  1. At the risk of derailing this thread further, the one I can't return to from my childhood is SeaquestDSV. I loved that show growing up. Can't figure out why now, looking at the Netflix reruns. And it's doubly sad as Jonathan Brandis killed himself in the early 2000s.
  2. Love that paint job nonetheless, even if you exclude the wing graffiti. The flower-blossom/sun-burst look on the cockpit is fabulous.
  3. I've never seen this website, thanks PunningPundit!
  4. It's funny I always thought the police were there for that kind of thing, live and learn eh. Yeah, because police have a fantastic track record of taking women's claims of sexual assault and harassment seriously. What's amazing to me is that you cited the incident at the fraternity in Rolling Stone. I could add the old Duke Lacrosse scandal to the list. Sometimes the police have investigated men for what turned out to be false claims. But I think the media skews people's understanding of the numbers. I get police updates on my phone from my university (everybody does, they're called "timely warnings" so you can avoid an active shooter or whatever). I get 3-4 text messages per week reporting sexual assaults of the women on campus. Some are from strangers, many are in the dorms. Sometimes they even have explicit details like "alcohol was involved." They even go so far as to say whether or not police are investigating. In a given week, usually 3 of the 4 sexual assaults are not being investigated by police because the women in question chose not to press charges. There are a lot of reasons for this, but most just don't want their lives turned upside down by a police investigation which often, intentionally or unintentionally, blames the victim. For a recent public case of this take a look at Jameis Winston.
  5. I had not been wondering that, but thanks for putting it on my mental map. I can't make out the card on the very end of the card fan, but the words don't look like they would be 'Carrion Spike', even if that does look like it might be a title card. That the 'Carrion Spike' was the right size is certainly nice, however...it canonically had a cloaking device. I dunno if a huge ship with a cloaking device is necessarily a good idea... Yeah, I was thinking about that too. But it is a corvette, it's described as sleek and triangular, it is very in-keeping with the Raider in terms of my take of it from Tarkin. The cloaking device is a sticking point, but maybe not a huge one.
  6. Anybody else wondering if we'll see a Carrion Spike title for the Raider?
  7. I almost like that! Why didn't they do this? I mean, it has some issues, but those are largely related to polygon count. That could be cleaned up into something really cool.
  8. The A-Wing is smaller than the Y-Wing. The issue is that the A-Wing's canopy is mis-scaled in the original model. If you actually measure it, the canopy works out to being something like over ten feet long, which is a little excessive, in my opinion. Though, modern fighter canopies can be quite long as well, 8ft or so.
  9. The A-Wing is my favorite canon ship of all time. It's so well-designed and so beautiful. As a model though, I'll agree it leaves a little to be desired. I wish they could have done something cooler with the laser canons. They're so prominently placed, making them look meaner and more gun-like would have been nice.
  10. I think that more just proves my point. There's no reason to stick a ball turret where the K-Wing has one. It's ugly, it's not particularly functional, and it's weirdly balanced.
  11. If you look at the Wiki article, you can see the PB4Y Privateer, with a nose-mounted ball turret. Note that it isn't chin-mounted. Again, it is aerodynamic, and also functional in terms of its field of fire.
  12. Hmm, doesn't say anything about being able to fit a gunner inside of it, but I understand that for the sake that the K-wing had someone inside of it, you wanted to see on with a manned ball turret. I don't know where you're getting your info from, but the first definition you get from typing ball turret into google is this: A ball turret was a particular form of spherical-form, altazimuth mount gun turret, fitted to some American-built aircraft during World War 2. The ball turret's spherical shell accommodated the gunner together with his guns and sights; ammunition was fed in from the outside.
  13. It's actually not, and the Boeing example is a very good reason why. It's designed to be aerodynamic. Look at its placement. It is a compromise between aerodynamics, the mass of the object, and the goal of being able to shoot someone with a laser beam in multiple directions. The problem with the K-Wing is that there is no functional compromise, which mars the aesthetics. Also, they didn't find example of what I asked for. I asked for a ball turret that was chin-mounted. A ball turret is not the same thing as a ball-shaped sensor mount.
  14. For sure. I've been thinking about it. I wish I could fly my Dunelizards in tournaments with the Kihraxz cards.
  15. Firstly, FFG has a different Black Sun colour scheme to SWG, rather than white and orange (looks kinda ew in the screenshots I can find) it's stark white with black highlights and big Black Sun logos. Would that work that well on the Kihraxs? I guess they could make it work, but then they're changing its paintjob from SWG anyway. Secondly, Black Sun already have two ships in their paint job: the Z-95 and the StarViper. This brings the Hutt paint job ships up to two. Unfortunately that picture of the Dunelizard has caused me to notice something about its shape that I cannot unsee. Henceforth it is the Duneflyingratheadwithwings. It's even got the little nose and some teeth in its giant grinning mouth. I've always viewed the Dunelizard that way. That's why I like it so much! Though, my first thought was more crocodile, I'm not opposed to rat.
  16. That's because they picked the wrong galaxies fighter. Should have been the Dunelizard. I've avoided jumping in on this point because I suspect you're not likely to be persuaded, but here's the problem with the Dunelizard: to me, the model is too close to the Scyk. The miniatures on the tabletop are communicating important information about the capabilities of the ships in play--the pretty plastic bits give me information about the discrete game elements that are moving around. It's why you can look at a snapshot of a game and, without looking at the pilots and upgrade cards, have a pretty good idea how strong a list is and who's winning or losing. But if you have two miniatures that look too much like one another, you're distorting that signal. I don't want an X-wing-like ship that can be confused with a TIE-Interceptor-like one, so I think while the Dunelizard might have been a better choice as far as the in-game lore of Galaxies is concerned, the Kihraxz is a better choice for the miniatures game. I have both scyks and Dunelizards, and while they do have certain design cues which are similar, I'd view them as being about the same as TIE Interceptors vs TIE advanced. Both have ball cockpits, TIE wings, and their wings are bent. But there are also major differences. I get not wanting all Scum to look the same, but having the Hutt fighters would have given them some cool continuity in my opinion. Play Dunelizards on the table with Scyks, and if you still think they're too similar, let me know.
  17. Would have been sweet. They could have given it native mangler cannons or something.
  18. My shapeways Kimogila is a thing of such beauty. I really need to find the time to paint it.
  19. That's because they picked the wrong galaxies fighter. Should have been the Dunelizard.
  20. Yep, it's pretty huge. Also not a chin turret though.
  21. Except that the Rogues did fly E-wings during the Dark Empire comics, and since that was set after the X-wing series Horn would have been part of the squadron. It's therefore not outrageous that he gets to fly one here. There are many other pilots who have far slimmer justifications for being in the ship they're in. Corran's fellow E-wing pilot is actually a good one; he was a naval officer, not a pilot. There's nothing anywhere to indicate he ever flew any fighter, let alone the New Republic's most advanced one. This is true, but if ever there was a candidate for a custom X-Wing paint job, Corran Horn would have been it. He should have been in the Rebel Transport pack with his Green X-Wing as the alternate X-Wing scheme.
  22. Fractalsponge's assault gunboat is freaking gorgeous! Thanks for the heads-up on that one. I think that's the first gunboat I've ever seen that I really want to buy.
  23. That starship canopy was supposed to be metaphorical? Crap...
  24. No surprise there. He sells merchandise like hotcakes.
  25. Enjoyed that behind the scenes look, though I never played Galaxies.
