TryFal got a reaction from kris40k in different bases for minions and masters
The master monster gets a red trim and the minions a black one that blends easily with the rest. Thats has my personal preference. Here is an example:
Good job on painting, keep it up and show us your future results!
Cheers.

I want Descent Legends to be THE Game. I really do. I want this to be the game that puts FFG at the top of the mountain. I loved Descent 2E and have a decent size collection. I am not "one of those people who will hate the game no matter what. " I was a big fan of of 2E, MoM, and Star Wars IA. I want to be supportive of FFG, because when those games were in production, I believe it was the premier game company.
That being said, I am somewhat disappointed with what we've been shown of Descent Legends. I can only go by what I've seen so far. I am not particularly fond of an app dependent game. I can see technology for managing stats ect...but after a certain point it- either make it a video game or don't. I wouldn't mind if there was an option to it such as RtL app. It made the game more versatile. It's possible that this unreleased app knocks my socks off with something unexpected...but I don't see how.
I don't want any of the people who work on these games to lose their job . I really don't think the art is improvement over 2E at all. It is strikingly reminiscent of the 90s games Monkey Island, and King's Quest VII. I like the idea of 3D tiles, as I have made my 3D objects for 2E. The 3D tiles still do not make it look better than the previous versions. This is my opinion, but I don't think I am in a minority. It's interesting to make the new terrain interractive-I don't think it's justification for making the game less visually appealing. I don't think that was their goal.
Board games are certainly getting more costly. If you make a game that retails for $175, you had better justify it with some serious game play.
From the demo video, it really does seem like the designers really want to put effort to make certain aspects of the game better. I understand it's not 3rd edition. I will do my best to be objective but I don't really understand the logic: The first two editions were games MANY people enjoyed. Instead of improving the aspects of the game people enjoyed...they are redesigning a game in the hopes of making it better. I am unsure of the wisdom in this- and I am not alone.
I really don't understand the logic of discontinuing games people already enjoy in an effort to make new games related to games people enjoy. The best board games are timeless. (Chess, monopoly, Heroquest, ect.)
If FFG follows through and releases the game admits the complaints- there will be a lot of banking on the gameplay. Something will have to make it outshine some of the "cons" mentioned here. I am not writing off buying the game- but that's some serious hopefulness.
I, for one, will take a wait and see attitude. Regardless of how this product does, I really hope for the future of the original Descent/Terrinoth lines. They were great, and I am happy to have played them.

Ow I have embraced it already, by not going for this version* of descent en spend my money elsewhere ;). I’m glad this is something for you, i hope this will gives your money right.
a small note om your point of cost tho. With most big kickstarter projects you get a complete game to play for that amount of money. What could make it more expensive is de FOMO of the addons, which is great marketing. But most titels will give a sh*tload of campaignplay with just the base game and not just the first act...
and the fuzz.. well I guess you aim on all the individuel opinions of the game so far. Well I respect them, the pro and con people, including yours that will get the game. I personally would wait with preordering before I have seen some more gameplay. But thats me.
again, I hope this game will bring you the joy you experiencing now!
Ow and thanks for calling me a nag😘

TryFal got a reaction from leewroy in Descent ‘Despair’ gameplay
After "my personal' disappointment on the announcement of a new Descent product I went looking for something else. I came across a Kickstarter project, Bardsung. Bardsung has a lot of resemblance to descent as a dungeon crawler and in my opinion has a lot of potential as in its lore and gameplay mechanics.
But this game has the same element what frustrates me with most dungeon crawler board games: Luck. Don’t get me wrong, I truly love throwing dice, but within this system it doesn’t matter how strong you are, if you roll a miss, it’s a miss. And sure that’s part of the game and I get that. But sometimes you miss multiple times what gives away the feeling of being a strong buildup character.
So after learning about the combat system on this project I thought about a system (which I shared with the creators) that could also be applied to Descent. So here is my thought about ‘Despair’ in Descent:
Every time a hero rolls a X, that hero gets one despair token, up to 3 tokens max. Depending of what type of character you are, you can activate the despair ability with yet another miss, so an action out of despair. The extra action will look like this:
Melee attack: If you miss, you may discard 3 despair tokens to make the attack a hit. This can only by activated when you have 3 tokens. 3 tokens will give you 2 hearts/hit points, add this to the rest of the result. discard the tokens.
magic attack: after a miss, Discard 3 tokens to make another magic attack. Discard the tokens after this attack. If this attack is again a miss, no new despair tokens are added to the hero chart for this attack.
Ranged attack: If an attack is missed, discard 3 tokens to get: 1+ range and +1 heart/hit point to the attack.
If a hero takes a rest action, alle despair tokens are to be discarded from that character sheet.
Overlord:
I haven’t got a lot of experience with OL gameplay, but for this roll I was thinking of something like: Every attack that misses, the OL gets a despair token, 5 tokens max. If he has 5 tokens (maybe this needs to be more), he can draw an OL card from his deck to his hand. Discard the despair tokens.
What are your thought about this? Is this a suitible mechanic to apply to the gameplay?
Cheers!

That probably explains your opinion more than the rest of your post. The vast majority of people talking about this game come from a background having played Descent 1st and/or 2nd editions. You don't have any basis for comparison because you haven't played the previous Descent(s), and thus the 'fuzz' over Legends of the Dark doesnt make sense to you. Honestly, you are probably their target audience now.

TryFal got a reaction from DAMaz in Hmm. Yay?
Who agreed on the artwork... I’m out of words! The style is a direct copy of CMON games as Zombicide and stuff. And the art work on the tiles!? That’s a direct downgrade compare to other FFG games as IA and D2e... like they had a deadline to make or something :P. But this doesn’t feels like FFG at all
I like the app in other games as addon, but this might be too app driven. And I still like the board game as a board game.
anyway I’ll stop complaining, I’m out for sure.. 200% sure after I saw the price!
sorry for being negative. But I hope the enthusiast among us get what they want.
cheers! (Hopefully FFG doesn’t read this topic.. Some may have some sleepless nights :P)

TryFal got a reaction from twincast in Measuring the support on Descent
Here is an idea for FFG/Asmodeena,
They should launch a second product on the launch day of Descent legends of the dark! How about product DJ06...? You know, the missing item on descent journey in the dark. This way we all win, FFG, the fans, the new fans, all!
And by this way they can measure support on both products. From there they can work on whoever sells best, so they can continue on Descent 2de edition.. I mean the Descent who gets the most support. Win for us, win (and profit) for them! I’m Just saying
I wish they would read more what there customers write...
Anyway just wanted to share this idea with you guys!
cheers

TryFal got a reaction from Watercolour Dragon in Keeping second edition's 'journeys' going....
An idea I always had was something for RtL and was hoping FFG would integrated something like that into the game:
every character has a background story that can be triggered in a campaign. So if you choose 2/4 characters, there personal quest may pop up, but you have to choose wisely because choosing one eliminates the others. And every story has a benefit for the team if completed successfully.
so basically, there has to be 1 mission per character available. That is a lot to produce, but the replay-ability will be huge by it.
maybe you can implement this into your work or something. Goodluck and curious to see what you have up your sleeve!
cheers!

Upscale is online, the eyes and some other parts need some repairing. But is better that it was I think

TryFal reacted to rugal in Keeping second edition's 'journeys' going....
I was thinking of this idea, and it would need to create almost 90 quests ! (And that's some work, but I really like the idea !)
Maybe doing the same with classes would need less work (24 standards classes, 12 hybrids)
Mind to give some help ?

They should put us out of our misery and JUST explain DJ06 just so we know - it's like a cliffhanger left hanging
Gravestone: He never did find out the answer to the great DJ06 mystery
Edit: still time for them to change their minds and make Shadar and the missing heroes

TryFal got a reaction from kben in Did this have to be descent themed?
Yes they should have called it: Terrinoth, legend of the dark, or something like that. The reason they have used descent is probably the get the attention of de Descent fans, like said by Skyhunterd.
The thing is, descent fans wanted more physical content for the 2e, and have asked for it for years, with no reaction what so ever by FFG (with exception of Lost Legends).
And now they show this. And to sum up all the critic: they haven’t listened to the fans. I think descent 2e was in most way almost perfect, it could use some tweakt now and there, like the dice system, but overall its good!
But the use of the word Descent could backfire on them, they hyped it so much with that, that a lot of fans will turn there back on FFG.
I have accepted that this will not be in my collection. I’m curious on how long the support will be there for this game and how well it will sell.
cheers!
