FFG did say that new bases sets would replace previous base sets. I kinda feel like that implies some type of rotation, maybe just at the tournament level. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't want this to turn into Magic, where each year's base set reprints prior cards.

As a Magic player, just wanna inform y'all that they're done doing (major) reprints or base sets for that matter. Now it's just new blocks after new blocks (each block consists of 2 expansions).

As for SWD, I'm beginning to think they have a limited reprint and (random) booster packing contract or policy with their foreign printing companies. Thus the need to revamp and "restructure" the contents of a single set annually. And of course, let's not forget the premium dice. I think they cost quite a lot to manufacture.

Those with a fixed amount of cards being printed and packed (their LCGs) don't have that kind of ... limitations, thus they can be printed, packed, and shipped again and again.

There is not talk of rotation from FFG.  Only the limited runs that each set will have.  Each year we will get a base set and Starters that will be printed all year and 2 limited sets that will only be in print about 4 months.  Nothing more or less has come from FFG.

I agree, I don't think FFG would be crazy enough to do annual rotations for a fledgling game like SWD. Even a game as old as MtG quickly revised their annual rotation policy back to bi-annual due to player outrage..

Besides, FFG really took their sweet time rotating Netrunner sets 5 years after its release.

  3. That being said, one is not obligated to buy ALL datapacks from all cycles. Just buy the ones we want to use in our decks would suffice. Try making decks in cardgamedb, proxy the ones we need to purchase. Do several playtesting as both runners and corps against a friend. You can always goldfish (or play by yourself) to determine how fast can you build your rig / set up your resources, ice, assets and whatnots. After you're satisfied, you can do the actual purchasing.

  4. Marketing wise, this is pure genius coming from FFG. Other TCG manufacturers always made their tournament / world winning decks non-tournament legal with different card backs and all (gold borders for MtG for example). But this,... this is gold.

    1. It's a very much needed stepping stone to start the game, using proven quality decks and strategies. Not just for newbies, existing players like the Tyler here would be interested.

    2. The biggest entry barrier for LCGs, especially those with so many expansions like ANR or Cthulhu or the 1st AGoT are buying the expansions. Much like reason no.1, this pretty much mitigates said barrier.

    3. It uses an all new layout and "full art" cards, making veterans want s to collect it.

Personally I'm buying two since both decks doesn't have all 3 of the cards. I want 3 Account Siphons and 3 D4v1ds for completion sake  :P

  5.

I can see 2 MC80s for a carrier build, but that's about it. The MC80 wants to be a buff ship and a tank. You don't need or really want more than two of those. It will be very durable and greatly increase the potential of ships around it. I think the primary use is going to be Home One with Ackbar supported by as many AF2s as possible. The AF2 puts out almost just as much firepower for a significant discount. Once you have Home One, it will be far more points efficient to grab AF2s.

The MC30, by contrast, I firmly expect to work and work well in large numbers.

I see, thanks a bunch! buying 2 immediately would be quite costly, so I think I'll just buy 1 first, making it the Home One, a centerpiece of my Armada. Currently I only have 2 AF2s, do you think I should get more the moment wave 2 is launched?

  6. Thank you so very much for making this, Initially I was very afraid jumping into the Armada bandwagon. I know I wanted to play Scum in X-Wing, I just bought 1-2 small ships, 1 big ships, per wave.

But in Armada, experimenting with squad building is just too costly (money wise).

Based on your Rebel guide, I've bought a core, 2 Afmk2, 2 C90, 1 Neb and 2 Rebel squads, oh and an extra dice set too.

Regarding wave 2, what do you think us rebel players should buy? I read the FFG article about the Mon Calamari star cruiser, I think 1 is enough, making it the Home One with Ackbar on helm. But I don't think I'll ever need 2,.. rite?

But what about the MC30c frigate? do you think I should get 2, 3 or even 5 for a swarm glass cannon, kamikaze berserker?

    Thanks in advance! :)

  7. Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply. Busy with the office and at home, plus the approval thingie made me forgot about this thread lol.

2 Littlefinger seems to be a thing. Pretty much no reason not to get the six Roads in.

Milk of the Poppy is a control card. I don't know that I've ever had 3 in a deck, but very often 1 or 2. It depends on whether you have other means of character control/removal--sometimes the best way to blank a text box is to put it in the Dead Pile ;-)

Tears of Lys is a solid include if you have Intrigue.

    Reducers are good.

If you did decide to start with this basic resource package as the core of your deck, you're probably not going to go far wrong.

I've read somewhere that the Roseroad is an auto 3, but Kingsroad just needs 2 at most since it doesn't help you play events and such. Thanks for the tip about putting them into the Dead pile :P
I'm more of a control player in other TCGs and LCGs so I tend to look for events (spells) that directly eliminate characters. I fell in love with Dracarys! It's so accurate, fluff wise. But in-game, quite situational since Daenerys is the only Stormborn (how many stormborns are there aside from Dany?!) and dragons only buff her. It's an incredibly, extremely fragile house atm IMO. So go with the next best thing; kneeling characters with the Baratheon house. Anyway, thanks for the tips :)

    Look at it this way:

You have just named approximately 20 cards.

Do you really think that all 8 factions - and all the Banner alliance combinations thereof - are so similar in theme, effects, mechanics and play style that 1/3 of each and every deck will always be the same?

What the discussion really comes down to is the fact that the personalities of the Factions are different enough, and even the decks that can be built within a Faction are different enough, that there really isn't a "base" 20-odd cards that will fit all Factions and all decks. It is best to think about what your deck is supposed to do, and what you need it to do, and choose cards that fulfill as many of those needs as possible.

That's not to say that the 20-ish cards you have identified aren't good answers to the basic questions or problems that every deck must deal with. I'm just saying that if you start every deck with those 20 card, and consider them immutable inclusions that cannot be adjusted, you are ultimately going to be unhappy with your decks, miss a lot of the dynamic personalities of the factions and the game, or both.

I see, thanks a bunch for the insight, thorough analysis and considerations, I like your train of thought. I initially thought that since it's still just all core cards, deckbuilding is still incredibly limited, thus the need for a "fixed" amount of staple like the 20 cards one I mentioned. Well noted, so it's actually permutable and adjustable huh? I'll keep that in mind when I build my decks.

Thanks again for the reply guys, really appreciate it :)

  8. Hi everyone, this is my first AGoT LCG, missed the first edition for Call of Cthulhu LCG, Netrunner, then Warhammer 40k annnd X-Wing. I totally fell in love with the 2nd ED AGoT video, ordered mine from eBay and now i'm pretty much swimming in cards with no idea how to build a good, proper, competitive deck lol.

As I read the cards, read some reviews in CardGamesDB.com, watched some youtube videos (from TeamCovenant). I summarized that I need to have these cards in all House decks that I make:

    - 2 Little Fingers

    - 3 The Kingsroad

    - 3 The Roseroad

    - 3 Milk of the Poppy

    - X copies of Tears of Lys (depending on how many Intrigue characters in my deck)

    - 3 Faction based character cost reducer

    - 3 Faction based location cost reducer

Are these correct? Do I need 1 or 2 copies of Bodyguard too to help prevent the death of my high cost lord / lady characters?

I'm planning on making a Baratheon deck, splashed with Greyjoy for their stealth btw.

    Thanks in advance guys!
