  1. I would clarify, they must buy ships (plural) before squadrons.. no more than 1:1 ratio ..  if flotillas are allowed, no more than 1 total.

If the gap is too small to buy even a flotilla (18 or 23) you can play normally.. if no flotillas allowed, and you cannot afford a capital ship, allow 2 squads maximum.

So say we have a 60 point gap, you cannot buy a gr-75  with 3 xwings and an a wing.

you could do 39pt cr90b, and 1 xwing for 52  or some other fighter/flotilla at 21 points or less.   there will still be some lost points but it encourages buying the biggest ship you can rather than the cheapest ship and as many fighters as possible.

  2. In that match it was also 1000pts of ships cramming into a standard deployment zone (in AOA the deployment zone is the entire edge).. so 2 g7's did take up 2/3.. making the list have to burn 2 navs over 2 turns to get moving speed 2,  while a bunch of ISD's are barreling towards them.

  3. I don't see a specific problem with flotillas, but spam in general to abuse a certain mechanic at times (see ramstrosity or 8+ gozanti)... hard to regulate that tho, it's a legal build.   Given the changes in X-wing, having a flotilla limit (say 2 or 3), and/or no more lifeboats... and making ET exhaust when overlapping a ship are things we could hope for to cover that.

  4. The campaign is designed to be simple and focus more on the Armada games than a meta game.  We are tweaking with it on our next run, which is a major plus to enclosed campaigns with friends vs open competitive tourneys. (there are pros to both sides, I'm not knocking tourneys and am going to worlds myself, but it is nice to not worry about FAQ rulings and such)

Nope. Not in the text. Looks at ALL damage cards first. then flip x cards over.

(And number 5 in my post is relevant as this is the only scenario I can think of that calls for using expanded hangar bay to help boarding parties)

You can look at my facedown damage cards without touching them, facedown there on the table ;)

With that front arc, I really couldn't care less for my anti-squadron fire.

I agree, whatever the final cost is, I expect the red version to be near 10pts over the blue, just on that giant red AA arc

I'm surprised that this is being floated as a reasonable option. I can't see the light carrier coming in at any less than 50, and probably not less than 55. The red AA dice variant is likely to hit 60. Compare to the Arq or the AF2, or even to the cr90 - there's at least 20 points of improvement over that chassis (+3 squadron alone!)

AF2 is another Med ship with 3 squad and much much stronger combat abilities..   I think the red model will be 50ish,  blue just over 40.    30 is too low, but 60 naked for what little it has outside of squads...    this is also dependant on it's max speed, manueverablility, and full upgrade bar..  I expect it to be likely 2 speed and victory-ish steering.

I've actually only seen accounts of one, maybe two, who really wanted to go but couldn't because it sold out, so far.

My only real complaint is, they dropped in the middle of the work day in the US, and the middle of the night in Australia. I feel like they should do these kinds of ostensibly-international releases with staggered approaches, e.g., at 0200Z, 1000Z, and 1800Z, to give everyone a reasonable shot at them.

I made it in simply because it was lucky enough to be on my rolling day off.

    I'm in!

Alas my partner from the double tournament last year didn't get in so ...  anyone interested?

In the off-chance I don't place top 4 I will be looking for a double partner.

Key Inn? I opted for that last year and regretted it. The place is rough and I had to switch rooms 3 times for various scary reasons. Had I gone this year I would have gladly paid the extra for Radisson.

Motel six baby!  Splitting it with my IA buddy less than 150 for the week :)  It's a block south of FFG

I absolutely agree that every group is free to make any house rules they want if their players disagree or dislike the way the rules are written or interpreted.

That said, on this particular point of who is resolving the effect, there just isn't any room for ambiguity at all. As I pointed out on page 1, the card says "you" may change the target's speed. "You" always refers to the ship to which the upgrade card is equipped, so it is definitely Konstantine's flagship that resolves the effect.

Again, not saying anyone is wrong for house-ruling anything at all that they want to at their table. I have house rules myself that I like for CC that are definitely not supported in the rules. I only point this out for the benefit of anyone lurking here trying to find the RAW answer.

But you quoted yourself the CC rules say :  Ships and Squadrons from a player's fleet count ships and squadrons from other players' fleets on the same team as friendly, with one exception: a commander's "friendly" effect can only be RESOLVED by ships and squadrons of the players fleet

So if "you" always refers to the ship which the upgrade card is equipped, it is *definitely* konstantine's flagship that resolves the effect every time... It's not Vader's star destroyers resolving the effect, it's Vader's friendly star destroyers allowing Konstantine to resolve his own effect.

Similarly any of Sato's ships can trigger when any friendly squadrons from any fleets are distance 1, as it's the Sato-fleet ship resolving the effect.

  12. Wait, I thought squadrons were not ships, and rules that specify ships do not include squadrons.... so if the new snipe rule throws that out,  how does that now affect Ackbar or sw-7s?   How does that affect bomber?

Snipe and squadron engagement rules seem pretty clear as written.. this isn't a ruling on ambiguous wording, it's a question that was asked by someone who did not follow RAW, resulting in an unofficial response that completely reversed the RAW.

I would say until it's errata'd or FAQ'ed snipe can shoot a target at range 2 unless engaged by escort... unofficial email ruling that doesn't take into account it's breaking core basic terminology and rules should be suspect.
