I may get lynched for this but my Luke has been an ACE for me. I mean I haven't kept accurate stats. But I feel like he does good work and then the occasional double hit is so sexy. But I rarely get the blank face. My favorite armada moment was a hyperspace assault with Luke and Keyan and Yavaris. 6 black dice and the shots of my neb b. Very fun. Very very very fun.

I am no expert but I wonder if independence could have some sway to help. I mean 4-6 B wings positioned in a decent manner could get some serious work done. I love independence and have seen a lot of very surprised very worried looks across the table from me when they see their attack lanes cut off by B wings.

By this I mean. He is hoping to fly in pattern A to get to ship X, B wings cut off that route and if he tries it they will kersplode him, if he switches to flight pattern B maybe you have some other ships set up to blow him up. or it really twists his plans. Kinda like how packs of dogs circle and cage a more powerful prey. Back him into where he can't instagib something and then maybe have a shot?

The trick is, Demolisher, on its own, isn't horrid...
Its the combination of Demolisher, with the fact that, for the first time ever, the Imperials have a small ship to pour on activations with it, to ensure that last-first double tap.
Previously, you only had the Victory or other Gladiators to pair it with, and it was more difficult for that.

I joke around alot and I also take dramatic stances on specific things. The one thing I believe in most is a player will play better and have more fun playing with the toys he loves. A player that is passionate about a unit deemed subpar by the community can make that unit shine.
The joy of Armada, at this time, is that there really isn't an overall 'Best' of anything...only 'Best/Most Fun' for YOU...and overzealous opinions.
Its super fun to elaborate on our opinions, but most is settled on the game table.
    Can I get a witness?

Wave 2 was in my mind a great addition. No real "duds" in my book. Added depth and fun to an already amazing game. I didn't really get too many multiples of wave 2 in the beginning ('cept 2 R and V) But now that I have a handful of games under my belt with the wave 2 schtuff I plan on getting some more of the expansions now for some more builds and more upgrade cards I was hoping to get. All in all. Highly recommended.

I enjoy a style I call Chumming the Waters. I play mainly rebels and I enjoy a mix of heavy hitters and bait (Read: Small fish) my deployment is a little wonky compared to what I've seen but it creates this vortex of carnage, the whirlpool of space destruction as they either focus on my big fish and my little guys chomp away or my little fish take the focus and sure they get 50 points but then there is a round or two of them sitting and getting blasted. Granted I play in a very imperial heavy meta, and the ISD is super popular. I also take a very healthy squadron fleet cause they're my favorite. They usually are anti squads. But sometimes I run some bomber action.

Did you forget to move Howlrunner first? Guess you don't get the extra die as well as the re-roll. Did you not move Rhymer first? There goes your attack range. Did you move Dengar first while engaged! Welp, no more intel then.

arrest7 reacted to cruiser2710 in Battle off Fenestre Crossroads
In preparation for Operation Dronier, High Command ordered the reconnaissance of the surrounding area near Eisenborn. 27th Fleet was tasked to reconnoiter Fenestre Crossroads, one of the 4 major channels leading to Eisenborn. 27th Fleet assembled a force consisting of Destroyer Squadron 44 (DesRon 44) and 61st Light Division LiDiv 61) code named Taffy 27, Ozzel was put in command and carried his flag on Prince Eugene.Orders for Taffy 27 was to reconnoiter the area and avoid enemy action. Unknown to High Command, Rebel Command also realised that Eisenborn would be a strategic and decisive spot. Patrols and recon divisions were sent to reconnoiter the location.

Taffy 27 order of battle -
GSD Prince Eugene the Demolisher GSD Prince Albert GSD Prince Rupert RSD Akizuki RSD Teruzuki 518th FIghter Wing
DesRon 44 was equiped with the newly developed Wasserfall Rapid Reload System and their ordnance experts had just completed training with them. Mean while, the RSDs were loaded with the ever-so-reliable G7e Assault Proton Torpedoes. Though, much can be said about their gunnery team that was just posted to LiDiv 61.

Upon arriving at Fenestre Crossroads, no suspicious activity was sighted. To widen his recon run, Ozzel spread DesRon 44 into a line abreast formation while LiDiv 61 in a line ahead formation. the 518th was ordered to act as a picket screen for the ships. While this was going on, a Rebel force arrived at Fenestre Crossroads and deployed in a loose formation. Both forces were unaware of each others presence as strict radio silence was maintained on both sides.

Not long after, both forces stumbled on each other. Seeing that the range was too close to break off, Ozzel decided to engage the Rebel force seeing that the Rebels were in a loose and open formation.

Rebel Recon order of battle -
    Assault Frigate Mk 2 2 NebB 2 CR90

Seeing that the enemy was not in order, Ozzel took the opportunity to move his GSDs first in an attempt to form a battle line. Though due to errors in navigation, it formed an echelon instead.

While the GSDs were forming up, Ozzel ordered LiDiv 61 to carry out torpedo attack on the NebB that was racing up. Akizuki and Teruzuki opened up on the NebB at point blank severely damaging the target. Prince Rupert than closed the range and delivered the coup de grace.

Meanwhile, Prince Eugene and Prince Albert closed in for a pincer on the AF2. Fortunately for the AF2, the 2nd NebB stalled both GSDs and managed to deliver debilitating blows to Eugene. In that exchange of blows, Prince Eugene's engines were critically damaged and damage control failed to contain and control the damage.

With bad engines, Eugene continued to lurch on with the rest of Taffy 27 but the damage took a fatal turn. Prince Eugene blew up. Despite loosing the flagship, Taffy 27 continued to close in to the AF2. Prince Rupert and Prince Albert poured murderous fire onto the AF2 but she managed to weather all attacks. Shortly after, Prince Albert blew up after taking 2 salvoes from the AF2. Just prior to that melee, Teruzuki managed to pull up astern of the AF2 but her attacks were ineffective. Teruzuki was soon taken out by the AF2's stern guns.

Now with just Akizuki and Prince Rupert left, both CR90 closed the range and launched attacks. The attacks proved to be ineffective except for Doodana's Pride which caused a fire on Prince Rupert.

Seeing that it was useless to carry on, Prince Rupert's captain assumed command and ordered a general withdrawal for Taffy 27.

So there you have it folks, battle report from this evening's game. It was the first game I had at the local game store and I must say, 27th Fleet needs to re-examine their engagement doctorine and deployment. For the entire battle, Howl's Fighter Wing did nothing. ABSOLUTE NOTHING!

If the Card says Spend, then you follow the Usual Procedure - IE, a Green (Readied) token becomes Red (Exhausted), or a Red (Exhausted) one is discarded...

If the card says Discard, then it does not matter wether the token is Green (Readied) or Red (Exhausted), it is simply thrown away with reckless abandon.

arrest7 reacted to Truthiness in Let's Make Cards for TFA Characters! (SPOILER WARNING)
I think new models won't happen. They just wouldn't be distinguishable enough. However, I can see new cards being an option, perhaps included in a Force Awakens starter set. All you would need to make it happen is a rule that you can only have one type of X-Wing or TIE fighter in a given list. Here's how I would make them:
    T-70 X-Wing
    Hull: 5
    Speed: 4
    Anti-Squadron: 4 blue
    Battery: 1 black
    Escort, Bomber
    Points: 15
The official description of the T-70 makes specific mention of upgraded speed, but little else. I think most would agree the X-Wing needs a battery upgrade in general. Upgrading the T-70 would be the perfect excuse and be in keeping with what we saw from the fighters in the movie. This price and profile also helps to keep the other Rebel fighters employed. A-Wings are still faster, cheaper, and bring counter. The B-Wing remains the undisputed bomber champion. Y-Wings may have the same bomber capability, but come in at 1/3 cheaper. Finally, the regular X-Wing remains the cheapest available escort and is just as good in a squadron fight once engaged.
    TIE/FO
    Hull: 4
    Speed: 4
    Anti-Squadron: 2 blue, 1 black
    Battery: 1 blue
    Swarm
    Points: 10
The TIE/FO's official description is a little more vague than the T-70. All it really says is the First Order brought them up to "modern standards." Luckily, that description specifically includes the addition of shields, so adding a hull point makes sense. The weapons seemed more powerful, but not significantly so. The substitution of a black die for one of the blue anti-squad dice seemed appropriate.
As for Poe (seriously this time), I would rather he not have Rogue. For one, I don't think it's necessary to reflect his abilities. Two, I don't want rogue to be all that common. I think there are a number of proposals for Leia that better replicate how those fighters operated as a whole (my personal favorite is giving five squadrons the ability to activate at the start of the ship phase). What we saw was a guy that could not be touched in a dogfight, absolutely shredded his opponents, and made everyone around him better. I prefer to concentrate entirely on his dogfighting capabilities. Plus, a dedicated dogfighter that helps those nearby is something the Rebels lack. Wedge is OK, but he only helps himself. I want some synergy **** it. Here's my take:
    Poe Dameron
    Hull: 5
    Speed: 4
    Anti-Squadron: 2 black, 2 blue
    Battery: 1 black
    Escort, Bomber
    Points: 26
    Brace, Scatter
Ability: Enemy squadrons within distance 1 may not spend defense tokens
I costed him at 1 point per black anti-squadron die, 1 point for the brace, 2 points for the Scatter, and 6 points for the ability. Against normal squadrons, he's overpriced since his ability does nothing. Against Aces, he's pure evil. Seems like a good niche to me.

I like basically all of this, except the four black anti-squadron. Don't get me wrong, I love a chance for increased damage (and black dice just feel appropo), but the inability to get any accuracy results to lock down a Scatter feels... sad somehow. Unfortunately, all the solutions I can come up with (free accuracy result, crits count as damage, reroll dice while engaged) are all used already (Bossk, Vader, Dash), so non-starters. Although I suppose if he's activated with Flight Controllers, that'd be a blue die, right?

I love, love, love Brace + Scatter. It just feels so right. Black-Black anti-ship I could live without (Blue-Black seems fine with me), as I'm not paying 30 points for a squadron... probably.  Dropping the Black-Black to Blue-Black at least sort of puts him in Boba's territory of 26 (less hull, gains Escort, Scatter, and upgrades blue anti-squadron to black), though I think I agree with Dras, four dice upgrades + Scatter is probably worth 5-6 points more than Boba (depending on how much value you put on Boba's extra hull point).

Someone needs this ability. Well, ok, maybe not "needs," but I really want someone to have this ability. Either a unique Ace, or upgrade cards for unique Aces or something.

I'm tempted to say that if only the Rebs got it there'd be a game imbalance issue. Except that the Imps already have way more Rogues than the Rebels do (all unique R&Vs except Dengar, plus generic Aggressors, Firesprays, and YV-666, vs. Han, Dash, and YT-2400s). So maybe not.

Maybe a Jan Ors-esque ability to "pass" Rogue to another non-unique squadron when he activates? I could see that being cool without being game breaking.
Every time you use his ability though, you have to say "Head straight at them! Don't let these thugs intimidate you!"

Nothing less is acceptable for hands down the best pilot we've seen in a Star Wars film to date.

arrest7 reacted to clontroper5 in Would love some help understanding Initiative bids
The bids importance varies from list to list and play style.
    A few key points though
    Black dice want 1st player
    Red dice want 2nd player
    Small ships want 1st player
    Larger ships want 2nd player
Squads want 1st but have the most powerful objectives and help mitigate any 2nd player disadvantage
1st player picks objective so if an opponents objective is weak, it can easily be turned against the 2nd player (for example fighter builds tend to have a poor yellow objective which can be caused problems)
I usually bid 4-6 points just in case (even if I don't care picking is always good)
If I want to go 1st I go as high as 10-11 points
If I want to go 2nd I max out my list at 400
