Okay, so your attack kills the minion pilot, and the TIE crashes and is destroyed.

The house rule I use is this: "Any personal scale weapon that requires the use of the Gunnery skill to use applies successes in Vehicle scale against vehicles, and Personal scale against individuals." This allows E-Webs, Missile Tubes, etc to deal significant damage against heavy targets without being bonkers against smaller ones, and it depends entirely upon the firer being competent in its use.

I would love to see an equipment/vehicle splat book. Something that would have stats for the U-Wings, TIE Strikers, the Republic-era A6 Juggernaut, the AT-ACTs, and a host of other new items.

Do you have anything on the U-Wing or cargo shuttle? It would be useful to have a Rebel shuttle that's not another stolen Lambda-class.

Bah, haven't been around much to say anything.  My desktop is on life-support somewhere and my laptop wishes it was. I have a stinking cold and my gaming group is having one of its bizarre periodic dramas.  So are some of the artists we work with.  Just when I thought 2016 couldn't possibly get any worse... it does.  It's been a horrible year and I wish it was over.  Then out of the blue comes this piece of art, which we'd ordered months ago.  I should get the players together to discuss a story for it but I'm just not up to it, so you'll have to do with Dire Straits lyrics instead for now.

    "Through these fields of destruction...
    Baptisms of fire...
    I've witnessed your suffering
    As the battles raged higher...
And though it did hurt me so bad
In the fear and the alarm...
You did not desert me, my brothers in arms..."

I think we'll move towards less fan-service next year, assuming we manage to keep it going.  Not sure what this one says, really. That some days life is sweethearts and balloons and melting toffee-apples, and other days you're bleeding from the eyeballs in the smog of a battlefield? Anyway, the characters are Aleyna and Tallisibeth. I like the details on this one. It's nice that sometimes Aley has to lean on Llis instead of the other way around. Nice detailing on her Theed Arms Security S-5 too.

(My friends went to see Rogue One today; I wasn't up to it, emotionally or physically. One said 'you'll hate it', another said it was a bit more MarcyVerse than TFA, so I might like it a bit. Guess I'll see after Xmas. Marcy)

I like this idea!  Here's an idea to add:

At the beginning, your base crew is just the PCs and a few administrative NPCs/minion-level guards.  Then, you're sent on recruiting missions to find people who can help you out.  You get a bunch of dossiers at once, and your PCs can tackle them however and whenever they want.  Some ideas for recruitable NPCs:

A mercenary who's posed interest in joining the alliance with his crew, but has been trapped on a planet by a crime syndicate, who's calling in a substantial debt owed.  Do you go in guns blazing and take out the syndicate, or help the mercenary repay his debt?

A strong and intelligent leader has incited rebellion on a small farming colony, but the Imperials showed up to break it up.  How will you break through the blockade and rescue this leader and the colonists?

A rogue Imperial official that has been feeding information to rebel spies has suddenly stopped contact.  Land on the planet and find out where they went, and see if you can bring some of the contact's network along.

Imperial forces have lost control of a prison station near the fringe to a large-scale riot that saw local forces captured or killed.  Many of those captured were rebel sympathizers, but the rest are hardened criminals that refuse to have anything to do with the war.  Can you rescue the rebels and return them to the Alliance, and can you convince the criminals to join the war on your side?

Each of these presents an opportunity to not only gain more personnel for your base, but also lets you recruit capable NPCs to act as your secondary task forces.  Doing these missions also cements your place in the Alliance as a whole; you start off as little more than a scouting force, but you quickly become something akin to a Special Forces team.

Just because the players aren't Inquisitors doesn't mean that they don't have autonomy.  They get given a mission.  It's up to them how they solve it.

The project though still remains kind of untenable.  I mean I do a lot logistics to support my games.  I have enough trouble holding together small groups that show up every week.  Basically, a team of refs would have to present a very well written and well supported set of ideas to peak any interest from me.

Perhaps it depends on the person, then? I still consider it an infection rather than impregnation (from a human sexual PoV), but I guess if someone more sensible to the subject wanted to interpret it that way, I suppose I can see how it's about "homosexual oral ****".

I have to admit, I would find it delightfully funny if GW were ever to do away with this aspect of the Genestealers because they're afraid their predominantly male clientele would be too grossed out by the idea, even though GW Genestealers don't even put "it" inside someone's mouth.

Assuming you're referring to the r-word ... technically, it's not. Everyone involved is no longer themselves, their minds altered in a way that the participants do this willingly and in full capacity of their newfound cult identity. One could argue the person they once were is already dead, replaced by a hive creature in human guise.

Besides, it's not like this would actually have to be spelled out explicitly just to have Genestealer cults exist. Nobody really knows where Cherubim or Krieg Guardsmen come from either, for example.

That being said, I'm fairly certain that all this talk about GW abandoning Genestealer Cults is just the usual urban rumours from the community.

"Genestealers reproduce by implanting other life forms with their own genetic material. Once infected, a victim is enthralled by the Genestealers’ nascent telepathy and Tyranid attributes are passed on to its offspring, creating monstrous hybrids completely under the alien’s domination. These deformities eventually breed true, creating ‘purestrain’ Genestealers under the control of a Broodlord – the strongest and most dangerous of their kind." -- 6E Codex: Tyranids   "225991.M41: The planet of Ichar IV erupts into rebellion as a faction known as the Brotherhood overthrows the planetary governor. Soon after the fighting breaks out, Inquisitor Agmar, despatched from the Inquisitional fortress on Talasa Prime, leads his battle forces into the planetary capital of Lomas and discovers that at its heart, the rebellion is harbouring a massive Genestealer infestation." -- 6E Codex: Tyranids   Granted, they don't specifically spell out Genestealer Cults, but if it walks like a duck, etc...   Very, very rarely has GW actually "erased" anything from the background. Sometimes, stuff stops being mentioned for a while, but even then you can often find allusions to it, possibly specifically meant for people who remember the older stuff. Examples being the use of Battle Sisters to hunt down rogue Marine Chapters as well as Squats appearing in the list of sanctioned Imperial Abhumans, both harking back to elements of the original Rogue Trader tabletop.

There's even a little snippet in Enemies Without that mentions Genestealer Cults, so at least FFG remembers them.

One thing that might work would be having the whole setting run by 3-5 GMs working in tandem; running their own individual games and taking place on different planets (or different sectors of the same planet), but communicating with each other and having things slowly come together and have a crazy climax.

It'd take some work to get it running properly from a logistical standpoint, but it would be cool.  Each GM has an NPC inquisitor leading the party, which allows you to share information back and forth by way of these characters communicating with each other IC as well.

    Adding diversity ?

It seems more that it would reduce it. Take a bolt pistol for example. Players are going to run up against foes where las/SP weapons are ineffective. So they want stronger weapons. Which means that they are going to push up strength in order to wield the weapons they want to use. So you lose the low strength characters who want to carry bolt weapons.

Then there is the issue of making sense. I'm assuming the reason for the strength requirement on guns is recoil. An SP weapons bullet gets all its momentum from the gunpowder charge. It's killing power comes from its mass and the velocity it's doing when it hits the target. A bolt gets some of its momentum from the launch charge, more from the rocket motor in every single bolt. While its speed is important, its killing power also comes from the bolt exploding.
Thus bolt weapons are going to have less recoil than SP weapons, meaning a lower strength requirement. Plasma and melta weapons, possibly much less. None on las weapons, including heavy las weapons.

Is strength even the right characteristic ?
The strength/toughness differentiation seems to be that strength is used to physically affect things around the character, toughness to resist things affecting you. Recoil is something you'd want to resist, so toughness would be used to resist recoil.
Carrying capacity already takes care of "you must be this strong to carry this gun".

How do you justify agility requirements on chain weapons ?
In some systems I could see it as "you need to be this skilled to use this weapon". But agility doesn't represent skill with melee weapons in DH. Weapon skill does.
Maybe a strength requirement for lifting the melee weapon high enough to use it. But we already have carrying capacity.

On the plus side, a private living campaign with only 3-4 groups would at least be more open for actual interaction between the characters.

Imagine, the PCs writing letters to each other across parties! You could quickly build a bona-fide Inquisitorial cell just like it was portrayed in GW's d100 game.

And then you can have different PCs specialising in different things, each group being given different clues, and the player characters have to figure out by themselves how to combine them.

Possibly all the while following conflicting end goals depending on their Inquisitors.

Hell, you could even hire forumites here to act as empowered NPC contacts available as potential long range correspondence for player characters actively engaged in a campaign. The GM of the group would of course double-check any letters to make sure the NPC deals appropriately with any clues they were given to "hoard", but it could provide the players with a bit of RP even outside their normal gaming sessions.

Would it be possible to combine the Genestealers with the cult rules from Enemies Within? This would give you the option to tackle them as either a member of the Ordo Hereticus or the Ordo Xenos depending on your focus? There's certainly enough fluff out there to be able to fill in the gaps from anything that might be missing.

Then again I haven't laid my eyes on Enemies Without yet so feel free to say if that's a really stupid idea with how the creatures are set out in the book.

So I got Enemies Without today.  All in all, it's a pretty good supplement.

    What's Good:
Cool new character creation options, including Death World, Garden World and Research Station homeworlds; Imperial Navy, Heretek and Rogue Trader Fleet backgrounds; and the Ace role.
Xenos reinforcement characters definitely add to those playing radical acolytes/inquisitors
Cool alien weapons, including Dark Eldar, Eldar, Tau Ork, and "lost races".
More weapon mods in the form of the Jokaero
    New xenos to fight

    The Not So Good
Only two Tyranid creatures (Genestealer and a unique Lictor).
As mentioned earlier, not a whole lot in the way of new aircraft despite introducing an aircraft-focused role.

I haven't read a whole lot into the fluffy bits, but it seems to be a fairly detailed description of the major xenos races you'll be dealing with.  The new Explication rules are kinda neat too.  You get to do some dissecting!
