My sentiments exactly when I first tried the LTP  hence during demos with kids and even first timers I recommended letting them play the victory and just feed them the rabble ships so that they get a feel good win haha. Funnily enough the Vic is strongest in this scenario but gets outclassed quickly compared to the Cr90 and Neb when upgrades and the full game come into play.
Like others mentioned, focus on popping the ties and avoiding the Vic, the total damage to kill it is usually more than the Cr90 and Neb can output by round 6. If you are playing the other LTP scenario with Luke and Howlrunner, then there's some chance to down the Vic with some lucky structural damage or other crits.

And uh, whoa. Wow. I did the first-time setup/training match as Rebels- got my exhaust port torn to shreds by my little brother (TIEs, really good shields against X-Wings who want to attack a Victory.) and just.

    Wow this game is GOOD.

    Just, whoa.

My investment in my Rebel expansions will truly be worthwhile.

After playing with it and against it, I don't like the single-ship SSD lists built for all-out offense. I went back to the drawing board and made some SSD lists built for fighter swarms, two-ship-defensive, and 3-ship activation/"cover your ****."
It's tanky as all **** with its hull and redundant tokens, good out of the front, three officer slots, dial+token every reveal (Don't be dumb and forget this - cost me a crippled ship and 150+ points missing two repair tokens) and the titles each play very differently.
But it's also slow, prone to landing on obstacles, easy to flank / stay out of medium, and frankly her side arcs are just not that good at long range.
It good to remember some Armada wisdom: Don't try to make weaknesses on a ship better, try to enhance strengths the ship already has.
    Lessons I've learned:
Dial up some Nav commands, or you may regret the course you've chosen.
Zero of my previous lists ever used her amazing 5 Squadron value...should fix that, but is list dependent.
You're going to take a lot of fire and you're almost guaranteed to be near (if not on an obstacle) so Brunson will save 1-2 damage per round.
    Have you considered Officer Palpatine?
Do you really need the Assault version? Those 30 points can buy you an activation or Mareek + a TIE Bomber for 2blue/1black
Piett is so, so, so good for your SSD. He didn't avoid getting choked out for nothing you know.
Overall it's pretty exciting because it makes me think differently about how to list-build with something worth so many points and make it effective.

So, people have been clamoring for the SSD since this game released.
Since the very first request for an SSD, I have been saying that I thought it was just too big to fit in the game and it would either look off or be prohibitively expensive.  I think my words were along the lines of “even with the sliding scale it will look too small.”
When it was announced I still maintained my cautious stance of, “I don’t think it will work.”
Throughout this entire time I have had a caveat, that I had faith in FFG and if they could pull it off, I would retract all of my previous statements.
I finally got my SSD yesterday, and I officially retract all of my previous statements.  This thing is gorgeous.  Sure, it’s not in perfect scale, but it’s big enough to dwarf everything else on the table, and you can easily ignore the fact that it isn’t scaled perfectly (what in Armada is, after all) or imagine that it’s a tactical overlay on a holo-table or something, rather than a perfect representation of all the ships.
I was wrong, the ship is amazing, and FFG pulled it off.

I like them, but would be super careful and maybe add restrictions...
Otherwise you could get an ISD-1/2  or SSD with ExHB or SSD tossing 5-7 additional die from their activated bombers before they shoot from their hull zones, with a damage potential thats very high - at the top end of Proton Bombs you could score 14 damage before you even shoot, and I'm sure some of those crits will turn up a Structural Damage.
Also Ions would make Sloane OP with 9pt TIE Bombers rolling Blue/Black with a reroll from BCC to do a great chance of 2-3 damage.
I think it opens up some interesting options for B-Wings, but Id still like to see things like
"Unique non-ace squadrons you activate..." so it affects guys like Dagger, Gamma, Tempest, Green, Gold, Rouge...the guys who would be carrying special armament anyway, thematically speaking.
Or maybe add in language like Squall..."up to half of your squadron value, ...squadrons with Bomber...etc wtc."
Also you could do "Small ship only" so things like HHt and Raiders could be an option...their squad values are pretty low to begin with.
Then you could make it cheaper too since those upgrades only affect a limited amount of squads.

It legal.  But rather than ET, look into Adding Fighter Coordination team so you can be dragging Kanan along with you, to potentially slap 3 raids on a bad guy with a lucky roll.

did this today for a few games. Arq is surprisingly powerful. I like this one the most. I’ve done a few others. SSD needs long range support.  Anything that gets close just dies too quickly.

eliteone reacted to Mad Cat in New player. Are MC80's any good??
As a carrier I like:   MC80C, ECM, FCTs, Boosted Comms, Adar Tallon.
Depending on points, optional upgrades include: QBTs, Defiance, Leading Shots.
It is a tough ship able to reach out far with the Boosted Comms keeping fighters active. FCTs can shuffle slow squads along nicely on turns 1 and 2 and are surprisingly useful on occasion late in the game. Yavarris can now benefit from these shuffled squadrons and Adar Tallon can do a similar tripple tap action with your most punchy squadron. Getting Dash Rendar to move speed 4 + speed 1 + speed 4 and bomb a fleeing damaged ship with a rerolling black bomber dice has got me several kills.
For a Combat ship I like:   MC80A, ECM, (Advanced Projectors or RBDs or EWS), QBTs, Leading Shots. In a non Ackbar list add Defiance. Engine Techs are good if you have the points but some lists can do without them using this ship as a central fire base.

All good observations, I think. I brought 5 squads with Rapid Launch Bays. My plan was to use them as point defense when opposing ships got around my flank. 5 squads add quite a punch to the rear and auxiliary arcs. My squad group was Mareek, Ciena, and 3 TIE Bombers. Pain was inflicted on flankers!

It's not like it's got a boring name like an MC30c Torpedo Frigate, or Assault Frigate Mk II B, or Imperial-class II Star Destroyer.
Starhawk is pretty short on its own - only way to make it shorter is to go down to one syllable; but hawk is already taken.

I ran 5 games this weekend, 4 with my SSD one against my SSD. I would say the fun of the SSD come from are you first player or not. Every game I was first with the SSD I would often get an overload pulse off on one or two ships and then queue up The Senate laughing as my friend would have to dump tokens to shoot his MC75 and 80h into my sides and rear. Honestly its the only ship I want to run at the moment, its that fun

All in all we determined that you can't go head to head with the SSD so the SSD should always being blockade run, contested outpost and solar carona incase it ends up second player.
