Part of the appeal (for me) is that there are unpainted miniatures that I get the opportunity to paint. Though I can see hesitation or sadness from people that don't have miniature paints handy.

Of course i'm gonna paint them i paint all my FFG miniatures.
Where is the fun in playing with grey lumps of plastic.
A little paints adds so much to your miniatures even if you do like only 3 colors, it's well worth it.

Tell me about it i've been on the hunt for Suppressed Memories for well over 2 years now it's literally impossible to get in The Netherlands.
They should definitly de a reprint on this as ive seen many people looking for it over my 2 year hunt.
It's sad it's the only expansion missing to complete my Mansions collection 😰

WillemTCG reacted to Zedwardson in I won my first game of Eldritch Horror!
Woot, I know there are people with 100s of games under there belt, but I won my first game of Eldritch Horror!
To start out I had the following investigators -- Akachi Onyele, Diana Stanley, Jim Culver, and Mark Harrigan. In the first round I got very very lucky, as Mark went to get a clue, and had a encounter were he earned a artifact weapon, and earned Sword of Saint Jerome, which I quickly learned make Harrigan a killing machine. Diana Stanley was able to do get some expedition before the mythos cards and rumors started to really cause problems, and Akachi was my gate closer.
the first mystery was to kill a great beast (Tulzscha), which Mark promptly did. I didn't know how to use Jim really, the 2nd mystery required clues, so I had Diana move quickly as she can to pick up some clues, Mark was killing things, and Akachi was closing gates, and we solved the 2nd mystery. By then the mythos cards were really causing issues and we were getting a lot of gates. Jim went insane trying to clear out the mess that was San Fran, and Norman replaced him. Luckily the third mystery card was rather easy (just sacrificing research clues to solve it.) and Mark took out the Tick Tock Men. We solved the third mystery with the doom track on 5.
Cheers to my first victory. Sorry Jim, I totally misused you. I ended up being very lucky getting a one man killing machine so early.
Game was with core and Forbidden Lore.

The picture on the news page got me thinking...Has it ever occured to anyone that Chantler is a compound word, comprised of "chant" and "antler"?

By far my favorite game. Last weekend I played with two friends who have never played it before, so I decided to play using the first scenario because it seems like a good gateway to the game. Normally I would have played another scenario, because I had already played the first one probably 5 or 6 times. But I was happily surprised because it threw down a map layout I was completely unfamiliar with, changed some elements as far as how to unlock a certain door, and incorporated some elements of the new Streets of Arkham expansion! Once we were into it, I was as mystified as to where our objective was as my friends, even if the story was the same and I knew the basics of what had to be done ultimately.

I have to agree. I love this game! I thought it was great with just the base game and DLC but after adding all the expansions a couple months ago - that has made the game just that much better. Sure the overall idea of a scenario is the same and can get boring if you play it over and over again - but having 13 scenarios to choose from means you don't have to play the same scenario all the time. And with components and ideas from different expansions being mixed in randomly to the different scenarios - I don't think I have ever had 2 games of Mansions be exactly the same.

Considering that I just read an article which listed MOM/2E as one of the top 10 bestselling strategy board games of 2017, I find this statement absolutely hilarious.
Arkham Horror also made the list, which I think shows how both games have their fans. But it's immature to confuse "This isn't exactly the game I'm looking for" with "This is a major flub for the company."

MoM2 is also very easy to learn — even very young or very casual players get that they can do two things on their turn, the illustrated rooms and the minis make it pretty obvious what is currently happening and if one person on the table knows the rules a bit, the rest of the players really don't need much of an explanation or preparation. Just grab a character that appeals to you and poke things in that creepy mansion.
That is why MoM2 has become my go to game with people who might enjoy a board game, but don't like complex rules or complex strategies. It's also great with kids. It probably means that I have played MoM2 more often with more different people than every other game in my collection.
And I find that playing a scenario that I know in and out with new people makes it interesting again.

Coming from a wargaming background, to board games and Imperial Assault, then discovering Mansions of Madness, I just love it - it's so different. And with 15 scenarios (with the release of Sanctum of Twilight) there's heaps to replay. If you played a scenario every few weeks you wouldn't have to revisit a scenario for over a year and it'd be fresh again. Like any game, don't play it to death, keep it fresh and keep a variety. Also, using different Investigators makes each scenario different yet again.

Agreed. It's a fun game that appeals to all kinds of people.
Actually, that's one of my favorite things about it, that lots of 'non-gamer' people seem to really enjoy the atmosphere and gameplay.
The replay value is pretty good, at least if you shell out money for all the expansions. I have owned the game for well over a year but haven't had time to play all the scenarios yet! Of the few I have played multiple times, one scenario was rather similar (though not exactly), but I still enjoyed it immensely.

If you don't want to buy it, then don't, but to say FFG "flubbed" this game is ridiculous.

WillemTCG reacted to Aelitafrommars in Overall Variety in MoM
It's the one that i play the most from ffg and i got started with arkam horror, too. It's different, that's for sure. More elaborately scripted events, more narrative, the scenarios are more mysterious than your average AH game, you need to find stuff out.
Each expansion adds in new map variations and little things to the older scenarios. A common complaint at the launch was that there were too few scenarii at the time, which restricted replay value for many, but that was then. Now, you have a lot of contents to dive into.
That's my two cents.
btw... What'd be the point of making another AH?

For every Mansions of Madness miniature,
25mm: x 79 (47 Monsters + 32 Investigators).
50mm: x13 (including the Dunwich Horror that has a very wide leg-span, just use heat to reshape his 3 'standing' legs).
I've seen a lot of articles using 3 and 4 different sizes, but I've found I can just use 2. Taking up as little space on the board is what I'm after. Some people have not based some of the larger figures at all, which works, but I don't want the miniatures scratching/denting the cardboard tiles.
I use the 1.5mm high bases (from Litko), as the 3mm high bases really create an unwanted 'floating' look.
I recommend having spares as accidents do happen: the glue doesn't take first go and leaves a dry puddle behind, glue will go where you don't want it to go, etc. I use Zap-a-Gap's Polyzap, which is made for not fogging acrylic (use too much and it will fog, but use minimal amounts and it doesn't fog). I came to hate Craftics Clear Thickened Acrylic Cement (it just keeps oozing from the tube and becomes unusable in seconds, a waste of money for the amount you actually get to use, and all the cancer warnings on the tube were a little scary), so I found the Polyzap alternative that works as fast as normal Zap-a-Gap Superglue.
I hope all this helps with your own descent in Madness.

Could this be the most dangerous mansion in Arkham, Massachusetts?
This is every Monster miniature from Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition, Recurring Nightmares and Suppressed Memories.

If this early in the game people are actually going to deny their opponent the Arsenal 4 on the only model that can take the upgrade, I just... sweet living Force people...

WillemTCG reacted to pkreynolds in General Weiss
We all know that keywords with numbers stack. Stormtroopers can use Targeting Scopes to get Precise 2, and Weiss gives his AT-ST Arsenal 4. If it's not in the online rules reference currently, I'm sure it will be soon.

WillemTCG reacted to MasterShake2 in Suppression: Melee or Ranged?
Yeah, no, suppression would literally do nothing if that were the case. The number listed on the card is the value for the whole unit and it's not even ambiguous about that.
