Malev Da Shinobi got a reaction from Gordo Cambo in [Painting]General Weiss completed.
Peace everyone, first off sorry for the massive photos. I need to get a little nicer with the resizing..

I wanted to share my General Weiss, painted on commission for a large IA set. Was really a fun model to paint, and after painting the original one from the core, i certainly suggest that you never glue your at-st.. (maaaybe the legs)
I think in the end breaking it down can be extremely useful.

And detail shot of the base.

Appreciate you taking a peek, happy painting and gaming everyone.

I'm confused. You want to support X-wing, but don't want to pay 30$ for a pack of three ships? You want to buy a separate Damage deck, but not from someone on eBay (who presumably got a Core set, so supporting FFG)?

MM and CSI have the Core Sets for $26.99!!! Even if you pay the flat rate shipping of $5.95, it's still less than $33!!!
If you are a bigtime tournament player, how many tournaments do you play in during the course of a year? How much do you spend on entrance fees? How about food on tournament days? Travel costs? How many hours do you play during all this? $33 is chump change in the grand scheme of things and if this cost is split per hour, its miniscule!
Personally, Im tired of seeing the WHINING about "HAVING" to buy the new Core Set!! If its that big of an issue, stop playing in tournaments and play casually only with what you currently have, no more cash outlay!!! Nothing more to buy, and no more entrance fees, etc!!! Look at all the cash you'd save. And if its really an issue of money, quit playing altogether and SELL all your XWing miniatures and you'll be rolling in dough!!!
Then you can buy a $27 Core Set and start all over with just what you want....
    JMHO!!!

as to "Also, what if Adv. Was put in because Advanced was too long? Anyone consider the graphic design part of the card layouts?"

it could have been the Tie Advance v1 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/TIE_Advanced_v1) just as Vader is the Tie Advance x1

"Tie Advance v1" we know already fits on the card and is eligible for the Tie/x1 title

In fact, the Tie Advance v1 is actually more true to lore than "Tie Adv. Prototype"

but that's not what the ship is defined as, is it?

it's almost like they needed it to be defined as something else for some reason...

again, doesn't matter that Adv. = Advance to us. On the card, it does not contain the entirety of the words "Tie Advance" and is therefore not eligible for the Tie/x1 title.

The Tie/v1 title, however, is Tie Adv. Prototype Only. Why? Because Tie Advance Prototype only would make it illegal on the ship it was supposed to come with.

and tbf, the epic ships kind of are second rate

they are a product for the secondary game that isn't considered the standard and they're not allowed in standard play

imo, that is actually the best explanation as to why the Raider's titles are borked.

Well no one says the Raider shouldn't be allowed to equip its titles and I would seriously doubt anyone would want to enforce that if they expect to keep their playing group. Some of us, me included, do however point out, that technicaly the Raider equipping its titles is illegal if you follow the rules from the new core set word by word, and we expect FFG to errata the Raider titles to clear this up. Rules as written should always equal rules as intended and FFG should work on that.

I read the rules and come to my understanding of those rules and think "Ah, that makes perfect sense."

Then I come here and read all of the ways peoples try and out-interpret whats written and then I just feel confused again.

Maybe I rely to much on 'logical interpretations' of what the designers intended.. like, Of course these upgrades can go on the 'Aft' section of the raider, even if they included the extra word 'section'.

The card has a front section, and a back section. Just because it doesn't say 'section' on the card - doesn't mean that it's not a section.
The desire for literal translation of every single naming convention makes me straight up scratch my head.

Hope this sort of thinking doesn't translate into other areas of life.....

edit: as a reply, rather than adding a new post, I just want to clarify, my example of the 'aft' vs 'aft section' is just an example explaining how i interpret those 'conflicts', not that anyone is really interpreting those cards specifically.

I am going to lay out an argument for why this is actually a very elegant fix for the T-65. I feel like integrated astromech accomplishes two simultaneous fixes, one mathematical and one thematic.

First the mathematical component. While I am the first to point out the limitations on Mathwing, the process has merit. I will reference Major Juggler here, as he is the expert. Major Juggler made this argument about the X-Wing back at the end of last year (December 04, 2014) on a Team Covenant Blog:

They actually only need about +1 cost, with +1 hull. This would simultaneously made them worth taking, while preventing 5 in a list. This would have repercussions on the B-wing later, which would need an additional durability boost and cost tweak to make it thematically more in line with the X-wing.

Integrated Astromech accomplishes exactly this with a 1 point astromech, even if you never use the astromech's ability. Mathematically, the X-Wing now has the jousting value that it needs. While it does lose the astromech to access that last ability, that is only if the one point of pseudo-hull is going to save your ship.

Thematically. In the fluff, X-Wing's always have their astromechs. I have always been bothered by how few of them see regular play. This fix incentivizes players to bring an astromech on their T-65 without going the route of a cost reduction to field them. Now X-Wings are able to get the jousting values they need while increasing the thematic inclusion of astromechs.

    Well done FFG.

I was just looking at it, and noticed that it's 0 points..

So I mean, it will pretty much never hurt to throw on. I don't see it as a 'fix' but I do think it would add some viability, potentially at a key moment in the fight that may actually mean winning or losing.

So in that way, I can see it's value - and I quite like it. It will be a very 'desperate' ability that thematically mirrors what I was feeling while watching the Rebel Fighters during the movies, they're going to have to resort to measures that are less than desirable to get the job done.

It's neat. I'll give it that, I still want to see Rebel Aces 2 with more goodness though.

Much like the IG-2000 title, it may have a 0 pt cost on the card, but there is an actual cost. You have to include at least 1 pt in Astromech upgrades. It's not a bad cost, sure. Especially if you are using a cheap astromech. But, there is still a cost.

Most annoying that the T-65 'fix' ships in the T-70 blister, and there's only one of them.  I'm really not going to go run out and buy four T-70s so I can strengthen a T-65 swarm.

(That it is supposed to be the X-Wing 'fix' is apparently by the limitation on it.  I mean, what harm would throwing this on a Y-Wing or E-Wing do?  It's not exactly overpowered...)

Hi Malev, I generally lay down base colours and shading with the AB then finish things off with the old hairy stick as it gives a little more definition and strength of colour to gaming miniatures I feel, I seriously don't spend too long with these things as they are not commission pieces but just for my own gaming porn, eyes are not painted in most cases for example, the house we play in has terrible lighting, I may as well finger paint them with custard tbh!
    in the meantime....
Second core set 'Rocky Skirmish' examples painted, adds a little bling to that boring flat surface!
