Days Since We Last Had To Make Up Rules As We Went Along: 0
Daht replied to Ardaedhel's topic in Star Wars: Armada
While reference points may differ, it's debatable if we are in a 'poor economy'. Most of FFG's market will be in the United States, and while public perceptions of the economy might underrate what the economy is really like (not that bad in the United States) consumer confidence is better than average. FFG is clearly a growing company, and it appears to be eating GW's lunch in the process. I think your assessment of FFG trying to do too much in a shrinking consumer market is in error. They're a growing company in a growing market. I live in Las Vegas, we have high employment few jobs and rising cost. The casinos have dropped most of their employees to part-time or on call. my roommate lost his job of 14 years because of lack of work. Nevada has gotten rid of unemployment renewal because of the high volume. and I have heard the same things from my friends in Texas, New York, and California so I don't seen this good economy you speak of. as for consumer confidence in the latest poll "Oct 7" when asked "Do you think the nation's economy is getting better or getting worse" totals were worst 52%, better 37% I don't doubt the validity of your particular anecdotes, or what you are seeing locally in Las Vegas. Nevada is also tied at 48th with Louisiana in terms of low unemployment. Texas, New York, and California are also at the bottom half of the list (though, they do account for large populations, as compared to, say, North Dakota). I am also underemployed, so - for me - my personal economy is not all that great. But even those Regarding your poll, I don't doubt that either. But there's a disconnect between how people feel they feel, and how they actually perform as consumers. I'd also say that there's a pessimistic bias in this regard - people's perceptions are indeed negative. If they were actually familiar with the trendlines, they might be a bit more positive. There's also long term vs. short term. Yes, this last year consumer confidence has been a bit down as compared to a year ago, but if you look at it since the recession, or even in a 60-year span, we're doing better than average. But, even within that macro-view, from FFG's perspective it's about market share. On the whole, tabletop gaming seems to be a growing industry, and FFG's market share within that industry seems to be growing. (By the way, a friend of mine and I are playing around with the idea of going to the Regionals in Las Vegas. If so, I hope to see you there.) If I don't have school work to deal with I will try to attend that will be the last semester of my sophomore year and I have a lot to do before I start my junior year so we will see. Its also at Little shop of magic which is across town so that could be an issue. Vegas economy got hit the worst in the big recession and while it's picked up from there, it's never gotten back to where it was before. We are a city whose primary industry is tourism. I will definitely be at Vegas (another local), and debating making the drive to Phoenix. -

The cards say things with words? I was just going by the pictures! -
You will fit right in, down in Africa, the way you hijacked my thread. No article this week may cast some doubt on whether or not the armada universe revolves around me or not.

Flying home tomorrow, thanks FFG!
-
Bend was nice. The clearance stuff is definitely store by store basis
-
Heading south to cali, not making it up to Portland. I had checked the distance but didn't have the leeway on time for it.
-
Nice thing about small towns like Bend, OR is their Barnes and nobles have all the armada product on clearance! (Xwing too, so it's not a sign armada is dying) Got a spare raider, r&v pack, and my30 for 50% retail, plus a playmat. Might have got more but it needs to fit in my carry-on when I fly home

"Game is great but why break their own rules"
Daht replied to BrobaFett's topic in Star Wars: Armada
It doesn't matter how good or experienced a wargamer is, or whether he wins or loses... it's always best with armada (and xwing) to play the first game with naked ships. The basic explanation is, learn the rules, and understand every upgrade card is a new rule. Being frustrated by a deluge of new card rules when you are just learning the rules in the rulebook is far worse than frustration learning the rules included in the rulebook. -
I am on vacation until October 5th, and my phone kind of sucks to navigate the web, and I plan to be pretty busy, so it would be great if you held off anything new until I get back. Thanks, Daht

Nominations and Votes for Unofficial FAQ Committee and Size
Daht replied to Tirion's topic in Star Wars: Armada
I nominate the enitre IFF crew, member limit should be the IFF crew, and we should have weekly podcasts that include unofficial FAQ business. I also nominate the guy above me on the thread to head the committee to helm the distribution of information and handling of questions regarding the operations and rules of the unofficial FAQ committee. -
I would say Leading shots, Quad Laser Turrets, Agent Kallus. PDR is as bad in Wave4 as it was bad in Wave2 (I tried it and it just doesn't give enough damage bump for the points). Leading shots, Quad Laser Turrets, Agent Kallus and PDR was worse in wave 2 since you were cheating

There's still time for the afternoon article. I feel like I've seen articles drop between 11:30 and 12 PST. This is occasionally correct. Daht Sorry, was drooling over the Rancor spoiler for IA. I give FFG a pass for today, and with the weekend off, I shall bemoan some more on Monday, then Tues I'm on vacation so will be barely online for a week. The community may pass the idle time taking bets as to whether an Armada article will appear before I get back home.

preliminary discussion for the creation of an unofficial FAQ committee
Daht replied to Tirion's topic in Star Wars: Armada
I look forward to internet arguments regarding the details of creation of the committee to settle internet arguments almost as much as I do the internet arguments about arguing the decisions of the committee to settle internet arguments when the committee to settle internet arguments presents their decision regarding the latest internet argument. -
The other night I kept an opponent's gladiator alive by not CF on it so it would be an obstruction for his ISD to shoot my objective flotilla, since he only had all-blacks to shoot at the flotilla with the gladiator. The ISD had gunnery teams and blew up my glad that spared his glad and also still killed my flotilla, then rammed his own glad and killed it.

The 100% squadrons win vs no squadrons would be true if games weren't limited to 6 rounds, no objective points, and (mostly) that the rules didn't say you table your opponent for 400pts if you take out his ships.
