if you send me the CT data, I can render a 3D model with it and print out exact copies of your dice on a 3D printer, including the exact location and configuration of the air pocket(s).

Myth, fiction or Endangered Species... women and x wing
Nightshrike replied to Hexdot's topic in X-Wing Off-Topic
I think part of it may be down to introversion/extroversion too. Boardgamers and wargamers tend to be introverts as a rule, and I feel like women are less likely to be introverts, and when we are, it is less socially acceptable for us to be extremely introverted. I think this may make it more likely for women to become involved in "party" type games than serious hard-core boardgames. I've actually hated boardgames most of my life, unless they have a very strong social component, and I have a lot of friends who feel the same way. Honestly, I have more fun having a conversation with somebody than playing a boardgame with them 99 times out of 100. X-Wing is different for me because I love tactical simulators of all varieties, and I love starfighters. Girls are not generally raised to love technological objects in and of themselves, so even girls who do have predilections towards them aren't able to pursue them. I will say though, that despite the appeal of ships I like, pilots I like, and tactical simulation, X-Wing has some turn-offs for me. The major one is the current 100 point tournament format. I don't find random 100 point games to be that appealing. If I'm going to take the time to play a game, I want something more than the goal of beating somebody else. I'd like something potentially cooperative, something with more of a goal in mind, something that builds organically over time, something that forces social interaction. I have much more fun playing games which force social interaction than I do playing games which allow you to just stare at your dials, roll your dice, and grunt at your opponent. In fact, though I've been a very enthusiastic consumer of X-Wing plastic spaceships, I'm kind of leaning towards not playing in tournaments anymore, because the Min-Max 100 point meta just doesn't appeal to me very much at all. I think that's a very "male" way to play with spaceships. -

I still think it's all down to how the game is played. I'm a competitive girl, I love miniature starfighters, but there are things about how X-Wing is played that turn me off. I think most other girls would be even more turned off as they lack my predisposition towards model airplanes and spaceships. -
Fixed.

BH Liddell Hart also wrote my favorite biography of Scipio Africanus, and JFC Fuller wrote my favorite biography of Alexander the Great. I read the heck out of those books growing up.
-
Yeah, and my mentor figure flew A-10s as well as F-16s, and it was required reading for both A-10 and Viper drivers. But I'm an air superiority kind of girl.

What's a corset ATC? Sounds kinky.

Love it! I'll print it out to use as my proxy prior to Raider release.

Tie advanced, now possibly the best ship in X-Wing?

Imperial girl list begun! -
The problem is that Vader's ability is great, but he's limited to the weird/bad Advanced dial. It's the only ship in the game that doesn't have access to either a 1-straight or a 1-turn. It's limited to a single K-turn choice, which helps make it predictable. It can't really slow-roll, but it's also not particularly fast. Juno has none of those issues. She has, quite literally, the best dial of any ship in the game, and she can adjust it on the fly. Her dial is so good, in fact, that it physically couldn't be printed: there are too many options. Vader is great for one reason, and Juno is equally great for an entirely different reason. This? Obviously you could replace Vessery with... a lot of things, at 36 points, but in this list he does something fun: your opponent can't really afford to either engage (because he'll just hit the gas and run while Fel and Eclipse tear things up) or ignore (because he's batting cleanup with 3 Attack and nearly guaranteed F+TL on Juno's target). ETA: It's not a list for Nightshrike, but it's one I'm planning to try out ASAP: Thanks! It'll give me the chance to use my defender for the first time ever.
-
Vader can't make 1-turns, or 1 straights, or 3Ks or 5Ks.
-
Vesserly. Someone has to use those target locks cluttering the board. I can't wait to see the defender fix. I might have to buy a Punisher to get that upgrade card. Thank god it's not packaged with the K-Wing.

Would it stack? Which would you have to do first? -

Super excited to try this build now. -
That'd be totally sweet. Too bad it's not happening, but I think having her come with her own maneuver templates would be a bit much - even for my fangirldom.
-
Doe this help you get over the wave 7 announcement? Absolutely. I won't be buying any of the wave 7 ships, but now I can buy the raider and focus on my Imps. I got badly distracted by the Scum, but now back to Imps.

Is it bad that I'm already waiting anxiously for the Juno Eclipse alt art card?
-
Yay for Juno Eclipse. I can't wait to buy my raider. She's definitely going to run in my imperial group, probably in conjunction with Soontir and something else. Anybody got any good list ideas?
-
I am in love with Juno Eclipse! So buying the raider. Can't wait.

Ah cool. I study violence and warfare through skeletal trauma and all my fieldwork has been battlefield and conflict archaeology. And I despise the R word. -
I'd edit that j***boo is a racist term for black people, i know your just repeating the name he says in the video but you never know who's gonna get a stick up their arse over stuff like that. Is it? I'd never heard that before.

Question: Star Wars trailer in front of Age of Ultron?
Nightshrike replied to Forgottenlore's topic in X-Wing Off-Topic
I saw Avengers and was okay with it. I wasn't that enthusiastic because it's kind of getting over-saturated. I did like Guardians of the Galaxy more, and I think most of my friends did too, but Avengers wasn't bad. Personally, I think the most recent Captain America flick was much, much better than Avengers. Yeah, you knew Cap wouldn't die, but it had a lot going for it. -
That's fair. And if Rudel had been a fighter pilot, I'd have held my nose and read his memoirs, but he was a ground attack pilot, so I was able to avoid it without feeling like I was missing out.

Darth Vader with Jake Loyd's voice. Amazing.

I think it's actually that at some point he thought the target audience for Star Wars is younger than it is. Or he wanted it to be appropriate for all audiences, or something along those lines. The changes he made are the changes my niece liked when she was 3, but which now at age 7 she realizes are a bit childish, and which she will find annoying by the time she turns 10.
