    Is it worth starting Armada?

    It's an awesome game as long as you have someone to play with. And with the excellent balance in the ships, there are so many different fleets to build, you can play for years even if there are no new releases.
  3. It's hard to argue that playing without the correct model is okay. I recently played a friend in a CC match. He didn't use any of his squadron models in a squadron-heavy Rebels aces list. It was a significant disadvantage for me, and I (a mild-mannered player just trying have fun playing with plastic spaceships and dice) verbally grumbled about it a few times. The visual cues of the actual models are very important in this game, especially to your opponent. In this case, one model/one squadron is probably okay. But beyond that, especially at a top-tier tournament like a Regional, no way.

    Issues with the Corellian Conflict

    In a recent campaign I was in, to prevent one side from getting a lopsided advantage, we ruled that you had to pay 3 RPs for 2 points of upgrades (but repairs and unscarring were normal) during the first two rounds. Honestly, it still led to the winning sides' fleets powering up too fast. Maybe 2 RPs for each 1 point of upgrade to the fleet would work better.

    Play space at home?

    Mine fits on my dining room table. But for marital harmony, like others, I bought a 4x8' plywood board from a hardware store and stapled some felt to it. It works great.

    If the squadron ends its move engaged, it can still use Strategic.

    Is Armada dead? (Serious question)

    The game itself is as healthy and well-balanced as it has ever been. FFG has done a great job balancing the list building options and archetypes, keeping most viable without any of the balance problems X-Wing had.
  11. The game is almost perfectly balanced right now. Why do people need new content to continue enjoying it?

    Raider thoughts

    Raiders can be excellent when built to a certain role, and flown well in that role. And one of two things will usually happen to the Raider by turn 5--it'll either be gone, hopefully a worthwhile sacrifice to the glory of the Emperor, or it will be disengaging at speed 3 or 4 from the battlefield with at least one arc of shields gone and a couple of damage cards. They go POOF easily if they are not flown well. But they can punch well above their weight if flown well. In other words, it's a rewarding ship when you are able to use it well.

  14. Armada is in a great place as a game. Almost any ship or type of fleet can be competitive. FFG has worked out to balance out the squadrons and bring the big, sexy, awesome ships back to the fore with the latest wave and FAQ. But I'm still concerned that FFG is going to abandon Armada to X-Wing and their new favorite child, Legion.
