  1. Nah, it was actually a pretty amusing write-up and didn't contain any exclusionary language. I think we're good to go here. Carry on with the Sir Mix A Lot...
  2. The choice to land on a golf course was a good one, because it's one of the few places in California that's clear enough for a landing. The pictures look rough, but well-flown. It's a shame to see that happen to what looks to be a Ryan PT-22 Recruit, as those are great old birds, but 1930s aircraft don't always have all the modern safety features and so crashes of these classic planes are not as uncommon as we might like them to be. It sounds online like he's doing all right, which I'm glad to hear. Crashes in old aircraft can be extremely nasty. Over the last couple of years we've lost several warbirds and their pilots, including that horrific incident at Reno just a couple of years back. So, anyway, best wishes for his speedy recovery.
  3. I actually think a better use for missiles would be to give missile ordinance cards in the game unlimited range. Then people might actually use them. That's more in keeping with how they are used in the X-wing games, and in real-life encounters. They're the long arm of the fighter, so to speak. I think that would be an interesting change in game dynamics. Maybe require you to get a target lock first (say at range 3), but if you leave range 3 you can still shoot. Or just let them fly, either way.
  4. I have a friend who prints them out because he works at a printing shop. Really good quality, any image you want, 10 bucks each. Some of the hubble deep field pictures he uses are so amazing when there are X-wings and TIE interceptors sitting atop them.
  5. My vote would be inside, closer to the engine, but I bet it could look good either way. Maybe mock each one up, take a pic, and then post them so we can see what you're talking about exactly.
  6. for the same reason we hear sounds in space and Tie Fighters get those massively cumbersome, peripheral vision blocking panels it's ******* cool! I actually cover this in a fanfic I wrote with the idea of a helmet-mounted display which enables you to see the outlines of other ships projected inside your helmet, so you can still see them when they're behind the panels (which are not visible anyway, because the cockpit only has a front windscreen, a rear porthole (useless) and a grated top hatch). If a new X-wing game ever comes out for PC, I hope that's how they'll do it, otherwise using TrackIR or Oculus Rift in a TIE fighter is going be a real pain.
  7. I never understood the appeal of 40K personally. I just don't much care for the sort of sci-fantasy style of it. I like my war-games historical and involving airplanes if at all. X-wing is my one exception because starfighters are basically airplanes that are made cooler with laser beams. Also, I suck at modeling and painting (I was too busy slapping them together to re-enact dogfights to actually paint them, that or playing flight sims), so having them already painted and assembled is pretty much a must-have feature for a game as far as I'm concerned. Though, hiring people to repaint them also appeals.
  8. I suspect this is a tempest in a teacup. Sure, the rules will need to be fixed, but I've not met an X-wing player thus far who would try to use something like this to gain an unfair advantage. Maybe I've been incredibly lucky with the players I've met, but I suspect not. Most people are looking to play fairly, and would prefer to beat an opponent's build on its best day, when it is well-flown, than winning by unfairly handicapping it.
  9. That's not bad, but it doesn't quite have the lines of the Hutt fighters from MandalMotors. Definitely going to be exciting to see what they put in the new waves. I really like the way the Scum faction is shaping up. I'm going to have to make myself a beat-up space pirate fighter jacket now to match my BSG and my TIE interceptor. Maybe I'll get a big Mandalorian emblem airbrushed on the back or something.
  10. Sorry to say I'll be missing the tournament at I'm Board. Something came up. But good luck to everyone making the trip, it'll be a ton of fun.
  11. Which is why you got five Scyks... Precisely. Though I still want a Dunelizard so badly. Can't wait till my Mel's mini comes in the mail in a week. If an official one is not in Wave 7, I'll be sad. I bet we do get it, with other Mando-Hutt ships. That would be so sweet. If we get Kimogilas and Dunelizards both, I'm going to go freaking bankrupt. I definitely want to be able to run an all-Hutt squadron though, and then if we get Jabba's Star Jewel yacht, we'd be able to add that into the mix. So cool...
  12. I get the feeling that Armada fills this niche far better than it could be filled in a standard game of X-wing. What I think we will see, is a few crazy people playing Armada and then resolving starfighter battles with X-wing matches.

  14. I've managed to resist Age of Sails. The main reason I'm here though is that nobody plays Wings of War/Wings of Glory where I live. I love those games, and have played them for years, but X-wing is a much bigger community, and I have to admit I like the addition of the pilot and upgrade cards (though I saw that as a major turn-off, and it kept me away from X-wing for years initially, as I thought it polluted the purity of aerial combat tactics). Now, I think the pilot cards and upgrades add a lot of spice and variety, and who doesn't love collecting aces? Wings of Glory didn't even have any special pilot abilities and I still got 3 copies of Lily Litvyak (first and highest scoring female ace ever).
  15. An make Kath the only pilot in the game with a pilot ability that was physically impossible to use? It's not physically impossible. The rules say primary weapon, but she can equip secondary weapons, so the secondary weapon can then fire out the rear arc, right? Or am I reading that wrong? None do, at the moment, but maybe a future-released secondary weapon could? In any case, Kath's ability would obviously still apply to the 'Hotshot' blaster, so it's not true to say it's "physically impossible to use" Ah, I see. That makes a mistake far more likely.

  17. For me it's more like 40% Scum, 30% TIE interceptor, 30% A-wing.
  18. Unless they intended to remove that ability in exchange for the different pilot abilities of the scum pilots?
  19. Speaking of RPGs, has anybody mingled X-wing miniatures with Star Wars RPGs yet? Years ago, before this game came out, my brother wanted me to play a Star Wars tabletop RPG with him, and I told him quite adamantly that I wouldn't play unless I could be a pilot and use my Wings of War maneuver cards with Star Wars miniatures to have tabletop dogfights at some point in the game. He caved, and I played a Star Wars minis game years before Star Wars minis. But I liked the feel it gave of the game meaning something more than purely competitive tournament-based stuff. I think there's a lot of room for this game to grow in that direction if people want it, maybe even pairing with something like Imperial Assault.
  20. Same here. Even as a kid when the original films had the world excited... you know I always loved the mean'ish Han in the first two films, and all of the scummies he dealt with. SCUM Rocks! For me, I wasn't born yet when the original trilogy finished its run, but I grew up with the films, and I especially grew up with the X-wing and TIE fighter video games. I'm a crazy flight simulator geek/military aviation fanatic, and I was so hooked on those games it wasn't even funny. Then, right about the time I hit middle school, Stackpole's X-wing books started coming out, and I devoured those while playing similar missions in the games. It was a fun time to be into that kind of thing. So, while I loved playing the Rebels, and then TIE fighter made me love playing the Imperials even more, I was always attracted to the Z-95 Headhunters and the scummy side of space. And then a whole series of space combat sims, including X-wing alliance, hooked me even harder on the notion of running my own space pirate gang. Then, enter stuff like Dark Forces, Star Wars galaxies, etc, and the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars world became super appealing. So, I love the Scum miniatures, and think they may be my preferred faction.
  21. You put up some of the coolest nerd-porn on this forum.
  22. I love the most wanted pack. I was originally going to run the scyks, but those Y-wings with the A4 and the ion turret are such fantastic little jousters and controllers. I don't know that I can easily give them up. I had planned to run some TIE interceptor builds for the store championships this month, but I think it's going to be 2 Syndicate Thugs with A4 and ion turret, and 3 cartel spacers with mangler cannons. It's just such a versatile build, and the ships are so cute.
  23. Super pretty! I love the decals idea. Very clever.
