Best way to simulate a large battle ...

40k? What do you think ... We're MADE of money?? lol Yeah- I guess the narrative description will definitely help. I'll give them some explosions to dodge and maybe throw some soil at them.

Best way to simulate a large battle ...

A war is made up of small battles. They have been sent to planet where a global war is taking place - they will only have to survive one attack before I narrate them away. I just want to have a suitable mechanic for this particular firefight.
  3. My party has recently been sent to the front lines by an opposing inquisitor trying to get them killed and I was wondering if there was a better way to simulate a large battle other than giving hundreds of friendlies and enemies initiative and then rolling for every attack... I'm thinking making a few GM rolls for stray shots and artillery and just making sure they survive a certain number of rounds (I don't intend them to fight a whole war Merely this specific attack).

    Rare or important raw materials

Green / Red herbs ... ? Do they combine? Do I smell zombies... ?
  5. I expect there would be a certain level of Telepathic domination of the creature, meaning the "owner" would be able to exert some level of control over the creature. However, maybe a carnosaur, with such a basic brain might be more difficult to control than mammals or more evolved creatures ... ?

    Tricks and Traps

I recently ran a scenario where the party entered a station on an asteroid with no atmosphere, the station was pressurised, but the oxygen/CO2 regulator was malfunctioning. I let them explore for a few minutes before announcing that they all gained a fatigue point. At this point, the tech in the group logged into a terminal and found out that the CO2 levels were rising - they found the regulator in time, and managed to repair it successfully before they asphyxiated

    Stats for auto-turrets

I only have the CRB at this time But I like the idea of the gun-servitor. What I was thinking was 2 or 3 heavy bolter sponsons (A la "Space marine" game) protecting a passageway. IDEALLY, I want the group to find the IFF identifiers that will allow them safe passage, or a non-aggressive route past the guns- as the group will get attacked later; then the attackers will be targeted instead.

    Tricks and Traps

I think using guns in space might be a bad idea in some circumstances too Perhaps with a consequence that a missed shot has a specific % chance of puncturing the hull. (Higher if that weapon has any Pen rating)
  9. I was wondering what sort of stats might be appropriate for automated defence turrets? I'm thinking something like an AP of about 6 and then: WS BS S T Ag Int Per WP Fel - 60 - 30 - - 60 - - Obiously, unable to move with a high Ballistic skill and Perception. My plan is to have the players NOT directly attack them but to find a solution around them or fool them. IDEALLY they will pick up on an investigation clue earlier in the session and have a special IFF transponder.

    PLOT HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Thanks for the suggestions; I found a way to tie-in the murders, but now my players have actually surprised me and caught the culprit... Which I wasn't expecting. I could of course, have made an arbitrary decision that somehow allowed to escape, but I'm rolling with it and they've discovered that although he committed the acts, he was only the puppet of a powerful psyker using him remotely. (Think Fahrenheit) So now I have 2-3 sub plots to fold into the main investigation, including a rogue Inquisitor studying heretek xeno artifacts.

    PLOT HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response but I feel most enforcers, especially a trained arbite would find that pretty easy to link What I'm after is something that the group themselves discover that the local enforcement did not spot.
  12. I need a plot device to link a series of seemingly "ordinary" unconnected murders to chaos cultists... Once the murders come to be indentified as Chaotic, further factors become obvious; they form the shape of an eight-pointed star, etc etc But before this, I need a hook to show that that in an Imperial city of millions, where there are bound to be plenty of "ordinary" murders everyday, some have come to official attention. I was first thinking of simply having them all committed with the same weapon, but I can't think of a weapon (Or it's accompanying wound) which could be linked to the Ruinous powers (Without it being an obvious cult murder)...

How to Assign talents and skills

I've got used to creating "normal" human characters now, but I'm still a bit confused as to how to assign psychic powers to psykers... A starting character Psyker starts at Psy Rating 1, but does (s)he start with any minor powers or do they all need to be purchased using his 400 starting XP from the Sanctionite rank table?
