō. They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that catspaws come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who owed you favours when you were young.
Live in Crab Lands once, but leave before it makes you Tainted. Live in Crane Lands once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths: Lions will rage. Scorpions will scheme. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, Lions were reasonable, Scorpions were noble and apprentices listened to their senseis.
Listen to your sensei.
Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a mate. Maybe you'll have a wealthy daymio. But you never know when either one might commit sepukku.
Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 30 you will be mistaken for a monk.
Be careful whose poppy you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the jade.

As far as story effects go, it has caused Fire invocations to grow more vigorous and water invocations to grow less vigorous, among other things.

There has been no note whatsoever of Phoenix humanitarian or other aid regarding the tsunami, though it was three years ago in the timeline so there may have been some just not mentioned. Given the way that natural disasters tend to work in this type of society, and the Asahina focus on reparation and redemption, it is likely that the Asahina are still looking for what they might have done wrong to cause such a calamity to befall the Crane.  But we only have one fiction from an Asahina POV and she was somewhat unconventional compared to her leadership so we don't know what they think about the whole thing.

In the Legend of the Five Rings reddit, in the thread were they are talking about "The Last Leaf Falls" fiction, I found this comment which I think it sums quite well what it can be achieved with the redoing the old storyline:
"It's ending up at the same destination but the trip there was so much better."

EXACTLY!

Don't be afraid of 'redoing' the old storyline. They can elevate it.

I think you could probably safely assume that Sukune, O-Ushi and Yori were "back in play" by the end of August or early September, but I guess there actually is a "no later than" date based on the subsequent stories about Yori i.e. when hooks up with Tadaka. 

I'm still working on rereading the novella to get all the dates.  There is a gap between the first scene (where Ros'ku finds the armor) and the expedition, and then the expedition itself takes a period of time. I'm putting, tentatively, the expedition beginning at around July Week 2 but I want to doublecheck some references to make sure that is good.

I'm not going to place every novella event in the timeline of course. I'll try and figure out an end date, though, so we know when novella-tied characters are 'back on the board'.  Shono's expedition, for example, could be really really long.  Sukune's is shorter than that. Yojiro's lasts about a week.
