  1. How was Piett supposed to know that he was a load-bearing boss and a lucky shot would bring his entire ship down?acully they DID Shoot the A-wing down, it just happened to crash into the bridge... Yeah that never quite made sense for me how a MASSIVE starship would suddenly drive into the Death Star because the bridge was hit. Did the dude on the steering do an evasive manoeuvre or something?? It happened because the Death Star, being the size of a moon, has a gravitational pull. Destroy the bridge, destroy the things controlling the engines, and all of a sudden your 19km dreadnought becomes little more than an exercise in gravitational physics
  2. As we all know, the old EU is no longer Canon, and with the new films on the horizon providing plenty of new ships for us to blast each other with it is unlikely we'll see any Legends ships, at least for a few years. So as per the title, which no-longer-Canon ships would you have loved to see in Armada? For me I'd want the MC140 Scythe class and the Pellaeon class Star Destroyer from the Legacy series, partly because I love the look of them and also because both ships would provide some very interesting challenges to play properly.
  3. Well consider that the CR90 is supposed to be 150m in length and the Victory is meant to be 900m (6x the length) and yet the model of the Victory is only about twice the size of the corvette. If they had made the models to scale, then the large ships would either be huge, driving the prices up too high, or the small ships would be so small they might as well not bother making them. Anyone who lets the scale of the ships stop them from enjoying this game is a nit-picking idiot.
  4. I've designed a Armada/X-Wing campaign for my gaming group using this map: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20150308224731/starwars/images/8/89/Clone_Wars_Sector_Armies.png The rules are pretty simple. Planets can only be captured using Fleets, with special X-Wing missions happening just before an invasion to help try and give bonuses to the Armada fleet. The size of the forces players are allowed to use depends on how many planets they own. There's also a benefit for capturing entire sectors, RISK style, although once a sector capital is conquered the player gets some benefits from that. There's some house rules involved about capturing ships that allows any player to use any kind of ship (although not to start with) and even allows Sum and Villainy to get in on the Fleet action. Decided not to allow any named characters or ships in this campaign, and instead normal pilots can level up, as can ship crews
  5. I'm betting they'd be speed 4, Hull 3, 4 blue anti squadron dice, 1 red anti capital dice and the base squadron would have an Evade token, maybe 2. Probably costing a minimum of 16 points
  6. I would actually love for this to happen, tbh - maybe not for a while, until the game is completely established, but I think it would make for an excellent addition. There would be some cool ships involved, like the Keldabe-class battleship and a 3rd faction would help keep things fresh and interesting and help make battles more diverse in terms of gameplay and storyline - crushing Rebel Scum is only fun for so long before it becomes a chore
  7. Hounds tooth should be interesting to play with for its 180 degree fire arc, and I'm looking forward to the K-Wing because it looks like it might have a new action. Khiraxh (henceforth known as ScumE) isn't really catching my interest though And I'll love the Punisher just because it's another ship to crush the Rebel Scum with
  8. I don't know why people are hating this ship so much, and I especially don't get why they want the Scimitar. The Scimitar strikes me as the uglier ship and from a design point of view just doesn't fit with other Imperial ships. Also, the Punisher is going to be a heavy bomber. Does no-one else get excited to see how FFG use it to fix the current bombers in the game and add new cards and maybe new weapons? This thing is probably going to be a tank - slow moving, but tough as hell and dealing out serious damage. I can't wait to get my hands on it
  9. Not really bothered about other factions, but I'd love the Empire to get a TIE Avenger - the fact that they're basically heavy interceptors would make them amazing to play with
  10. I love the idea of mixing and matching ships in games like this and X-Wing - my friends and I played an X-Wing campaign that pitted the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant so we could just use whatever ships we wanted to, with some Scum mercenaries thrown in. It was a blast! And we plan on doing exactly the same for Armada. It would be nice to see things like an Imperial Neb-B and B2, but unless you play competitively there's nothing stopping you treating them as that anyway for a bit of fun
  11. I have no idea why my last post was posted twice...
  12. Since they've already taken from Empire at War with the Mk II, I wouldn't be surprised to see more ships from there appearing, such as the Imperial Acclamator class cruiser, which would be a small ship with Star Destroyer style fire arcs. Or the Broadside, which in the game is a missile frigate, and the Rebels getting the similar Marauder class as its opposite. I can also see the Dreadnought appearing, although for who I have no idea - maybe both?

  14. Played my first game yesterday with a guy in my gaming group, and I loved it! We played the LtP game, with myself in command of the Empire and my friend commanding the Rebel fleet. 1st Turn: I instantly dropped the speed on my Vic-II and moved my fighters into a screen in front of it, whilst the Rebels moved forwards eagerly with everything they had, and not a shot was fired. 2nd Turn: I continued as before, with an Engineering token being generated for later on, whilst the Rebels still came on, activating some of their squadrons in an attempt to move past my fighter screen, which resulted in a nice furball of TIEs and X-Wings in the middle of the table, with the X-Wings taking a pretty big mauling from some lucky rolls. Still no capital ship fire... 3rd Turn: The Nebulon B leaps forwards and fires a broadside at my Vic-II, knocking a shield off my flank. My return broadside strips his shield and deals a damage card, which is followed by fire from my forward arc leaving the Nebulon B on a single hull point, at the cost of 1 defence token removed. The CR90 attempts to drive down the other flank and instead managed to ram my Victory. More X-Wings die in the furball in the middle, taking the odd TIE with them 4th Turn: The Nebulon B limps past, dealing no damage to the Vic-II, and is reduced to atoms in the following broadside, but the CR90 avenges its loss by nipping past and firing at my flank, stripping all the shields and dealing a damage card. The last few X-Wings battle it out valiantly, but weight of numbers finally tells 5th Turn: The CR90 takes potshots at the engines and sweeps around wide whilst the Victory lumbers around with a well timed Navigate command, bringing a broadside to bear and leaving the little frigate with a single hull point remaining 6th Turn: The CR90 fires once more at my vulnerable rear and deals another damage card before pulling off an impressive manoeuvre to once again stay behind me. Not that it does any good, as my rear weapons open fire with a Concentrated Fire command and blow the plucky little ship into dust This game is just as much fun as I've spent the last 6 months or so thinking it would be! I think in the core they've struck a decent balance between the 2 forces, maybe a bit Engineering heavy like has been said in other forums, but overall I think it works great, with just the odd things not being obvious right away. I definitely got lucky in this game, being able to ignore the X-Wings with my Vic whilst it played Hunt the Frigate, and in that my friend decided to expose the flank of his Nebulon B to my firepower, but I have a feeling that our next game will be very different
  15. I think there's only 9 tiles @Papa Midnigh. - would make sense for FFG to only include as many as are shown in the photos, however I guess there could be more. And I'm sure there won't be any rules against different shapes play areas being used, which would make more players possible - and if that's the case, simply adding more factions and rules would make adding more players easy anyway
