First off I take this statement as saying nothing in this wave is canon, but the Hound's Tooth is in TCW which is very much SW. Well, I don't actually hate the Hound's Tooth. I've been too focused on the K-wing. The TIE monstrosity is pretty bad too. The Kihraxz is a poor, poor decision. They absolutely should have gone with the Dunelizard or the Vaksai instead. Both way cooler, and the Dunelizard makes way more logical sense. Not sure why they made that call. The K-wing is the only one I truly despise with every fiber of my being. But I see no reason to purchase any of them. And I hate the K-wing so much I may just not play the game rather than see it on tables. The Interdictor makes sense actually. Dual bomb systems and dual missile systems. System redundancy. I'm not a huge assault whatever-boat fan, but the Missileboat would have been the right call in this instance, I think. As it is, the Interdictor doesn't make me cringe, I just don't much care for it. Then again, I didn't much like the original TIE bomber either.

That's called cancer. You should get it removed while there's still time.

That's hyperbole. If you can cut the plastic, it can be "saved". It would be easier to just start with a new ship from the ground up. Seriously, you'd have to do so much work it would probably be less intensive just to start over with plasticard or to make your own molds and cast your own ships, or to do Shapeways.

Well you couldn't have known they'd produce something that lame. Really, it's not your fault at all.
-
Thankfully there isn't a single Star Wars ship in the new release, so I don't have to worry about hating SW ships.
-
Voting with your wallets won't work in this case unless you do quit X-wing. Every ship you buy goes to the same place, so for every decent ship you buy, you subsidize the ones you hate. Plus, most people will want the cards enough to stomach buying ships they'll never fly (star viper anyone?). So, this is one of the few cases where voting with your dollars probably won't work a bit. And Hobo, I'm going to take you up on the moaning. Holy cow this was a horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible decision. I can't believe a design team actually agreed to produce a K-wing. The mind boggles.

Nope. It looks the part of a ship designed by a toddler lumbering across the table. The only thing that could possibly save this for me would be proxy ships from Mel's Miniatures, and that may not even be enough.

WWII bomber or A 10 Warthog. Perfect . Totally badass. Tie Scimitar would be better then Interdictor IMO. That looks nothing like either an A-10 or a WW2 bomber. Bombers from WW2 were logical in their layout. The A-10 is hyper-logical in its layout. The K-wing looks like an elementary school child's lego design.

I think they are more concerned about the players that would quit if they had to face anything prequel related. Yeah, well, some players are considering quitting over the K-wing. I certainly won't be playing in any more formal tournaments, as if someone put a K-wing across the table from me, I think I'd get up and leave.

The K-wing actually looks pretty good from WW's pics (thanks WW!), and you have to admit, that Interdictor still looks deadly. The K-wing doesn't look good. The scale of the model hides some of the most glaring of the errors in the design, but if you look at it closely, it's still got all of them. I can't believe anybody was crazy enough to make that for the game. There is so much better stuff out there it's not funny. I really want to believe that this wave is a joke and that they're going to take it all back in a few days.

Doesn't that Scum fighter look like your Dunelizard? No, the Dunelizard is actually pretty. And the Kirahz or whatever isn't even from the same company as the Scyk. It's not a Hutt fighter, it's one of the game's Black Sun fighters. And it's the ugliest of the bunch too. If they wanted to go with the Black Sun fighters, why not go with the Vaksai? It's way cooler looking and it featured in the card art for one of the other ships in the game already. But logically, with the paint scheme they chose, they should have gone with the Dunelizard, or if they wanted to give another large base to the scum, the Kimogila or M-22 Krayt. This decision, much like the K-wing, is really poorly thought out. Since I'm relatively new to the game, this is the first release I've seen where I've been a part of the game community. I have to say, I am incredibly disappointed in FFG. I certainly won't be buying any of these retarded EU ships, and possibly will be reconsidering my commitment to the game as a whole.

There is literally nothing that can be done to save the K-wing. It is, much like Homer's car, an Edsel. Except the Edsel was better-designed and better looking. I can't believe people are actually comparing it to a B-17. It's nothing like a B-17. The B-17 guns actually were placed in logical position with real fields of fire. And the chin turret on the B-17 isn't a ball turret, the ball turret is placed closer to the center of mass so the weight of it doesn't give the thing incredibly terrible flight characteristics. Those who compare it to the A-10 are ignoring 90% of the K-wing design, which includes two useless side-by-side cockpits, a third engine thrown on top for no reason, a rear gunner whose purpose seems to be to shoot his own engine, a chin ball turret which adds a horrendous amount of weight for zero functionality, and then two weird legs sticking off the wings because, hey, it had to look like the letter K!

I can't hit the "no" button enough to describe my thoughts on the K-wing. The TIE punisher looks way worse than an assault missile boat would have. The Kirahz or whatever is a very poor choice, particularly since they've given it the Scyk paint job like that somehow makes it related to the Scyk. It's not. It's a completely different company in the lore. They should have made either the Dunelizard or the Kimogila or the M-22 Krayt - probably the Krayt given their inexplicable decision to produce a K-wing. My hat's off to you, Spike. My love of this game is nowhere near sufficient to justify the purchase of a K-wing.
-
Well, it's good to know I won't need to make any purchases for the next few months from FFG at any rate.
-
A TIE with a chin turret wouldn't be able to shoot in all directions anyway - just forwards and backwards. Otherwise it would saw its panels in half.

It has the 3rd person option. There's sky battles if those count. Although if you want an up to date space sim X-wing Alliance's graphics update mod now works with the GOG edition. Though XWA with updated graphics is hardly an up to date space sim. I'm still waiting for a new X-wing or TIE fighter for the computer. It would make a killing, and if they improved the user interface and allowed things like head-tracking I'd probably never do anything else with my time.

I think wave 7 will be the TFA stuff, and that it won't be released and available until Christmas. I think Wave 8 will feature stuff from EU and possibly Rogue 1, or you can reverse those. Wave 9+, I don't even have an educated guess, but I would suppose by wave 10 we will either have prequel ships or they will never be released. Disney is releasing a Star Wars movie a year. It will be all FFG can do to keep up once that really gets rolling. So, my guess will be we will get them before wave 10 or not at all. Personally, I don't much care either way, I enjoy my Mel's minis N-1s and stuff, and if I want to home-brew things, I can.
-
If the game gets to Wave 10, I'm guessing that will be prequel ships.

I actually have no issue dogfighting in the atmosphere with Star Wars ships. If it's the Battlefield people, I'll be able to use stick and rudder, which will be great. Plus, think about using snowspeeders on Hoth versus TIE fighters. Could be super fun.

Is this going to be purely console-based?

Rotating pilots is something most air forces do/have done historically. Oftentimes pilots had a preferred serial number aircraft, but they often didn't always fly it. Even the ones with custom nose art were sometimes flown by other pilots in a pinch. The random rotation doesn't bug me much. Yes, planes have their idiosyncrasies, but these are not usually enormous, and they are oftentimes reported, so that a crew chief could impart this information to a different pilot. Alternatively, it is sometimes something that pilots discuss amongst themselves.

I think the crew requirement is a non-issue. Pirates and smugglers are clearly also taking freighters like the YT-1300, and patrol ships like Slave II, etc. The three-man crew on the ARC is hardly prohibitive. Plus, it seems like it might be easy to squeeze in some cargo capacity. It's also something that has the size to be highly modifiable with illicit weapons and upgrades, and it packs the punch necessary to quickly disable large freighters, which would be the real targets of most pirates.

Yes, and the 37mm was used in the air-to-air role by the Yak-9T as well as the P-39 Airacobra. However, there is no question whatever that low cyclic rate heavy cannons are much harder to aim in the air to air role against fighter-sized targets. The 20mm is not so low in cyclic rate, apart from maybe the early variants used by the Germans and the Japanese, but even then, they're quite a bit higher in cyclic rate than the Stuka's 37mm cannons. As to 30mm cannons being common air to air weapons, this isn't really the case. They were used by the 262 in small numbers, and by some numbers of 109s, but by and large the 20mm was the dominant air to air cannon in the war. As to what the ARC should be, its appearance is clearly based on the North American P-61 Black Widow. Its performance is probably closer to the 110 than the 410 or the HS-129.
