Daht replied to thanosazlin's topic in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions
Can you double tap Quads if you use veteran gunners? get an acc, add a die with acc, reroll all die, get another acc, add another acc.. -

I think that most of the special crits damage/effects happens separate from the regular damage phase, so I would think xx-9 and standard crit effects would stack with those, but not specifically flip "bonus" damage cards.. xx-9 and standard would *technically* stack, but as both affect the first card, you would not flip 3.. BUT... if the first card flipped is "do something immediately then flip this card back over", it might double-tap. G-8 has been talked to death, but logically and consistant to general rulings by ffg should work on engine techs. -
It will be glorious with the new Interdictors that can combine those, the gr-8, tractor beam, Titus, and Konstantine to really mess with opponent's navigation.

Probably wave 6,and possibly something in the interim

=THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL= ROUND ONE... FIGHT!!!
Daht replied to doobleg's topic in Star Wars: Armada
the problem is *YOU* agreed that it was a ram... "Lyraeus> - I think I will overlap. . . <Lyraeus> - or not. . . I was worried about that rock <gowtah> - I'd say you do overlap yav though <Lyraeus> - side arc for DAYS! <Lyraeus> - NOOO we nick! <Lyraeus> - darn. . . " there is absolutely nothing that can be debated now because YOU agreed with him, if you hadn't (which you were perfectly in your rights to do) and had brought a 3rd party in to rule on it or simply rolled for it, you *Might* have grounds to stand on as it is now you are simply Contradicting yourself... You are missing the point. Yes I agree ld that it was a ram because I don't have the experience with Vassal you do or many others. There is also no way to be sure that it was a ram. I am still new to Vassal so i have to take this on faith till I get the experience to know otherwise. So it's not a question of whether or not it was my fault. I want to know if it was or was not a ram. This way I can learn for what to look for. I don't have these issues on a table. I don't have them because I can hover the tool and get a much more accurate representation of where my ship will be. You can't do that in Vassal. I was watching the game live, I magnified the situation (albeit not to maximum because it looked clear enough), for me the bump was evident. I didnt review, sorry if I hurt feelings, was my objective view then. I saw the bump also, and it was *just* touching which could be argued a touch and not an overlap under the (IMO stupid) current ramming rules. With Vassal that rule literally means are the outmost pixels next to each other or is a single pixel overlapping.. which was about the case. For Vassal IMO it's just a ram, but that is a little different than tabletop. It's not a problem, just a minor difference to get used to. -

I think Vip had a similar frustration as you Lyr in miscalculating moves slightly due to the perspective difference from vassal and tabletop. I did too once but in my case it didn't have any real effect, (rock hit on a ship that didn't take any real fire).. we both had at a case where our top dial wasn't what we set it too (both times we allowed the change, it was turn 1 for me and on a 1 stack ship for him). I will say I am up to play others some as it is fun, but a big timesink and my availability is somewhat limited for this kind of game too often. Looking forward to round 2. I know the frustration of not having practice also.. I just got smoked in a big Blood Bowl tourney before I played Vip, and I have barely played that game in months. Mostly due to Armada -
I don't know how to post them, but my game was pretty straight forward.. ISD's charge mc30s and they blow up. Lost my non-admiral ISD and finished off his objective mc30 (most wanted) with a long range concentrated fire shot from demolisher. Then the rest of the fleet (vettes and flotillas) ran and we called it on turn 5 when it was obvious nothing else was gonna die.

Devastator, Tagge, and The Meaning of "Discarded"
Daht replied to Ardaedhel's topic in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions
Devastator card text is pretty clear. "each of your discarded defense tokens" is talking about the token, not an action. "each token you discarded" could be interpreted either way. Tagge also specifically states you recover one of your discarded defense tokens, not replace.. so it's not a "new" token being added to the pool, it's the token that was in a discarded status recovering to ready status. Your argument would mean if I exhaust my defense token, then refresh it, I would still lose it when I used it next, because even tho I have since refreshed the token, I still had taken the action of exhausting it earlier. A token is ready, exhausted, or discarded.. -
What is the accepted norm for setting up command dials in a 2 player game, using the 'stack' format, and when you peek at your own (without 'revealing') is it hidden from the opponent? Or do you use 1-3 self-standing dials? Everything else looks like it's handled on the ship "model" at this point, would just need the dials and list of cards for the fleet in the off-mat area... do you run with the on-ship tokens or keep those freestanding?

Buying is NOT allowed, trade is good though. My bad... have Ackbar, Han, mc80, other AA to trade

=THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL= GRUDGE MATCH! BABY, GRUUUDGE MATCH
Daht replied to doobleg's topic in Star Wars: Armada
I challenge Viperous #25 because we can both be kind to each other on Vassal newness, and squadrons are for wussies. -
Another consideration.. there is your end, and his end.. if one guy says this to you, talk to a few other players and ask if you push the envelope at times. It could be as much his sensitivity as your conduct just overlapping gray areas. In that case, work on improving your relationship with the one guy as you can, and stay mindful of your conduct at times, but don't beat yourself up if it's just one or two guys being sensitive.
-
I also am looking to buy or trade for Vader. Have Ackbar and other AA to trade, some acrylics.

Xwing and squad combat in this game are so very different that it's just not a valid comparison. Of course noone is forcing you to take squadrons. Lyareus has several Dodonna builds that don't use them that he has found success with. It's all about having a plan for dealing with the squadron based lists. Wave 3 no squadron lists are 100% unusable. You won't even make it to turn 4. Anyone who hasn't played Wave 3 yet: This is tame. 8 YT2400S is just. Not That. Good. Compared to builds I am seeing in Wave 3 now that I have a few. The game is basically now X-Wings And Friends the home game. And when you have nothing but squadrons, Imperials simply don't have enough meat on their anti-fighter squadrons to cut it. I cometh due to refrence! I don't know, 8x YT2400's is **** scary, you don't want to pick superior positions from their list if they go second and with the TRC's, most wanted is scary, hmmmm I don't know about tame but they do work well in all roles. As for Imperials, maybe you haven't met Mithel. He was used in his game but was mitigated due to the sheer number of YT2400's. Normally he would be able to jump in cause a ton of damage and let the TIE Advanced soak things up. Then we have Aggressors, those 's are pure evil! They are the YT2400's of the Imperials and are rather annoying. They could of helped a lot here actually. In wave 3 you have Jamming Fields which will mitigate many opponents squadrons. It will be interesting. Oh, as for "X-Wing and Friends the Home Game" let's wait till he Vassal tournament before we cry wolf eh? I may have my foot shoved down my throat but W3 DtO is going to be in it so we shall see what happens. I will say that Flotillas will be annoying to deal with. My vassal list will definitely challenge this xwing and friends squadron heavy meta. Whether it's successful or not, we'll see
