  1. I canceled our Friday night Edge of the Empire game due to the impending snowstorm. On the plus side, if I get snowed in, I can probably get the wife and kids to do some gaming.
  2. Sorta... I used its STAW stats as is, but it became Rebel Listening Post 9. Pics to follow...
  3. For today, some Star Trek Attack Wing, and then for the finale, the Galactic Empire will attack the Rebel Alliance's Listening Post 9. I'll let you know how it goes.
  4. For most games that I ran I try to follow along, but with Star Wars, I'm not really worried about canon. I won't go against what I've seen in the movies or shows (or my interpretation of what has been seen), but everything else is fair game.
  5. What about someone who has two lightsabers? For convenience's sake, I could easily see someone giving them names, if only something simple like "lefty" and "righty" or "lefty" and "shorty." Or a name based on overall color, such as "steel" or "black handle." Even though they might not seem like names, and might not be names as far as the owner is concerned (attachment... ), to the uninitiated masses they can become names. Objects that have characteristics can easily become named after those characteristics. The Porsche that I had in my youth had a tendency to backfire, hence it became Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. My wife and I each owned Ford Escapes at one point. Mine was yellow. Hers was red. When the kids asked which we were going to take someplace, at first it was "yellow" or "red", and eventually they became "Mustard" and "Ketchup." And what of someone like General Grievous? Did he call his lightsabers after the dead Jedi who once owned it? While I haven't given my Force FX lightsaber a name, I do think of it as "the Fisto."
  6. Thanks for the replies. It seems to me we are mostly in agreement, that if done, it is relatively rare. Looking around my room, I have a rather large collection of weapons - swords, pistols, flintlock muskets, blunderbusses, etc. - and of all of those, the only thing that I've pinned a name to is that plastic toy lightsaber.
  7. Since I've been playing Traveller for a long time, for my planetary systems I go with a variation on its Universal World Profiles. For each planet I jot down info on its starport type, world size, hydrographics, atmosphere, population, law level and tech level. I've considered doing icosahedral projection maps for the main planets, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. That being said, I'm a cartographer in real life, and I majored in geography in college, so knowing these things interest me, and help me build a better game.
  8. Do any of you name your lightsabers, your npcs' lightsabers, or your ancient lightsaber artifacts? I hadn't really thought about it until going to Disney and building my own. One of the two I built had a slightly quirky sound board, that gave it a very throaty rumble. I decided to name it "the Growler." It has since become part of my campaign, in the possession of an npc the players have yet to encounter.
  9. We very rarely play WWII, but I do have a few planes. And there is a company that makes a 1:200 P-38, if you want to go the unofficial route.
  10. Off the top of my head, since we see them do it in the films all the time, I'd say don't even bother with a roll. Or, if you want to roll, consider a fail as "this is harder than it looks, so it is going to take awhile longer." Again, off the top of my head. Without coffee.
  11. It has actually gotten much better. I first got into it just before FFG dropped it, and it was next to impossible to find minis. Now, it isn't so bad, though it is still next to impossible to find some of the Nexus planes, like the Nieuport 17s.
  12. Getting ready for this evening's game! Taking stock of my minis, it looks like I have most of the Silver Talon Syndicate to throw down on the table, should we get to that.
  13. Impressive! Most impressive! I'd really like to do that someday...
  14. And don't forget the Geonosian brain worms. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Brain_worm
  15. Recently, my campaigns have all been fairly short. We'll play a system for about six months, then hop to another system. Sometimes we'll come back to a system to re-visit characters we really enjoyed, such as with Fate, where we've had the same group of characters run through three different adventures, also with GURPS Infinite Worlds. I suspect we'll stick to Star Wars for another three or four months, maybe more. If so, that will about six months total. The longest campaign my group and I ever had was a AD&D2 game that ran through a good portion of the '90s, with the characters hitting about 11th or 12th level. And we've done more than a few one-shots over the years.
  16. And this trailer actually had me getting as misty-eyed as the last one, if not more...
  17. In my group, thus far is 50/50. As far as I'm concerned, at least from a GM standpoint, more the aliens I have stats for, the better.
  18. Aleena, cool. One of my favorite low-key species. Looks like a winner to me.
  19. From two Fridays ago, the players really botched their destiny pool rolls. I had fun with those five dark side points. From last Friday, they brought in a ringer to help them get better rolls. I don't know who that little green guy was, but he was strong with the Force.
  20. "And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call 'guidelines' than actual rules." Oh, wait, wrong Disney movie franchise.
  21. I know when I was doing research for gridding things I found some threads on this forum that proved helpful. https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/89904-anyone-using-tactical-maps/ https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/98096-using-miniatures-and-range-bands/
  22. I started to kick around the idea of using a grid, coming up with movement allowances, et cetera, but I've been way too busy to formulate and test anything. So, we've been using a grid, but instead of hard and fast, we've been winging it. "Yeah, you can move about that far" seems to work for most of the group. And I agree with Snowdragon. There are some who just don't have good spatial sense, and no matter how detailed one gets, they will try to be in two places at once.
  23. Wait. If we are thinking of the same Clone Wars episodes...
