N97 adds: "Analysis: Box appears to be a clandestine communications device. Similar to those used by the 'Black-Sun' crime syndicate. Further information confirmation could be obtained by a dissection of the device, however there is a high risk of destroying the device." Then he N97 hands the device to the Lieutenant and turns to fix the circuit box he had ripped apart. [OOC: Updated with better description of what he learned from his knowledge roll]

Know-Underworld - black box: 4eA+3eD 1 success, 4 threat So he knows what it is, but also has some questionable additional info on it?

I thought a little shake up in the morning would be a good use of the triumph. Also having the building suddenly power down may add dramatic effect to our interrogation. Spend triumph to find a device in the power panel that should not be there, and perhaps with power fluctuations we could get a boost to the interrogations first roll? Perhaps the other advantages would be used to have the town look favorably on us for finding a clue to a possible traitor in the town? Just ideas. The significance/importance (or lack thereof) I will leave up to the Cnl, but I thought it would be fun. Rebels can be too careful about security. Mechanics electric panel: 1eA+3eP+1eB+2eD 2 successes, 4 advantage, 1 Triumph (boost is from Journeyman's tools)

While the organics organizing their approach to the prisoner, N97 turns and heads to the electrical box for the building. Popping it open he does a quick scan of the system. Finding the correct connection to the lower level lights he pops out the circuit breaker. With his other hand he reaches behind, rotating his arm in a way that is very unnatural, at least would be for an organic, and pulls out a small plug-looking electrical device. As he does this you can see that he has a second display, this one on his upper back, that brightens slightly to illuminate the contents of his backpack. Also now visible is a row of optical sensors on the back of his head. After a minute of adjusting the device with tools that fold out of his forearm, he plugs it into the breaker box. He is about to leave when he pauses. Shifting his stance he seems to be staring at the box. With a rotation of his head he sends a message to each of his team's comlinks, as well as to Lt. Braxus. "Priority Alert. Unknown device. Can not rule out situational compromise." Bringing both arms forward with extraordinary speed, four spanners emerge from his forearms and the bolts attaching the front panel to the electrical box are rapidly spun out onto the floor. Jerking the entire panel off the wall the building is plunged into darkness. With the sudden change in the lighting the room falls silent, perhaps more with surprise than anything. Reaching in behind the panel the droid disconnects and removes a small black painted metal box. N97 then moves quickly up to Lt. Braxus, passing through beams of morning light streaming in the windows and presents the metal device for his inspection. He puts up on his display: "Priority: Possible security compromise. 69% chance device has transmission capability. This exceeds risk profile for immediate notification. Now deactivated."

Are we playing a 'work it out among ourselves' style team structure or do we have a leadership structure within the team? Either way is fine with the droid. I was for now going to default to Lt. Atala being 'in-charge' of his day to day reporting/duties generally (due to their history) but he will follow any legal/moral command from the team. I bring this up due to the differing opinions on how aggressive the 'interview' of the prisoner should be, and if the time should be taken to make the heater. As a player I recommend going in without these effects at first, then add later if needed for any needed 'boosts' to our follow up checks. The only direct help that N97 might be in the interrogation is the use of his Multi-Goo gun built into his arm. It has Ensnare 4, so prisoner could be 'pushed' into wall, plat him up there with the goo so he is helpless and perhaps more likely to take us seriously. (Multi-Goo Gun: 5dam ShortRange Crit:5 Enc5 200cr HP1 R3 Ensnare4, Burn2, Knockdown, Disorient1. +1Adv. to Mechanics checks on Droids, vehicles or ships. GM may use 2 Threat or 1 Despair to make item run out of ammo/cartridges. Replacement is 20cr and takes Action. Mods: 2x Disorient. SM:45) I am going to play N97 as a non-command specialist. He has increased access to data / intel as one with a mid-level command rank, but does not have a command rank ability (partly due to being a droid, but partly by his choice). This goes along with his years and years of service. Sort of an R2D2 type position in the movies. Trusted, but ignored most of the time. Cnl: let me know if you recommend a different approach to the droid.

Thanks, I did a search for his name, but somehow mis-identified him as a dresellian. Updated post.

With the new information N97 adds to his display. "Update: Heater device would take 37 minutes to create with known materials"
-
There is not a way for N97 to nod, so he response is displayed on his chest screen: "Statement: Affirmative. Will need 3:25 minutes of prep time."

He was just too drunk to appreciate the piano last night. Or a piano fell on his mum and so hates pianos.

When Lieutenant Braxus starts the briefing N97 rotates to face him directly. Not having any easy way to otherwise signify that he is paying attention he brightens the soft light around his visual sensors and puts up a low level color to his upper-chest display panel. When called on, he dutifully takes the recording device from the Bothan and attaches it to his built in scanner, integrating the devices. He then moves to stand with the others on his newly formed team. The droid has learned where his skills lay, and where they don't, so he is encouraged at Lt. Braxus' insight into his areas of expertise. This is of course that he is best utilized on the technical side of this mission instead of being assigned the social tasks. Even droids with social programming often don't get the same degree of response to their job as an organic would. N97 isn't bothered by this, he simply recognizes it as a true fact.
-
I think we may be waiting for a morning briefing and team assignments first.
-
N97, as typical with most droids, has no easy facial features to give quick and easy feedback in a normal conversation. Even the protocol droids, who have been designed for this purpose, will often struggle with what N97 would call 'low substance casual conversation'. Not to say that he finds that conversation to have no value, in fact he has noticed that it is those type of interactions that allow the organics to thrive, to connect and to establish trust with each other. It takes time, but most will get used to interacting with him. Lt. Atala has over the last months become very comfortable with his style. But even with this familiarity N97 usually will put up short social responses on his display to confirm that he is listening and to give that social feedback organics require. So during his conversation with Lt. Atala he displays various words and phrases as are appropriate. After the remark about vacation he states: "Observation: After their betrayal by one of our own, a short vacation may be what these troops need." Again he does a pause, which signifies his wish to add another comment, but never seems to be timed exactly right. "Objective: New team assignments. Assess hardware needs."

N97 spent the night re-organizing and categorizing the meager supplies the embattled rebellion troopers were able to cobble together. When completed, after about 4 hours, he walks the village using his data scanner to create a detailed 3-D map. Finally he reviews the buildings just out of town proposed to be used for a temporary machine shop. When complete he sends this data to Quartermaster Somal, Chief Vwikk and to Lt. Atala. When the sun rises he spends a moment with his sensors trained on the various colors and light intensities that display across the valley, lighting the mountain, then down to the village. Still not certain why he keeps this ritual, but it has been part of him for so long now he doesn't even know why. He is suspicious that this is remnants of the personality of his original creator. When the notification comes in that Lt. Atala has seen the data he presumes she is awake and sends a morning status update. In a typical fashion he sends this routine information in a non-intrusive notification. "Greeting: Good morning. Beautiful sunrise." By now she is used his perfunctory greetings, as well has he attempts as trying to come off as 'less mechanical'. "Status: We are resource poor. Statement: Village not ideal for short-term or long term base." This is followed by about a dozen tactical reasons to support his statement, all of them reasons she had already realized after her early morning explorations.

Anyone interested in a combined check? Ping has a strong 2 green for Coercion and charm, 1 for deception.
-
Thanks, I think of Ping as hyperactive and socially a little clueless and it helps me formulate a good post. I kind of made of up that a pirate or two might have survived since I didn't get a message from you saying otherwise (no news is tacit approval ). Ping would help heal them up enough to get some information from them if possible, but we may need a socially (charm, coercion or deception) stronger character do the 'interview'
-
Ping medicine check. I guess he figured it out this time Medicine check: 2eA+3eD 1 success, 2 threat
-
Ping unceremoniously drops the speeder parts and watches as the Mirialan releases the scouting droids. "I do think having a map of the area will help with future engagements." He then squats down near the two unconscious and bound pirates and starts to check their condition. "Does anyone have any medical training? I will help the surviving pirates as I can, but this is not an area I have training. I know that if it is bleeding, put a hand on it," he demonstrates by putting a hand his side, "if it is still bleeding, then put another hand or two on it," again he puts more hands on his side, "and if still bleeding, then hands won't fix it."
-
Please do. I was just filling in background stuff. Please don't ever hold for me, the droid will just keep chugging in the background.
-
No need to delay, and no need for a list of all the resources. He will likely craft mainly at night, and won't have resources gathered to do this for a few days.
-
In response to the Verpine, N97 appropriately allows him to inspect his ancient servos and mechanisms. "I believe 'antiquated' is the term often used. I am afraid that I have had too many memory wipes to have direct knowledge of my origins." He pauses again to signal a change in topic, mainly for the organics benefit. "Perhaps you could see if they need a engineering task completed in barter. I will be glad to oversee such a project." He then turns and starts organizing the items designated for engineering.
-
N97 leaves the meeting hall in his stylized mechanical stride. Not adding damping to his step the blunt mechanical steps are noticed from a short distance. He leaves into the early night to find Quartermaster Luna Somali and finds her in an impromptu working group with the head of engineering Chief Vwikk. The droid approaches then waits for recognition. After the customary credentials exchange N97 opens up both their com-links so that he can communicate directly. His voice continues to have a precision as when in conversation, however when addressing superiors he modifies his speech to a more clipped and abbreviated form of communication. “Greetings: Quartermaster Somal, Ma’am, Chief Vwikk, Sir. Designation: Specialist Engineer N97 at your service. Primary Tasking: Field team support. Secondary Tasking: Engineering Specialist. Objective: Establish field engineering shop. Review supplies.” He then pauses, perhaps assuming they would know that he would need to review the supplies listing, or create it if it hasn’t been done, and then be shown where they prefer the shop to be established.

Can anyone confirm if Tookur, Sequano or Chief Vwikk survived/arrived at the temporary rebel camp? If I understand correctly The Brick is Tookur's pet project and he is in charge if it? Do we have any other general mechanics around such as Vwikk? Or is he vehicle maintenance only? Sorry for so many posts, trying to get myself a good understanding of things.
-
I edited N97's greeting post made late in the evening to acknowledge Dr. Hanson, sorry missed that for some reason. N97 would make sure to greet each team member.
-
The Welding Rod he is going to build will need about 400cr worth of materials, he will barter with some of the items the rebels have plus he will offer his services for in barter. I will post later today. Luckily the main parts of a welder are low tech, it is just the power supply and a few basic electronics. I will RP the interactions IC.
-
First need to interact with quartermaster, then will likely set up shop temporarily near the main supply depot. (If we are going to be here more permanently then he will make a more permanent type building for the shop away from the main populace due to noise). He will go through supplies available, then likely barter/purchase some supplies from local machine shop/metal worker for anything else he needs. He would be organizing any machine shop equipment we have (which may be very little so a short list is fine). Mainly this is RP for him so he can have the shop set up and eventually staff it with an rebel mechanic and likely droid helper to do routine repairs while he is on mission. Do you want me to RP out the quartermaster info or do you have a name/species/gender already set?
