Totally off-topic, but I just wanted to say I find the image of Biggs walking the hogs hilarious every time I see this thread title.

I like this, though hilariously it turns the X-wing into the B-wing and leaves the B-wing as the X-wing. how? the B-wing keeps its durability and flexibility and the X-wing gains neither (it gets a new kind of flexibility by being able to equip torpedoes that are priced not to suck ass) I just mean, as a girl who has played X-wing (the computer game) since the day it came out, and had all the expansions, and TIE fighter with all the expansions, and X-Wing vs TIE fighter, and X-wing Alliance, and who read every Rogue Squadron novel, I have certain expectations for how these ships actually behave. The B-wing should be less maneuverable than the X-wing. In the miniatures, it is more maneuverable. The B-wing should have a much heavier torpedo payload than the X-wing, but this modification would turn the X-wing into the torpedo carrier. In a very real sense, this change would make the X-wing more similar to the "real" B-wing and the B-wing much more similar to the "real" X-wing.

Not a new faction thread, but a trend noticing thread.

Nothing stopping you from doing paint schemes that highlight this so that when you and a friend go at it for fun, you've got Black Sun and she's got the Zann Consortium. Then you'd have your gang war in space. If you do it though, take pics. I'd love to see a Zann Consortium paint scheme and a whole bunch of black-sun themed ships beyond the Z-95. -
Totally crazy and unlikely, but what if the X-wings got some sort of title which would give you the ability to legally swap out your mods and EPTs at the start of a game, so that in a tournament scenario you could tailor your X-wing for your opponent? This would highlight the X-wing's strengths as a versatile, multi-role fighter, though it wouldn't change the power of it.

To be honest, I was glad to be rid of the Otana by the time I beat the Azzameen family quest line. I was just itching to get back in the cockpit of an A-wing.

So... the TIE/D, Z-95, Decimator and HWK are now canon.

Which makes FemTroopers official canon, BTW. I was wondering recently about how FFG's games fit into the current "canon policy". They certainly seem to be sticking with a certain group of stuff (which I would interpret as the most "mainstream" of EU) in terms of characters and ships, but it occurred to me that some of these things could now be "official" again. I played the old WEG roleplaying game waaaaay back, so I'm happy to see things like the Z-95 and VSD, and I'm sure fans of the various video games feel the same about the Defender or Phantom. But Mara Jade? That's huge, isn't it? I know she must be pretty high on the popularity scale, but that's acknowledging the Zahn books. Or maybe it's no different than Farlander or Fel? - H8 What is a FemTrooper? -
Might want to fix the typo in the word "designers" in your first line. Edit: Left alone that sounds kind of bitchy even when I read it. I just know it's frustrating to have a typo after going through all that work, so I figured I'd send you a heads-up. Good Q&A though.

I know I already said this, but since I can't like it twice, I have to say - that TIE fighter is GORGEOUS. I'm in awe. Every time I look at it, another little detail catches my eye. And, as oneway said, the battle damage is incredible.

OMG! I would kill for those Blue Angels X-wings!

There's any number of things you could do to give the X-Wing the little boost it needs to be on par with the new ships.A extra hull or an extra shield, a barrel roll or a boost, a extra defense die, ect... Any one thing would be all it needs IMO.But the problem is, that since the X-Wing is already a bit overpriced, I don't think spending even more points on it it is a good answer, but a discounted mod slot lets you fix it how ever you wish and makes it a lot more versatile ship... which fits the overall theme of the X-Wing in the first place. Exactly what I was saying! This seriously might just be the way to go! I agree. It also dovetails very nicely with my point about the X-wing having traditionally been the ship that was designed to tackle any mission, while as a base ship it wasn't necessarily designed for any one mission specifically.

Is putting barrel roll on an X-wing going to change anything? If B-wings are more desirable than X-wings, surely that won't change just by giving the X-wing the barrel roll. It still doesn't have the durability or heavy weapons performance of the B-wing, and the cost is still fairly similar. I still think the problem is that the B-wing was not designed properly, but I agree that changing the B-wing is a non-starter. It isn't going to happen, and I too think it is a very cool and versatile ship in the game (even if that coolness and versatility makes very little sense regarding what it was originally intended to be). The X-wing's versatility, in my opinion, is rooted in its ability to do a number of things well, but none of them as well as other ships. It's the jack of all trades, master of none, of the Rebel Alliance. Not as fast as an A-wing, nor as agile, not as hard-hitting or with the payload of a B-wing, it's the ship that balances those things to give you the best opportunity for success when facing an unknown threat. Let's face it, if you're going up against TIE interceptors, you want to be flying an A-wing, if you're going up against heavy freighters, you want a B-wing. The X-wing, in the games and the novels and the movies, splits that difference, giving you something that can do any job, albeit not quite as well as a specialist. The trick then, I think, is improving the versatility of the ship in regard to its ability to take on mission parameters, without necessarily buffing the movement or the armor. So, the ideas looking for a title card to give it some additional abilities I think are the right way to go. That or something regarding the astromechs.

That is, without doubt, the coolest TIE fighter I've ever seen in my life.

Love those Z-95s, particularly the pirate!

Actually, that may be an A-7 Corsair II, hard to tell at this angle. Nonetheless, cool plane. In fact, the overall shape and the USAF markings make me pretty sure it's the A-7.
-
That plane is the F-8 Crusader, the last of the Gunfighters. I have decals on my car, making it look like a VF-111 F-8 Crusader. So far, I only have the roundels, I'll be adding the shark's mouth and the rising sun tail flash to my trunk next month.

Devastator sucked, Avenger rocked. Helldiver sucked the absolute most, but had a sweet name.
-
I think your build is the one I'm going to roll with, now that I've learned how to count. The combination of high-agility cannons and hard-hitting Y-wings is really powerful.

I think the real problem is actually the B-wing being pretty screwed up in terms of its dial and its action bar. The B-wing has very tight turns, which, if you go by the logic I posted earlier in this thread, it shouldn't have. And, looking at other dials, the thoughts I had on how dials SHOULD look, were actually closely followed by the designers - up until the B-wing. So, the B-wing has the ability to turn way too tightly for a ship of its size, and it can barrel roll. Now, the B-wing is a very cool ship, and people who fly it are awesome, but if you want to differentiate the X-wing as the mainline rebel starfighter, the problem is less the X-wing itself than the B-wing, I think.

You're not the only one who can't read. I apparently played a 106 point squad the other day, blissfully unaware of my sins. No wonder it kicked so much ass

By my math, the Syndicate Thug + Ion Turret + A4 = 23 points. Two of them is 46 points. That leaves 54 points. 54 divided by 3 is 18, so you can have 3 18 point ships. Yeah, I've screwed this up. Back to the drawing board. Though you can get 2 manglers with 1 naked. Or you can run 3 flechettes.
-
Similar to what I run, but I drop some upgrades to get three spacers with Manglers instead of 2, and keep the 2 syndicate thugs with ion turrets and A4 upgrade. I guess I'm going by the 'more ships beats more upgrades' line of thinking, though I'm not sure how true that is.

The bounty hunter ships certainly look awesome. I think the sheer variety of beat-up nasty ships has got to be the main allure of the Scum as a faction (and hence why the StarViper is the only scum ship I don't much care for). Sure, the Imperials get their sleek, mass-produced murder machines, and the Rebels get their rough and ready starfighters, but there is nothing quite like a bunch of Hutt fighters and a Firespray, or running with something like Slave II or Punishing 1. Though, I'd use the "Enkidu" title for my Slave II if I had one.
