Biggs why cant these events be done in a more reasonable pace?  Forcing people to play online for 12 hours on a weekend day and basically ignoring their family seams very extreme.

Why not do events that are spread out across a week or 2 weeks?

These frantic events offer people with ANY OBLIGATIONS AT ALL during the time you are holding it, no way to participate.

It seams much more reasonable to extend the event in a way similar to the VWC, but when every vassel event is one of these mad dashes, many people simply can not play.

I understand that you want the IRL tournament effect, but that is a novelty and not needed in a digital format.

The first 24 hour tourney was quite popular. The format is back by popular demand.

I mean, FO has the extra-large (Resurgent-class?) Star Destroyer, the Dreadnaught, and... whatever they call Snoke’s ship, which (given its dimensions) would probably not fit standard Armada geometry, and require something like two large bases flown sideways. That’s three large to huge ships, without much smaller support. I suppose they could bring Raiders or Arquitens forward... yeah, maybe they have enough. But lists would be pretty limited.

Comics are good enough of a source for me, which is what expands the First Order into a viable faction:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Maxima-A_class_heavy_cruiser (Mel's as a fantastic mock of up of this ship: https://www.shapeways.com/product/JUMKF6WLH/armada-maxima-a-heavy-cruiser?optionId=165067910&li=shops)

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/First_Order_Light_Cruiser

I wouldn't expect the model for the Resurgent to be really that much bigger than an ISD. Add like 10% length and call it done.  I don't really care about the art books that give them ridiculous length. On screen they look to be about the same size as the Sith Fleet ISDs (again, I don't really care that the art book made these randomly bigger for...reasons?). We have a sliding scale anyway. So that said, in my mind we have a large in the Resurgent, a medium in the Maxima (which Mel's Miniatures has done an excellent model for) and a small in the light cruiser. If we really wanna get froggy, you can add the Xyston Star Destroyer from the Final Order. That's enough to flesh out a pretty good faction on its own before getting into repeats.

The Resistance has enough from just TLJ alone. The MC85 (again, sliding scale, screw the random numbers in an art book), the Ninka, and the new-style Nebs is enough to make them unique before repeats. I'm sure there are others from the comics as well.

and nothing else, I am afraid

I would consider 3 ships and some fighers enough to start an Armada faction. That's enough for a starter set and a follow up wave. Resistance and First Order have juuuuuuuuust enough to fill out the start of a fleet. I think the Grysk were depicted in a comic, right?

Look at how restrictive Sato is and you have an idea of what kinds of things you can already do with long range black dice.

To echo Shmitty, long range black dice is Sato's thing. Sure, he can do other dice in a pinch, but the players who have gotten the most out of him have done so with black dice. While he doesn't do all that well competitively because he can be very matchup dependent, he has been known to give people some nightmares. @Alzer can speak to the Minnesota meta absolutely hating Sato.

All of that is really just to say, if you wanna do some long range black dice, give Sato a shot. @ExplosiveTooka @shmitty and myself have all dabbled with Sato and had some level of success. I'd be happy to share my experiences.

  5. The designs are excellent, but Shapeways has gotten more and more expensive. I do not recommend getting anything below the high quality. The lower quality stuff is typically quite grainy. The high quality is on part with FFG Armada detail, if not a little better because Mel does such good work.

Rey is super cool. I like how she really developed her survival and combat skills while abandoned on Jakku. Much more believable than just being “born with the power” like Mary Sue Luke and Anakin

Or how about Millennium Falcon Rey? Lando and Han are so overrated anyway.

Last I heard, he'd moved onto another game. Maybe Drop Zone Commander or something like it. Don't take my word for it though.

Yeah, pretty sure it was Dropfleet Commander (the ship version of Dropzone Commander). I know Dropzone Commander is mighty tempting for me. I love me some massed combated arms warfare. If Dropfleet is anything like Dropzone, I understand the temptation. @shmitty was going to run me through a game of Dropzone at Adepticon, but alas, covid killed that plan.

I do think you need the fourth option, table them turn three. Its highly effective but you do need to lean haaaaarrrrd on it.

Yup. That's the fourth way. It a lot of fun, way more fun than heavy squads for sure, but it can collapse like a house of cards. I called my Raddus fleet "a leaf on the wind" for a reason. But it can definitely be done. I feel like I proved that last year. I tabled 3 straight squad squad heavy Imps on day two, all by turn 4. And before the inevitable "those were bad players," one of those tablings was a blood bath against @MandalorianMoose. I...don't think anyone can reasonably call him a bad player. Oddly enough, my worst game was against @JJs Juggernaut, who was also squadless.

    Quad laser turrets

    Linked turbolaser turrets

Using flak to kill/cripple squads prior to engaging ships

    Tabling them turn 3

    Cluster bombs

    Toryn Flak

    Flechette Torpedos

    Exogorths

    Early warning system

Parking on station or obstacles to obstruct hull zones

I would also add some pure tanking upgrades to this list, such as Expert Shield Techs, Iden (especially on a Raider), Captain Brunson (especially on an Interdictor), and Reinforced Blast Doors. @rasproteus just spanked the **** out of me with a squadless Imp fleet. It was a thing of beauty.

    Protech's post looks 100% legit.

Oh people have denied it. Denied it for YEARS on these forums. With as Baltanok suggests, even harder and more damning and even stronger overperformance of max squads in the data sheets. You wouldn't believe it...

Thankfully enough, the Armada reddit is very plain in calling out the overperformance.

Only in your own little delusional bubble. At this point, people have accepted the over performance of squads for far longer than it was denied. But you seem to want to continue to rehash something from three years ago. The fact remains the devs have tried time and again to reign in the worst archetypes. There's been a constant stream of upgrades and erratas that have weakened key squad heavy archetypes. Have they swung the pendulum hard enough? Probably not, but that doesn't mean they won't keep trying.

At the moment, Armada is not getting the frequent points rebalancing of Legion and X-Wing because they are constrained by the old contract for Armada, where every single FAQ (including the most recent one) has to go through a long approval process with Lucasfilm. I expect that will be changed in the near future. By my understanding, when the contract is renewed, Clone War offers the devs a chance to re-launch Armada in a great way. So rather than come in, start the same stupid fight you always have for the last three years, just calm down and enjoy the game. Or don't. No skin off my back either way.

NOVA Fleet is the best place to find games and talk Armada in the DC, Baltimore, and Richmond area.  We also just started a Discord group to help reach out to people on other platforms.

Aside from that, the DC area is home to the NOVA Open gaming convention, which includes the Armada Grand Championship.  That will be in September, so hopefully we can still have it.  Lots of local players in that one, including some of the top players in the game.

You did? First I'm heard of it. Can you post a link to it on the FB page or just PM me?

The evade change was really just a new rule to account for the Onager’s extreme range. It’s somewhat helpful for MSU. Really I think raising the squadron cap was the death of MSU. The lift to 50% squadrons gave a much needed boost to an under represented aspect of the game, but not allowing Salvo to be used on squadrons was probably a bit heavy handed.

Rules wise I think we just need some point adjustments. Leia is too cheap for what she does, and Sloane could use a buff.

The troll is strong with this one.

  14. As has been said, the NOVA Fleet Facebook page is the best, and really only, place for reliable info. I know. It sucks to rely on Facebook. As has been said, you can try to look at individual store pages, such as Huzzah, Play More, and Bel Air Games. However, the page has become such a great hub that you'll see one off events get posted very frequently, such the Primes down in Richmond, or the CAPA Cup up in Central PA. There's even a Boy Scout Fundraiser tournament that pops up every so often. It really is the most convenient place to find events and people to play with.
