  1. Yes, I saw it yesterday day before yesterday. I really liked it. It will be my honor to destroy it some day. I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield, vile Sith honorable sir.
  2. NOOoooo...... I'ld like to see the Lamda shuttle, Gr75 and Interdictor plus new objectives for each. Me too. I also don't want them coming out TOO soon. I know that it's important to keep up the hype, but I also want to enjoy what I just got my hands on. When X-wing wave 7 came out, FFG started releasing wave 8 spoilers, and it seemed that that was all that the guys at my local league were talking about. Nobody was asking each other how they would fit a K-wing or a Punisher into their list; they were talking about what they wanted to do with Ghost and the Assault Carrier. I'm worried that any day now we'll see the "Introducing Wave 3" post, before wave 2 is officially out.
  3. I don't know. I've never left the Armada table feeling like the dice won or lost anything for me. I've left the X-Wing table feeling that many times. Ditto. As for the Glad/Scree example, if you put your ship in a position to throw 4 black and 2 red dice, you'd have to be really, really, REALLY unlucky not to royally F up your opponent.
  4. I painted one of my AFs to look like a Spitfire. Named her the HMS Bentley Priory after the headquarters of Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain, in honour (sic) of those in the air and on the ground who did their part 75 years ago. Thinking of renaming her Spitfire since there's less explanation involved...can't expect everyone to know what Bentley Priory was
  5. The games will get shorter as you become more experienced. My first match at Sullust took under an hour. As for truly large scale battles, you can always play a 600 point game with your friends. Regarding tactics posts...remember that this is a very new game. Magic has been around for 20 years. Give it time, and if you want the game to play on, keep supporting it!
  6. Also, the tourney I went to saw two Rhymer balls face off. It was pretty epic, and ended after 110 minutes in the 4th round.
  7. I took Tycho, 2 a-wings, and 4 y-wings. I won all my matches.
  8. Also, practice makes perfect. Just as you would practice flying past obstacles with X-wing, you should practice lining up shots for Armada. If you can get two arcs on an enemy you get to shoot at them twice which puts you at a huge advantage. Don't let premeauring give you a false sense of security. Yes, you will know where you will end up before committing to the maneuver, but the best players know where they will be several turns before they move.
  9. BiggsIRL's guides are awesome, they certainly helped me out. Lyraues and Schmitty both have excellent vids and guides as well, respectively. I'll let them post their own links here
  10. $20 at my FLGS. Five people showed up and everyone won something. Plus I got to play 3 games and most importantly I had fun. So yes I certainly got my money's worth, and the TO said that they broke even.
  11. Yes, I've seen X-wing matches won by people who deserved to lose and vice versa all because of the dice. I know on the X-wing forums they say that a bad roll is no excuse, but I've seen it happen too much. In my 3 matches yesterday I had a single bad roll and I'm blaming myself for wasting my concentrate fire token earlier when I didn't need to. P.s. I don't mean for this to turn into an X-wing hate fest...
  12. I know you're already sold, but I'll add one more thing. The reason why I switched to Armada was because there is much less reliance on luck. I play X-wing with B-wing swarms and I can't tell you how many times I lined up the perfect shot only to roll blanks or have them be evaded. In Armada you can still roll blanks but not as often; it's your positioning and smart use of commands that will really win the day. Like they said above with the beer analogy, X-wing is still fun to do with my local group but I only do casual play, not really caring how well I do.
  13. I did, except that my powers have doubled since we last met.
  14. I went to just one this weekend at Rainy Day Games in Oregon (Mikael was taking notes and will likely write a blog about it. He also won, though the two of us never got to play). I took this list and came in second: AFB+Garm Bel Iblis+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament+Weapons Liaison AFB+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament+Weapons Liaison Tycho A-wings x2 Y-wings x4 I won all three matches, 9-1 (against a 2xAF plus Neb list), 5-5 (against a mini-Rhymer ball, with a 3 point MOV!), and 6-4 (against 1xAF plus 2xNeb). All of the opponents were very respectful, honest, and a joy to play against. Definite "fly casual" atmosphere even though there was a lot at stake. There were 5 of us and we unanimously agreed at the beginning to play 3 Swiss rounds with no final round instead of 2 plus a final. I was fine with this since there was a 3 way tie at the end of the 2nd round, but after 3 rounds it was clear who had 1st and 2nd place. Some pics: Anyone know how to upload pics here? I have a couple that I'd like to shart.
  15. Identify yourself, dissident, so that you may know the true wrath of the Empire. You shall know me by the trail of debris I will leave. (But there are some who call me John)
  16. Very well written Mikael. Looking forward to crushing you at RDG on Sunday.
  17. Have fun and don't skip any part of the rules. Be aware that the starter game is not as exciting as a full game, but it's necessary. Think of it like you would a pilot to a TV series.
  18. (For the confused, Lyraues and I are running 2 AFs vs 2 AFs this evening. We'll let you know how it plays out)
  19. I would love to watch more complete game vids. That's how I learned what to do (and NOT) to do for X-wing. Watch for others' mistakes and make sure you don't make them yourself. I don't have the ability to record anything myself, sadly

  21. Thanks for the reply. Personally I don't see myself using Gallant Haven since I'll want to keep the ships at long range while the fighters close, but that's just me.
  22. A couple of weeks ago I posted a double AFII list with Leia on a corvette (found here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/187351-2xafcorvette/). Inow have decided that weapons liaisons are a much better value than spending 49 points on a ship that is supposed to stay away from the fight. I also found that, at least in the games I played, that the A wings were more effective than XI7 at whittling down shields. Since XI7 hogs a turbolaser spot anyways, I thought I'd swap it out for enhanced armament. The Guppies are very hard to kill when I keep them at range and spam engineering commands, so I'm ok with taking only 2 ships. I came up with this: AFB+Garm Bel Iblis+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament+Weapons Liaison AFB+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament+Weapons Liaison Tycho A-wings x2 Y-wings x3 This puts me at 289 points. So, I shall ask once again...what to do with the remaining 11 points? Another A wing? Another Y wing (which gives me a weak initiative bid at 299)? Maybe upgrade one AF to an A? Probably not the last one since it defeats the purpose of forming a battle line, but you never know. Would love some suggestions.
  23. Thanks all. I rely on squads to whittle down shields so my AFs can make the kill, and I don't take Dodonna or Yavaris, so...the Ys it is (for me).
  24. Subject says it all...what do you think?
