  1. N97 also inquires from Braxus. He puts up on his display: "Inquiry: Sir, would you like me to disassemble the communication device to investigate its purpose?"

He also puts up a small picture on his display of the communication device he pulled from the wall in case the Lieutenant had become distracted and had forgotten about the device.

Because the droids comlink is integrated, while he is in discussion with Lt. Braxus he also opens a silent comlink to Chief Vwikk of engineering. "Chief, Specialist-Engineer N97 reporting. I am available for special assignment. Would you like me to report to you for a review of current maintenance tasks?"

The voice that N97 has chosen to use is a clear, but clearly droid-metallic, voice for his audible communications.  Even though he a small selection of more organic sounding voices, the organics seem to prefer a voice that is consistent and can easily be identified as coming from a droid.

  2. N97 moves back as the others join to discuss the prisoner. Turning his sensors around the room he looks for any sign of the communication device found behind the circuit panel.

When Dr. Hanson asks for the data display N97 immediately complies. A small circular port opens up on his forearm and a holo-display shows the events of the interrogation. While playing them he makes the comment by displaying it on his upper chest display: "Observation: I found no biometric indicators of false statements, however I am not  an expert in reading every organics true intentions. The prisoner admitted to betraying a cell operation to the Empire, he deliberately went against his superior officer's order not to attack the bridge and by his actions caused the death of many cell members, as well as the discovery and destruction of the cell location and resources. Perhaps most importantly he set back the Rebellions cause in the hearts and minds of the entire region"

  3. N97 is satisfied and awaiting the completion of the others interrogation so they can return to the Lt. He can assist anyone with further questions/actions if needed, just ask the droid to do something and he will do it so just write out the results. This may also give an assist on a check (boost).

  4. The droid N97 watches carefully as the recalcitrant traitor spills his guts. The droid is not an expert at deciphering complex human emotions, but has been observing organic beings for a long time. Pulling deep on rarely-used processors, he runs the facial expressions, body position, voice tone and words through a complex algorithm looking for signs of deceit. Straining himself some with the unusual demand on his sub-processors he comes a reasonable conclusion.

Shutting down his Goo-gun and folding his forearm back together he raises his now returned-to-position hand. "Statement: After a careful biometric evaluation, I do not find signs that prisoner Zavvel is being deceitful." He then backs up to the wall and returns to a relaxed position, awaiting the conclusion of the interrogation.

  5. Quote from IC:

"I never told anyone else about what I'd done, not exactly. I told Kanbar, my XO, that I was going to see the spook, but he knew nothing else, and one of you people put a bolt through his neck back at the warehouse, so he's not really going to be worth questioning. I didn't have any other accomplices. Don't bring yourselves down with a **** witch hunt for more conspirators, because you won't find any," he seems irritated by the weight of questioning being launched at him.

"I wasn't the one who revealed the location of the base, I don't know who that was, and I couldn't guess anyway. I'm never happy to see anyone dead, even the Colonel - he was good, in and of himself, even if he was too wrapped up in your Republic ideals."

    And in a second post:

"He said his name was Callox; whether that's a pseudonym or not I don't know. We spoke three days before the op, at a cafe in Sanctuary Square, in the centre of Nostria. He was human, I'm fairly sure he was ISB - almost certain in fact, given the circumstances - but he was in plain clothes. I don't know more than that," you can tell that Zavvel's willingness to share more information is wavering. "I was able to reach him unnoticed because I'm a Captain, nobody watched where I went, least of all my own people."

"He seemed pleased at the information, though he thought I was implying a small raid, nothing like the scale it was really at. He thanked me for the information, but told me that my service to the Empire was payment enough. Brakast even had the nerve to say how relieved he was that some aliens still had proper morals."

What is the difficulty on an opposed Perception (mine) vs. his deception to see if N97 can tell if he is telling the truth?

  6. Thanks! That helps a lot to know.

Alliance High Command has - as far as I'm concerned - issued a set of orders regarding treatment of prisoners stating that they aren't to be mistreated beyond an unreasonable level. That means no torture, no cruel and unusual punishment, and no execution. The stated reason was that they wanted to separate themselves from the Empire, who make gleeful use of such measures. Doctor Cohlen has continually backed such measures; Lieutenant Braxus feels that at times they have prevented his units from operating effectively. If there are any further questions, or I haven't effectively clarified what military law states, just let me know.

  7. ColonelCommissar: I think many of us are still not certain how you are playing the rebellion military. Specifically on how they handle military prisoners who have committed treason/murder, etc. If they are a normal military than the prisoner is lying about his rights, if the rebellion you have established is a "no death penalty no matter what" version then we need to know.

As for knowing the regulations,  N97 would likely have all the regulations on file (if not on him then in his data pad). Just as a human would remember something, N97 stores it for later retrieval. (He would need this to reference to make sure his daily actions would not contradict military law.)

Right now the characters know what the military law is in regard to the prisoners situation, it is just the players who don't know. Could you fill us in?

  8. When Lt Atala enters with Ensign Noman the droid shifts slightly to give them access to the prisoner.

Without moving his lower body N97 rotates his upper body nearly 180 degrees. Turned so that the prisoner can not read his display he comments: "Status: The prisoner has admitted to treason. He betrayed the Rebellion Army to the empire leading directly to the death of most of the Rebel Cell as well as many civilians. He ordered the destruction of civilian structures vital to the health of the civilian population."

Rotating back he keeps his built-in working Goo-gun pointed forward.

  9. As a retired US Air Force officer I don't know of any military that would not consider such actions treason. And in a time of war that is the death penalty. While I believe torture to be a less than effective means of interrogation, roughing up a prisoner such as this hardly breaks any significant conventions (didn't even cause any wounds). Now if he was a member of a different nation's military (in this case such as an Imperial), then imprisonment for life would be the typical sentence.

Cnl: How are you playing the rebellion's way of handling military members that commit treason/wanton murder?

  10. N97 moves into the room and stops in front of the prisoner. Bringing his arm up slowly he stops mid-air. In a rapid symmetric motion his hand splits in half, folds back, and a large-bore barrel emerges from his palm. At the same time a rapid clicking sound can be heard coming from his forearm which splits in four sections and slides upward towards his shoulder. Inside is a complex set of tubing, heating elements and mixing compounds in various canisters. At the base is a control dial with a large slowly pulsing red light.

Across his chest the LED starts to flash a warning: "Warning: Industrial tool. Molten adhesive not intended for use on organic flesh. Serious injury and disfigurement likely." A small bit of steam rises from the end of barrel.

  11. Well it's funny you should find something...

Formidable Mechanics check of Hard Knowledge (Underworld) check to determine the provenance of the device. You can have a Boost on the first check during the interrogation (one advantage) and get a floating ability upgrade (three advantages).

Remember to use these during the interrogation

  12. Within a minute the lights and power return to the building. N97 leaves the device with Lt. Braxus and heads down the stairs to the location of the prisoner.

Awaiting orders he takes a stance in the middle of the hall a short distance down from the prisoners door.

To the Docter he replies via comlink, "Statement: Order received. Order Priority: Assist with interrogation per Leutenant Braxus, then inspect equipment, particularly in light of the discovered device."

  13.

Sorry, I am confused. What did our first check on the device determine? Does N97 need to do another knowledge underworld check since his first one was successful?

As I understand it the 4 threat meant that you mis identified the the device.

Success on a check is success for the primary reason for the check (hit target, climb rope, know something, etc). The threat comes as a modifier to the knowledge/additional negative consequences, or in the case of a knowledge check it could be missing key information or additional information about it that may be false/partially true. This is where player knowledge has to be tempered as the character believes everything he remembers to likely be true. In this case I was assuming he know what where it was from, since he used the term used was "provenance" which would be its origin. Perhaps put there by Black Sun but made by someone else. That means we may need to take a look inside as well. I will roll that up but will wait until good time IC (if we take the time) to pull it apart.

Here is a quote from the knowledge skill section of AoR Core: (the symbols didn't copy well, so I put in brackets with the symbol information)

"Additional [success] represent the character recalling information or completing research with remarkable haste, while [advantage] may be spent to learn minor but possibly information about the subject. [triumph] may be spent to learn relevant, beneficial information concerning the subject, perhaps an understanding of a beast's particular weakness in the case of Knowledge (Xenology), or information concerning the familial strife between crime syndicates in the case of Knowledge (Underworld). [threat] may be spent by the GM to allow him to omit a vital detail about the subject at hand, while [displair] may be used to seed the character with misinformation and outright falsehoods."

    Kymrel:

Since I was making this up I described it as a small black box with a few connections running into it.

    (Setback removed from Gearhead talent)

Mechanics - Inspect black sun box: 1eA+3eP+1eB+3eD 4 successes, 3 threat

It seems N97 likes the threat. Will wait to post about opening it up until things move along a little bit. I don't want to rush things too fast.
