All the comments have been very helpful.
I think "wait for the paperback" is a suggestion I'll take.
But I quoted Punning Pundit because I do "enjoy the whole Star Wars story" and don't need the book to be Tolkien or Clive Cussler to enjoy.

    Yep
    I think you're right
Question is which RPG is best?
Edge of the Empire has an Assassin. Could still be a sword wielding warrior for justice who can kill a stormtrooper whose kicking children without his eyes turning red and becoming a selfish, greedy megalomaniac.
Or perhaps there's something in Age of Rebellion, as I want to fight for the Rebels.
Question is, since they're still "Star Wars", can I be a vigilante/GI Joe without being labelled an immoral spawn of Satan.

Old man riding a donkey led by a boy.
Passersby say: "it's terrible how that boy is leading the donkey while that old man just sits there."
So the old man gets down and the boy sits on the donkey.
Passersby say: "it's terrible how that old man is having to walk while the boy gets to ride on the donkey."
So both sit on the donkey.
Passersby say: "that poor donkey, having to carry the weight of those two sitting on it."
    So they both walk.
Passersby say: "that poor old man having to walk when he could easily ride on the donkey."

    I wasn't sold on Rebels.
Saw a couple of Clone Wars episodes and megaloathed them. Bad graphics. Bad script. Just not worth any time.
    But
I did see the first episode of Rebels, on YouTube, and was more 50/50 between watchable and irritating. Certainly better than the Clone Wars episodes I saw.

    Well I've tried
I don't want to play an evil character
    I don't want to play a villain
I used Hulk, Wolverine and Batman as a comparison for how far I'd go with such a character. I was even willing to have the momentary flash of rage in his background to explain his low morality. Then play a warrior will play like one of the aforementioned heroes.
But as a teacher once said, with the agreement of fellow students: "you can't even pretend to be nasty". I was on a course and I had to roleplay an angry caller.....I started laughing. Just couldn't be nasty, not even pretend, to the other student who was actually disliked by class and teacher.
Games Master was hoping to play his only two Force Sensitives at opposite ends of the spectrum. Because I don't want to be Dark Side unless I can be honourable and heroic, I'm out. Really. GM wants his Dark Sider and I'm just not going to cut it.
One good thing out of this topic. If you want to be a hero, even an imperfect and flawed Average Joe hero like I want, make sure your GM isn't unreasonable.
He doesn't even want a starting Dark Sider to play a redemption story. I'd gladly start Dark, and perhaps have a Redemption motivation where I battle the beast within to attain inner peace. But that wasn't good enough.
    Bah humbug

    Mandalorian girl too.

The "laser" bolts have very little recoil (and therefore momentum), as evidenced by the Jedis' ability to deflect even heavy weapons laser fire with casual ease. Since the laser bolts are explained as plasma in magnetic bottles they have the mass of an equivalent volume of air

And this is a universe where FTL space fighters wheel around banking in a nonexistent atmopshere at the same rate and speed as WWI biplane velocities. Not to mention magic and lazer swords.

You probably only saw the first few episodes right?

They were goofy, lots of child friendly stuff, some really bad graphics choices on those wookies right?

    Well... SPOILERS

Ezra get's rid of his stupid catapult, and goes on his own Jedi trial.

I just finished up series 1 and OMG! Honestly I implore anyone that gave up on it to at least pick up the last 3 episodes of the series because if you don't think that is "proper Star Wars" then you have lost your way my friends.

Also FFG please do an aces pack with Sabine's tie fighter for the rebel faction!

    EDIT:

Can I just say if you have watched it and still don't like it then fine, but don't post your hate on here let's let people decide for themselves. I'm just trying to say that I was right there with you at the start but i got more and more in to it and the end of season 1 was amazing. I haven't watched the start of season 2 yet either.

War has a way of aging people faster than normal. Take a fresh faced 18 year old that gets sent to a combat zone. When they return 5 years later for instance, they will act like they are in their mid 40's. Its because they have come to the realization that they have already died every day they wake up in the field, and that will change your personality so fast that people wont recognize you if you return.

A source book would be a good idea.I'll wait for that definitely.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. You kinda got lost among all the discussion about the author.
    On that topic.
I'm a heterosexual with religious beliefs who finds homosexuality disgusting. You notice I said homosexuality not homosexuals. They're people too and deserve to be treat with dignity and respect. So if I was reading a book and there was a gay character I'd keep reading so long as there were no graphic love scenes. But I'd close a book if it had graphic loves scenes between a man and a woman too so again that makes little difference.
ALL the reviews and hate I've read, and I've read about twenty, have all criticized the bad writing, poor plot etc. Not one of them ever mentioned the one gay character. Probably because those reviewers are real people who live in the real world and don't see that as an issue. Like me. If most of the reviews berated him in a homophobic tirade, I'd believe this was biased by prejudice and get the book believing those people were blinded by their hate.
Can we please keep this topic about the book.
Whether the author is a cool guy or a jerk is not the point. I know someone who doesn't listen to Johnny Cash because "he wasn't a nice person" in their opinion. Might be true, I don't know, but I just enjoy the music. Same person enjoyed Elton John music, but "went off his music" when they found out he was gay. Why? The music didn't change. Please don't be "that person" who refuses to even consider a book because there's a gay character or the author is a moron.
Personally, I'm not getting the book because more are saying how terrible the writing and plot are. I don't want to spend money on a book that even Star Wars fans hate, and hate for valid reasons.

I disagree about the interludes. I am rather enjoying those.
Actually, I would rather read more about some of those stories than the actual plot of the book.
