  1. I, as well, am looking for a TIE Advanced with a TIE Defender. Here is what I've come up with for that pair. I like your idea but I think it's 3 "glass canons" similar to the 3 Imp Aces. That's why I added the Doom shuttle to add a little synergy with the Mangler and ATC.

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35
    Veteran Instincts 1
    "Mangler" Cannon 4

  2. Ok, critique welcome, I think I've melded together something I like:

    Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

    Ion Cannon Turret (5)

    R3-A2 (2)

    BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

    Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

    Tactician (2)

    B-Wing/E2 (1)

    Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

    Tactician (2)

    B-Wing/E2 (1)

    Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

    Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

    Total: 99

The first thing that comes to mind is "Why a single Ion Turret to battle large bases?". I like the build idea, just not sure about the usefulness of a single Ion turret.

I've been toying around lately with BBBB-Ion and that tends to do pretty well against large base 2-ship builds. I've also been toying with BBBBZ, BBBB with FCS or AC. It's a lot of HP for 2 ships to chew through so it provides more opportunity to get your strategy going.

  3. Just for fun, not very competitive, but a good challenge. TIE Fighters for swarm strategy and learning formation flying. The Interceptors will help you learn positioning and anticipating where others move in certain situations.

This will provide you, a new player, the experience you need. It will also prevent you being the new guy who shows up with the Fat Han build, like chubby09 said. Also, Dagonet is correct. Fly what you know to win. I'll add, fly what you don't know to learn more!

  4. This is popular around here and puts in some work. Makes it tough to get past. The strategy that I've seen is Soontir slow plays to let RAC engage and wear down the opponent's ships then Soontir cleans up late-game, as he usually does.

  5. So I have been doing a lot of testing with this list and Ill be taking it to a Regional this weekend.

    IG88-B (49)

    Aggressor (36), Predator (3), Advanced Sensors (3), “Mangler” Cannon (4), IG-2000 (0), Autothrusters (2), Inertial Dampeners (1)

    Boba Fett (50)

    Firespray-31 (39), Veteran Instincts (1), Gunner (5), Inertial Dampeners (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

So far it is extremely strong and can stand up to most meta builds. Dual IG with HLC suck if they roll hot in the first round but otherwise are manageable. Deci + X doesn't really pose a problem. Corran/Dash/Han/Chewie is a winnable game if not easy. Biggest issue will be control lists which will limit mobility.

Ill let you guys know how the tournament goes and any follow up thoughts I have on the build.

I played a similar list in my local regional last weekend. It does very well except for YYYY ion build. You have to really do exceptional flying to keep out of range on the 4 Y-wings and if\when you get ion'd, you have to capitalize with the other ship, big time.

    Good luck!

  6. I like this idea but where you'll struggle is BBBBZ (or it's variants), x4 Hogs, Super Dash, and even Dual FireSprays. You're basically putting 48pts into a self-destructing ship. Further, the two Sabers are PS4, so they will move first and with their low HP, they will go down fast.

I play a Boba\IGB list lately and I would just target the x2 Sabers almost instantly, then on to blow up the 48pt exploding mass. Granted, Vader always does good work, but with the IG at Range 3 with HLC, I'd chew through that thing pretty quick.

Lastly to Panic217, yes, Vader triggers twice if Gunner is used.

  7. I've been wondering about how to best counter Fat Han, Super Dash, and RAC. Those seem to be the big challenges. I have also been looking at how to build a good Scum list. Furthermore, I've been looking to use Fett.

You, sir, have my thanks. I like where this list is going. I'm going to graciously steal this one!

  8. Since day 1 I've always liked flying Interceptors, Phantoms, and something else. Unfortunately, points almost always requires it be the Lambda. Fortunately I've also always preferred Echo over Whisper because of the movement possibilities, 6 vs 3. Post Phantom change, I think Echo it even more favorable. Granted, against PS10 builds it can be tough but I've found that being at range 3 with an evade token does pretty well.

That being said, this is the list that isn't 100% "meta" but is a blast to fly. Good luck!

Soontir Fel — TIE Interceptor 27
    Push the Limit 3
    Autothrusters 2
    Targeting Computer 2
    Royal Guard TIE 0

    "Echo" — TIE Phantom 30
    Veteran Instincts 1
    Fire-Control System 2
    Rebel Captive 3
    Advanced Cloaking Device 4

    Omicron Group Pilot — Lambda-Class Shuttle 21
    Flechette Cannon 2
    Darth Vader 3

  9. The trouble I've had with any Decimator build is if you go up against any build with 4+ ships you will get destroyed. I played a similar list with a friend against a 4-TIE w 2-Int build. I couldn't get past turn 6. We played 4 games because we thought maybe it was a fluke or something.

It does REALLY well against 2-3 ship builds. The only 2-3 ship build that I've had issues with is the Wookie Bus.

Don't get me wrong, it's REALLY fun.

  10. So Manglers are pretty good on Firesprays? If you were to choose between a mangler or HLC which would you take?

Manglers are great on anything with a higher PS. You want the lower PS pilots to strip off the evade tokens and shields. Two ships with re-rolls firing Mangler canons closer to the end of a game is a closer. Add on that Calculation and you can get some serious damage.

Strategy is to go through initial attacks at range 3 so they don't get the extra defense die and you do. Next, either get them with Kath's phat booty or Mangler them with both ships again.

If you're fighting a swarm, you will need to kill 2 ships every 3 rounds. Preferably 1 ship per round.

On the Fat Han builds, do your best to isolate Han's wingman in 1-2 rounds with focus fire. If it's Coran, all the better. Then focus fire Han.

The biggest threat here is Chewy for obvious reasons. Another threat is a Fat Han with mini-swarm. Giving Han 2-3 rounds of attacks or a swarm 2-3 rounds of attacks is a challenge. You'll have to get creative with your flying.

  11. Isn't that Imperial only?

Yes, Rebel Captive is Imperial Only.

I've had great success with two dual Firespray lists.

    Imperial:

    Bounty Hunter — Firespray-31 33
    "Mangler" Cannon 4
    Gunner 5
    Engine Upgrade 4

    Kath Scarlet — Firespray-31 38
    Lone Wolf 2
    Heavy Laser Cannon 7
    Rebel Captive 3
    Engine Upgrade 4

    Scum:

    Kath Scarlet (Scum) — Firespray-31 38
    Calculation 1
    "Mangler" Cannon 4
    Recon Specialist 3
    Inertial Dampeners 1
    Engine Upgrade 4

    Mandalorian Mercenary — Firespray-31 35
    Lone Wolf 2
    "Mangler" Cannon 4
    Recon Specialist 3
    Inertial Dampeners 1
    Engine Upgrade 4

The general goal is to fly both of them spread out. Typically I'll start one of them in the middle and the other on one side. That allows Lone Wolf to be relevant for at least 3-4 rounds. The Recon Specialist with Calculation and a Mangler Canon can do some serious damage with both ships focus firing. The other side is that many people worry that Recon and EU conflict, and in fact, they play off each other well. It allows you to choose and keep the opponent guessing. With the K4\PTL combo, it is nearly 80-90% a give away how you'll be required to move.

I've defeated a named TIE swarm, a Fat Han & Coran (multiple times), and even a Soontir & Whisper list. The only time I've lost, in fact, is when I was relatively new and did an EU without thinking that my next move would fly me off the board. Oh well.

Base on your meta, if you have a lot of stress\control builds, then this may not work as well. Lone Wolf will still be relevant. It would also make the Imperial list better with Rebel Captive.

    Just my experience. Good luck!!

  12. I believe that the squad would be extremely fun. The issue I run up against is time\damage output. It seems like every time I fly an interceptor\advanced squad I can either do one of two things: Fly around and play the chase game to wait for the occasional chance to shoot while outside of the opponents arc OR take the chance and apply offensive pressure and HOPE that the green dice don't hate me that day.

The dice are statistically geared for slightly more damage vs defense. So having an entire squad with only 10 hit points and 2-of-10 shields make you VERY susceptible to crits. Specifically the 2-damage card.

That all being said, it is a LOT of fun flying these glass-canon aces lists! I do it from time to time just to work on maneuvering practice.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes!!

p.s. To point re-iterate what USCGrade90 said, the TIEx1 and ATC cards aren't out until the Imperial Raider hits. So you could only run the list in casual.

  13.

I've always found mauler lackluster, which is sad because I love the idea of him. I would consider trading him back down to another academy, which frees up 7 points to kit Rexler out a bit better with HLC or some subset of upgrades like engine and predator or predator and a control cannon.

I was typing pretty much this exact thing. Rexler is very low benefit without some kind of predator\re-roll. Mangler also works well if you don't end up with enough points for HLC. I would go HLC with Predator.

    That's my go-to Rexler build, but at 47 points you can't actually fit howlie+3 academies in 100 points (it's 101 :'( )

    No one would notice! heheh

  15. What do you mean by tournament confirmation?

Your post 3 levels up said "If anything will change I will update everyone. I am talking with the owner tomorrow and will have more details then." I was just curious if you spoke to the owner and if you have any new information or simply a confirmation that the tournament is 100% a go.

Thank you for keeping up on the forums.

  16. First, I'm assuming this is a casual list since TIE/X1 and ATC aren't released yet.

I would agree with JFunk about the shuttle. You may want to look into Recon Specialist on the shuttle or even Mangler Canon with the addition of Engine Upgrade on Vader. EU on Vader is insanely good. It almost puts him at the evasive level of Fel.

Overall it looks like a very fun list. I have one similar, but I use Echo in place of Whisper because I like the movement options for decloak and the extra 2 points.

    Good luck!
