  1. I'm not suggesting creating a retail product but simply using patreon, kickstarter or the like to raise money to support the effort of compiling and playtesting "corrected" point values and distributing the results.  Wouldn't really be that much different than the current squad-building apps.  Would just provide meager compensation for the poor souls that would be responsible for hashing a balanced game.

There is still money involved so it's not a good idea. Still, it is highly unlikely that you would be actually sued for it. A cease and desist letter is highly likely though.

  2.

To sell?  Almost certainly NOT!  Just to use for yourself or within a small group (houserules) you'll probably be fine with it.

Comparing it to the relationship Pathfinder and DnD 3.5 have is very misleading.  You need to remember that 3.5 had an open SRD which other companies could use within their rules.  As far as I know FFG doesn't have anything like that for X-Wing so you'd be stepping on a lot of toes if you were trying to sell it and especially if you were branding it X-Wing 2.0.

Game rule cconcept can't have a copyright, once a game has been made someone can turn around and make another game with similar rules and such, they just need to be careful about any trademark names

It is my understanding that ways of doing things cannot have a copyright - which would apply to game rules. I can't copyright my filing system I use at work for example. Therefore, someone could make a Flightpath(ish) game without having a license for Flightpath. However, if the pieces for it start to become too similar (same range values with the same rulers, dials looking exactly the same, etc) you're probably getting into lawsuit territory. Plus, you obviously can't use the name Flightpath. It's important to note that I am not an attorney in any kind of way (I'm a psychologist). But I have worked with numerous testing publishers/creators that run into similar issues with specific subtests.

  3. It would be like pathfinderRPG, it can be used with dnd 3.x, but it can't be called dnd and would have to be careful about what it uses.

You would have another problem in that I believe many of the ship names are specific trademarks. You would have to call the X-Wing something like "Quad-Wing Rebel Star Fighter" or something along those lines. Millennium Falcon could be like Century Hawk or Rebel 1300 Freighter.

  4. Fel did an admirable job cleaning up, but Poe had that boy in his sights.

I guess the xwing is back.

Well, no matter what happens now, an X-Wing will be in the world champ's list.

  5. Seems like the champ got outplayed in the opening strategy but managed to recover a little with aggressive flying. I don't think it will be enough though. It's hard to come back from a bad beginning.

  6. Man, there were so many angry people when the K-Wing was announced. Some were even saying that they would walk away from the table if their opponent put one down. I wonder how they will feel if the 3k list wins it all...

  7. One of the main characters of the new book Aftermath is Norra Wexley. She was Gold Nine and one of the pilots who flew into the deathstar in rotj. I'm not sure what she flew though, maybe the lone y-wing (since Gold is typically y-wings)

Wasn't the y-wing pilot flying into the death star in RotJ originally Horton Salm in the EU? I guess he's out.

  8. My wife really enjoys playing and is actually really good. She regularly outplays me although we're both still learning at this point. She's expressed some mild interest in tournament play, but she regularly gets treated poorly at gaming stores and conventions (guys awkwardly hit on her, follow her around, etc) like GenCon so she's highly reluctant to participate. Too bad really.

  9. Sorry for the delay in my report, but other Gen Con activities grabbed my attention. The winning list was the 1 Vic-3 Glad, he had 8 tournament points over second place.

    Here is the list.

Second place was a rebel list with 2 AF (one mk A and one B), a CR90 A, and 3 A-wings (one was Tycho). He ran Garm Bel Imblis as his commander. Both AFs had Enhanced Armament; one had Imblis and Paragon, the other had Intel Officer and Gunnery Team. He actually defeated me at table 3 in the final round and moved up to 2nd place. (I gotta learn how to deal with AFs with my list).

Here is a picture of the top two.

    And the final standings

I also have recorded interviews with both top 2 players that will be posted (in a new post) once I make sure they are edited. They sounded good, but I'm going to see if I can do anything for the background noise.

I like how there's a door in the background with big letters saying "DO NOT BLOCK" with a bunch of boxes blocking it.

  10. Are any of them streaming/broadcasting

Yeah, I'm wondering this as well. That's a huge number of players in Plano. DFW Metroplex is huge, but I bet they're also grabbing players from Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. It's going to be an awesome tournament.

  11. My biggest issue with the trailer is that Vader's voice is awful. Now, I understand that they probably couldn't get James Earl Jones (is he still alive?), but c'mon! I've heard a ton of people that can do better imitations than that. Otherwise, I'm slightly peeved that they're using the trope that because someone is old - merely physically aged, in the case of the clones - that means they lose all of their discipline and become some bumbling Sanford & Sons-like scrounger. Rex was a hardass, with a good head on his shoulders. Now he drives an AT-TE that looks like it's been rejected by Jawas?

In the interest of full disclosure, I haven't watched any of Rebels (no cable), but I've watched all of the Clone Wars series through the end of Season Five and loved it.

His voice does sound weird, but that actually is James Earl Jones.

  12.

I'm excited for Latts Razzi because it's a pilot that supports other Scum pilots.

    There's that.

Anyone else notice that this pilot bears a distinct similarly to the new Emperor card?

    No range.

Isn't this basically a hard counter to C-3PO on Fat Han? I'm kind of a newbie, but it seems like it would heavily reduce Han's damage mitigation.

    not really

if you're shooting at Han and you use LaTTs to cancel 3po, then whoever shoots after is still going to run into the golden ponce

Latts' ability on lasts for the attack that utilizes it, after its done the Yt-1300 does back to agility 1

It's good for finishing the bugger off, or if you can only get a shot per turn on him, but that's about it

Yeah, that's a good point. It could still deal some good damage from that one attack though - might be an interesting pairing with an ally with proton rockets (assuming a decent roll).
