Not every starship design has to be a unique work of art. These are warships not fashion trinkets, even though they are fictional. I agree nostalgia plays a large part in the case of the dreadnought, but I honestly also just like the design. It looks rugged and reliable but also sluggish. Also the Assault Frigate Mk1 (rebel mod of the dreadnought) is one of the most beautiful ships in SW imho.
Obviously a design such as the Eclipse SSD is aesthetically more pleasing than the Carrack or the Dreadnought, but one of the charms imho of SW ships is that the ships don't have to be beautiful. They just need to 'feel' starwars.

Lord Tareq got a reaction from Aldaros in Isn't anyone else gobsmacked at the price of the new large ships?
I wish they would introduce some old favorites like the vindicator class, dreadnought class, Assault frigate mk-I, liberator-class, etc.. plenty of nice established ships to choose from. It's not that I don't like the Starhawk model, because I think it really does look fine. Its just that I don't associate it with Starwars. It could just as well be a Battlefleet Gothic or Battlestar Galactica ship to me.
As for the pricing, it is a bit steep.

I too would have preferred such a scale, where we would have actual "armada" battles rather than skirmishes.

LOL, wut... why?  Squadrons and ships are already in radically incompatible scales, so why would the desired size for the abstract squadron miniatures have any necessary bearing on how big or small the ship models could be?  Whether an ISD is four inches long or eight inches long, it's still grossly out of scale with the squadron stands.  So I can't buy that that they settled on a size for squadron miniatures and were then forced into any particular size for ship miniatures.

Its been awhile since ive played Aramada, Many things contributed to my selling off of most of my collection but ive always loved the concept. Star wars space battles, yes please!

However though I enjoyed the original game I was always left with a bittersweet taste when it game to the actual games. With the exception of fighter combat which was mostly great ship combat felt off to me, and with more expansions more and more the game became about what "upgrades" you had as opposed to what tactics you used. I think most people who play FFG games prefer this kind of game to the closer to simulation games that I like. Although I am not married to complicated, I just wanted the emphasis to be on maneuver rather than upgrades and the meta there. Sure there is a "kind" of maneuvering in the game but its nothing like what I imagine real large scale capital ship combat to be like in star wars. It reminds me more of Patrol boats swerving and shooting at each other in some shallow water battlefields.
Anyway, I did enjoy the time I spent with the game but ultimately moved on, to create/modify my own version of armada. Its based on Halo Fleet battles rules for those of you who know what that is and uses the same scale 1/20000.

And the scale specifically is what id like to talk about, actually Im excited to buy the new SSD thats coming out (I check back every once in awhile, wasnt it supposed to be out already?) because it is MUCH closer to my scale and will look GREAT next to my force as opposed to the armada destroyers.
I think 1/20000 would have been a much better scale for armada, sadly there is no going back now and I know this has been brought up many times for discussion. This really isnt about rehashing that debate, more its just a post for me to showcase my own work and a sort of tribute to what could have been.

That said, I HOPE that Armada is not dead as I often read and is just in a kind of hibernation.
Here is various images of my work in 1/20000 scale

I too kind of wish the game leaned a bit more towards simulation than it does.

Venator should be a large ship, the cheapest large ship in the game basically. It's essentially the Republic version of the ISD in that its the main battleship so it has to be a large size ship. Combat capability wise I'd like to see similar stats to the VSD, but it should not be substantially better. I'd envision slightly less firepower, higher squadron command value, very similar hull/shield/defensive tokens (maybe 1 more hull-point due to its larger size) but speed 3 rather than 2 and slightly more expensive than the VSD.

To bring realism into this discussion  we should note that, although Lucas obviously didn't care for it, their is a very basic rule that with similar technology, what you can do with a ship is mostly determined by how much size you commit to a certain design aspect.
When a Venator has 20 times as many squadrons as a VSD, this also means roughly 20 times as much room is needed to store the fighters, squadron munitions, reserve parts, support personnel, house the pilots etc..etc..not to mention the actual launch bays. This means there is significantly less room for either weapon systems, or sensor equipment, or the reactor, or defensive systems, or ground forces, etc.. you get the picture. Imho when you have that much capacity dedicated to squadrons the Venator should basically be at least half as effective in all other aspects (firepower, shields, engines etc.) than the Victory. You cannot have a technologically similar ship of roughly the same mass just be way better by having 10 times as many squadrons, equal firepower and defenses as well as better speed. Something has got to give.

Lord Tareq got a reaction from Varyag in Possible idea for the squadron problem (if you call it a problem)
Imho there shouldn't be an easy fix for dealing with squadrons if you don't take any yourself. Squadrons being their own counter is perfect. You have the option not to take any squadrons and risk being in big trouble vs carrier fleets, you can take a token fighter screen to delay the enemy squadrons while your ships do their job, or you can invest heavily in squadrons yourself but end up with less ships. Seems balanced.
I just feel the squadron phase should be more streamlined so it doesn't bog the game down as much.

If we ignore the obvious range issue, tanks can in theory cause damage to warships. Though it depends on the era & ship. WWII battleships were so heavily armored I can't see a WWII tank penetrate it, but modern main battle tanks can pierce the armor of pretty much all modern warships. There is an example from WWII where the germans fought US ships part of a naval landing taskforce with tanks at Salerno.
