Local tournamet list... Something different after Dash-fail
Heavyguard replied to JamoK's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Note that using Daredevil with Dauntless will leave you with 1 stress (or 2 if you didn't initially do a green maneuver or 3 if you have a critical hit turning maneuvers red) thus preventing Ysanne from activating in the combat phase. -
One small correction to this, the Top 4 with Luke and 5x Bandits was actually Luke (as shown) with 4x Tala and 1x Bandit. Playtested against him a few days before and by the end of the game everyone on both sides was stressed or had multiple stress on them.

One drop was a guy heading to work, and the other left after the 4th round going 0-4. The DQs were 1 missing the game start after the lunch break and the other guy left without informing the TO.
-
They are ranked as the winning builds. By looking at each event you can see what the reported top 2-4 builds where but not which ones one it. These are then ranked as to how often they appear.

What Keffisch said. Using EI prior to the combat phase will give you a stress token thus preventing Ysanne's free action (if it was free evade token that'd be different). However given that Ysanne gives a free 'Action' it can activate EI. As mentioned Gunner can be a bit much as well. Recon specialist will give you a 2nd focus to use for defense as well as one for attack once you have a TL. Dont forget to use you TL to re-roll blanks only then convert focus to the 1 crit (via pilot ability) and others to hit via token.

Dauntless will screw up your use of EI and Ysanne as well due to the stress. I've used the following build before to good effect, key is to note that your action sequence changes after you get your first damage card. Prior; Action -> EI -> Expose After 1st Damage card; Action -> Ysanne (at start of combat) -> EI -> Expose (otherwise you get stressed and Ysanne cant activate) Build was this; RAC + Expose + EI + Rebel Captive + Ysanne Whisper + IA + ACD + FCS + VI Switching out Whisper for Soontir; RAC + Expose + EI + Rebel Captive + Ysanne + Gunner(or Recon Specialist for a 2 pt initiative bid) Soontir + PtL + AT + Royal + SD or HU (or SU if you go with Recon Specialist for a 1 pt initiative bid)

With all those upgrades on there there thats a very expensive Vadar ship. I've used Expose + EI with Ysanne before to great effect on the RAC with a Whisper in support. The trick though is that your action sequence changes once you have that first damage card. Prior; Action -> EI -> Expose After 1st Damage card; Action -> Ysanne (at start of combat) -> EI -> Expose (otherwise you get stressed and Ysanne cant activate) Build was this; RAC + Expose + EI + Rebel Captive + Ysanne Whisper + IA + ACD + FCS + VI Switching out Whisper for Soontir; RAC + Expose + EI + Rebel Captive + Ysanne + Gunner(or Recon Specialist for a 2 pt initiative bid) Soontir + PtL + AT + Royal + SD or HU (or SU if you go with Recon Specialist for a 1 pt initiative bid) Heavyguard

My thinking is that if I was going against this, the Vadar shuttle is my 1st target.

an attempt at 2 imperial, feedback requested
Heavyguard replied to Frazio's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
If your using Oicunn to deal damage in addition to Vader drop the Gunner for an IA and EU. This will allow you to be ram other ships. On Kath dropping the HU and Ysanne for a Navigator and EU will also allow you to better position to use the Manger. -
New player looking for Imperial advice
Heavyguard replied to LordFajubi's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Soontir Fel comes with the base Interceptor. The Imperial Aces set however is very good to get. With it and the ships you already have you have start of a good fleet. Some good builds to try out; Decimator and Phantom Decimator and 2 Interceptors 2 Interceptors and Phantom A good Scum ship to pick up just because of the cards in it is also the Starviper. The autothrusters in it are basically automatically added to the Interceptors now days. -
Not exactly. When its time for Ysanne to kick in, you do NOT use Expose during the activation phase. Instead, you use EI off of the free evade action Yssane gives you at start of combat phase. To OP: as for the rebel 2 ship builds I really don't think either of those will work. Wedge is too squishy to survive generally, and you're making it even easier to kill him by using Expose. Predator is a far better upgrade for Wedge (or even push the limit if you haven't got a Defender). R2D2 is not enough to protect him in this list because he is so obviously the first target to go after and has no ability to tank or arc-dodge focus fire. Actually that wont work as Ysanne does not have the "Action:" header that is required to activate EI. Thus if your not using Expose + EI your carrying 7 pts that would give you no benefit after you've taken 5 damage. (Assuming that your using Ysanne once you have that 1st damage card)

This was pre-FAQ too (still have a week till its official! lol) and I had IA on there too however I rarely if ever faced anyone where it was of use.
-
Just a note about the Gunboat/Fel build; Expose & EI would prevent the use of Ysanne as you'd have a stress token and thus wouldn't be able to perform her free action. RAC with PtL, Gunner and EU is a fun one to run with a phantom or some TIEs

The last Tourney I was in I ran the following and typically didn't have any issues with Mines/Bombs or Darth Vader. Placed 4th out of 22. Biggest issue I had was with a stress shuttle w/ Fel & Turr as well. Soontir Fel (27) Push the Limit (3) Autothrusters (2) Turr Phennir (25) Veteran Instincts (1) Autothrusters (2) "Whisper" (32) Veteran Instincts (1) Fire-Control System (2) Advanced Cloaking Device (4) Total: 99 I havent faced IG88s yet but have seen Fel basically solo one before. And the Kath I've faced died quickly once the supporting ship where gone.

Question: Certain Ties, do they have a use?
Heavyguard replied to Lendosan's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
My local group has had an imperial player do really well with a 2 Defender build for awhile now. Placed 2nd or 3rd recently (out of 16) and was just out of the top 4 in another tourney too. -
Here's a similar list that I plan on trying out when my Imperial Aces shows up; Soontir Fel (27) Push the Limit (3) Stealth Device (3) Autothrusters (2) Royal Guard TIE (0) Turr Phennir (25) Veteran Instincts (1) Stealth Device (3) Autothrusters (2) Royal Guard TIE (0) Carnor Jax (26) Push the Limit (3) Stealth Device (3) Autothrusters (2) Royal Guard TIE (0) Total: 100 Gives you 2 PS9s so the enemy doesn't have just 1 to pick/plan against. Jax prevents the use of focus or evade tokens.

Practice with the ships and dials to get a feel for the maneuvers and how to predict or guess where you'll end up. Practice dodging around asteroids and such as well. I ran this build a few weekends ago at a Store Championship and placed 4th out of 22 players. "Whisper" (32) Veteran Instincts (1) Fire-Control System (2) Advanced Cloaking Device (4) Turr Phennir (25) Veteran Instincts (1) Autothrusters (2) Soontir Fel (27) Push the Limit (3) Autothrusters (2) Total: 99 Typically had Turr and Fel hunt down one target while Whisper arc dodged and picked away at another. In the round robin play I just lost to a stress shuttle build (also with Fel/Turr) and a Decimator/echo build.

Note that playing with a lot of the Imperial stuff you want to dodge that from arc on the bigger or turreted ships. This prevents the use of cannons such as the Mangler cannons. You don't want to go head to head and play chicken with them. Make use of the boost and/or barrel roll actions that the TIEs tend to have. As mentioned Autothrusters are great against turret ships. If more then one big ship focus on one at a time if you can or separate them if possible. Use the asteroids to your advantage - IE use them as cover, to force a large ship to hit/pass over them or to 'control' where the large ship can go. (Except for Dash cause he doesn't care about them) Some sample TIE Interceptors builds; (Can drop the Royal Guard title and Stealth Device on both if wanted/needed) Soontir Fel (27) - Always PtL if you can! Push the Limit (3) Autothrusters (2) Stealth Device (3) Royal Guard TIE (0) Total: 35 Turr Phennir (25) - Use the free Barrel roll or boost to arc dodge after attacking or to get out of range, behind a asteroid etc. Veteran Instincts (1) Autothrusters (2) Stealth Device (3) Royal Guard TIE (0) Total: 31

A warthog Y is basically the following; Syndicate Thug (18) Blaster Turret (4) Unhinged Astromech (1) BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0) Total: 23 Or for Rebel; Gold Squadron Pilot (18) Blaster Turret (4) R2 Astromech (1) BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0) Total: 23 Basically if gives you 2 attacks in one round (Primary then turrented weapon) however you are restricted to your primary firing arc only. If you go with the following you can push out a potential extra crits plus a re-roll on the Deci-Vadar. RAC + Vadar = 49 Fel + PtL + AT = 32 Howlrunner + Calculation = 19

I ran this on the weekend past at a Store champion ship. Went 3-2 in the round robin and placed 4th after the top 4 was done. Whisper w/ VI, FCS, ACD & IA Fel w/ PtL & Autothrusters Turr w/ VI & Autothrusters This was with the current cloaking rules but I would ditch IA next time as I didnt once have a use for it that would benefit me. My 2 losses were to a Decimator w/ Vader & Echo (Deci was dead at the end of it though) and to a Stress Shuttle with Fel & Turr as well (I had my Fel left alive and running around with both his shuttle and fel almost dead and having the Turrs take each other out in the 2 round) Also faced this build in the top 4 and focused on the shuttle quickly killing it but finally losing Fel in the end after 3-4 round of avoiding everything thrown his way with only 1 hull left.
