  1. Fantasy Flight Games was giving away glow-in-the-dark, gold, and silver minis as prizes for Twilight Imperium (Third Edition) tournament winners. In or around 2008 I played at Gen Con and came in first place and chose the glow-in-the-dark minis. Here is a picture: The Twilight Imperium (Third Edition): Shards of the Throne expansion came out in 2011, so my minis set doesn't include the extra minis like flagships or mechanized ground units. So, I can no longer use my trophy glow-in-the-dark minis when playing TI3. I asked, and FFG appears to have never produced flagships or mechanized ground forces in glow-in-the-dark, gold, or silver. I think the best (and least expensive option) would be to purchase another copy of Shards and just paint a set of four mechanized ground units and a flagship with glow-in-the-dark paint and then clear coat it to protect the paint and match the sheen of the other plastic pieces. I would then offer to sell the remaining seven sets of mechanized ground units and a flagship to others, either painted gold/silver/glow-in-the-dark or unpainted. That would help others that are in my position that have won a set of special gold/silver/glow-in-the-dark minis and can no longer use their trophy pieces because of the Shards expansion. I would then part out the rest of the Shards expansion either on BGG or on eBay. Anyone interested? If so, please post here: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/18487777#18487777 -J.C.
  2. Other than buying another copy of the game and painting the minis yourself, I don't think so. I think FFG was pretty conservative and only gave out those glow-in-the-dark, gold, and silver sprues of minis to people who placed in an official FFG tournament. So, if you see someone with a set of those gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark minis, you know you are playing with a ringer. -J.C.
  3. I'm in Medina, MN, USA and own the base game and both expansions. BGG: jchamlin. It looks like there's a weekly game of Twilight Imperium at FFGC Saturdays at 11:30am, and they welcome new players. I called and spoke with an employee at the FFGC, and he said it was a weekly event. Check out the calendar here: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/more/fantasy-flight-games-center/ I will be at FFGC this Saturday at 10am playing Advanced Civilization. I'll definitely drop by and check out the TI3 game, and then figure out how to come and play TI3 on a future Saturday. -J.C.
  4. I think I was the one that won in 2008 and picked the glow-in-the-dark minis. See here: That was, unfortunately, before the Shards expansion so I don't have a glow-in-the-dark flagship or mechanized ground forces so I can't use my trophy minis to play TI3 anymore. I asked FFG and it does not appear that they ever made Shards mechanized ground units or flagships in gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark. My solution to the problem of missing Shards units is to buy another copy of Shards and paint a set of the minis with glow-in-the-dark paint. If you are interested in getting a set of Shards pieces (optionally painted gold, silver, or glow-in-the-dark) to complete your trophy mini set please post here: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/18494638#18494638 -J.C.
