  1. Iskander and Bitharne to play Monday the 14th at 9 p.m. Pacific Time.
  2. Iskander and Bitharne to play this evening. Match to start between 9-10 Pacific time. Edit: match postponed, see next post!
  3. Ceryliae I have a game all set up, please join! I hope you didn't forget. I can wait another 10 minutes but I can't start much later than 2130. I don't think I can reschedule at all for this week either.
  4. Count me in! Time zone is Pacific (US West Coast, GMT-8). I'm free weekday evenings after 9:00 (8:30 if I'm lucky). List is as follows: (395/400) ================== Home One: MC80 Command Cruiser (106 + 77) + Admiral Ackbar (38) + Raymus Antilles (7) + Electronic Countermeasures (7) + Leading Shots (4) + Engine Techs (8) + XI7 Turbolasers (6) + Home One (7) Assault Frigate Mark II: Assault Frigate Mk.II B (72 + 27) + Intel Officer (7) + Gunnery Team (7) + Electronic Countermeasures (7) + XI7 Turbolasers (6) CR90 Corvette: CR90 Corvette A (44 + 12) + Leia Organa (3) + Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7) + Jaina's Light (2) Squadrons: Dash Rendar (24) Squadrons: A-wing Squadron (11) Squadrons: A-wing Squadron (11) Squadrons: A-wing Squadron (11)
  5. Hmmm, a CVE? Combustible Vulnerable Expendable? (Nevemind that things can't combust in space)
  6. I think they mentioned that in an earlier episode, that if you have a fighter screen, you might as well add Rhymer.
  7. OK, went back to the ol' drawing board and decided to make a 2xAF list. Sadly I won't be able to field test it for a few weeks. The upgrades I selected are those that meshed with my play style during Wave 1, combined with the lessons learned from yesterday. 399 points MC80 (179 points) -Admiral Ackbar -Raymus Antilles -Advanced Projectors -SW-7 Ion Batteries -Home One AFIIB (85 points) -Gunnery Team -Advanced Projectors AFIIB (86 points) -Gunnery Team -ECM (since I only have 2 copies of AP) Tycho 3x A-wings
  8. Great show guys, many thanks again. I was a bit sad to hear none of you had the fourth round duel between the ISD and MC80 lists. We played this at my FLGS (I was a spectator, alas) and we were all blown away by the MC-80 - including the ISD, which was shredded by Ackbar's boys in a few volleys. On the point about 25pts of upgrades, I think I agree with DrunkTarkin. It feels like you need to spend those extra points to really get the best out of your already significant investment. - ECMs to ensure you get the brace - Gunnery teams (on the ISD) to get the most out of the front arc - A title (Avenger is my ISD favourite, Defiance or Home One on the MC-80. Independence sucks) - Ion Cannons / Tractor Beams / Enhanced Armaments to taste - Plus usually the Admiral That is a ton of extra points right there, which make the large ships a real centre-piece of the battle. Which I think is pretty awesome. Agreed, I just can't see myself taking it naked or nearly naked. And that's OK. Makes it feel even more epic.
  9. I was just thinking the same thing. I think right after I bought a StarViper solely so my A-wings could stay competitive that I questioned my investment in X-wing. I still play for fun, just not competitively anymore.
  10. So do I but the fight did not allow for it anyway. It would have taken a few more turns to maneuver back into firing position. Also, given the damage to my flagship it is entirely possible that I would have ended up losing the game if I did manage to make said turns. Sorry that wasn't a knock against you, and your strategy made sense given the situation. I was referring to your comment about troll lists.
  11. Again ... Gunnery Teams. But fair enough - without Gunnery Team its like a cheap EA for the MC80. Exactly. The 80 can't take Gunnery team, and with Ackbar you're only firing from the side, so it's like a discount Enhanced Armaments.
  12. I like to crush dreams, but I prefer to get at least 8 points in the process.
  13. ^ The Armada Wiki page is great for this sort of info. I mainly run Rebs but I've seen Imp players use the included upgrades in squad-heavy lists. Not sure how many people will have 2 Vics in their lists once Wave 2 hits though.
  14. Thanks Blazer, glad you enjoyed it. And you're right, I can't take Gunnery teams on the 80. But this does mean I can swap out enhanced arms for slaves turrets since I can't attack out of that arc twice anyways.
  15. I won by 23 points against a 400 pt Motti VVG list with 2 of each generic TIE (my opponent wasn't at Sullust and therefore had only Wave 1 stuff). My oppenent had initiative, went first, and chose Fleet Ambush. I won by 23 points--I killed his Glad and his flagship; Home One blew up on turn 4, my red corvette died on turn 5 (after ramming both the Glad and the Vic, which for both enemy ships was for the final damage card!), and all A wings lost. Some thoughts: -Fleet Ambush was a terrible choice for this list. My opponent put both his Vics and all his TIEs far forward, so by the end of turn 1 Tycho and 1 A wing were dead and half his fighters could go after my ships, and the other two A's died on turn 2. Additionally, I deployed my AF and MC80 the way I did with my dual AF lists against Imp lists, forgetting that the Vics were already forward. Long story short, my AF only fired one salvo the whole game because he overshot my opponent. -I take back what I said about Gunnery Teams. My opponent placed his ships in such a way that for every turn, they were entirely within the starboard arc of both my AF and 80. If I had this upgrade on both ships, or even just on the 80, I would have killed both his Glad and flagship much sooner. As it was, I had to destroy them piecemeal which resulted in the 80 being destroyed. I guess the best defense really is a good offense. -Ackbar: pants-down awesome. He took my favorite strategy and made it even better. -Advanced Projectors: awesome on the AF, even better on an 80 -Leading Shots: never actually needed it. Thinking of swapping it out for the SW-7 -Home One: this SHOULD have been awesome. I say that because the four times I could have used it, I completely forgot I had it. Whoops...that's what happens when I use a new list I guess. -Navigation Officer: I used him late in the game when I was trying to get my AF back into the fight. Could be good; will have to see. -Slaved Turrets: so-so on a red corvette. When I was at long range, they combo'd nicely with Ackbar. When it got to close range though, Ackbar was dead and I couldn't take advantage of double-arcing my opponent, so I had a net loss of a blue dice by only being able to fire from one arc. I want to like it, but I'm not sure where to put it (and it can't co-exist with gunnery teams). -SW-7: I really like this one, especially if the enemy ship was already softened up that turn. Overall: I had a lot of fun with the new ship and upgrades (even though I forgot to use one of the best ones). Thinking of getting rid of the blue corvette, and putting SW-7 on the 80. This will free up the points needed for Gunnery Team on both the AF and the 80. With 34 points leftover, I can put enhanced arms back on the 80 and AF. Then I just need to decide what to do with those remaining 14 points...and of course no matter what I do things will change once all of Wave 2 goes on sale.
  16. Of course, I could drop the EA and change the AF to a A for the extra front and anti-squad dice. The AF will be in front of the cruiser so it may need to use that extra die.
  17. Thanks for all of your replies. I ran 2 AFIIs at Sullust with good results; both of them had Enhanced Armament and Gunnery Teams and while they both came in handy, I think overall the Enhanced Arms helped me more. But then again I will have Akbar, so I guess EA isn't quite as necessary. Realistically I'll probably eventually settle for 2 AFs with the MC80, but I want to see how these Corvettes fare. The slaved turrets are there because they will hopefully combo with Akbar (since I can't double arc with his ability anyways; Akbar and slaved turrets let me add an AF battery to the little Corvette!). I'll also let you know how the blue corvette works out. For objectives, definitely Advanced Gunnery, probably Dangerous Territory, and either Fleet Ambush or Fire Lanes.
  18. My local group has decided to allow 400 point builds starting this week, and those who won a Wave 2 prize at Sullust will be allowed to use it. I took home Home One and came up with the following list. I plan on spamming engineering commands, and the Navigation Officer is there in case the AFII needs to break formation and get the hell out of there chase down enemies trying to escape. I'll let you know how it fared after Tuesday's game, and of course I'm open to suggestions: 400 Points MC80 Command Cruiser -Admiral Ackbar -Advanced Projectors -Leading Shots -Home One AFIIB -Navigation Officer -Advanced Projectors -Enhanced Armament CR90-A -Slaved Turrets -Jaina's Light CR90-B -SW-7 Tycho, plus 3 more A wings
  19. Amen, brother. (IIRC the Raider was created specifically for X-wing and Armada)
  20. After GenCon there was talk about how the meta was as many ships as you could squeeze into a list with 3 or fewer squadrons, but within a few weeks it seemed like we all snapped out of that. I like that there is a lot of variation, and hopefully Wave 2 will make that even better. The one thing that I have noticed, at least locally, is that going first is very popular. Which is fine with me, since I much prefer to go second.
  21. I don't care so much about the cost, I'm worried about a combination of over-saturation over-hype, which I fear has started to happen to X-wing. As I mentioned above, people were so excited about the wave 8 announcement and the sudden TFA release that it took away from the experience of playing wave 7 (at least for me). With all the releases this year (S&V, Wave 7, TFA, the Raider, and the Assault Carrier supposedly being here by Christmas), I'm feeling pretty burnt out with the game. Half the fun was collecting the spacecraft, but with so many being thrown at me I don't have much motivation to get any of them, and I feel a little paralyzed with all the new squad combinations now (I know, many of you like that aspect). It would be even worse if this happened with Armada because of the pace of the game and how long it takes. With X-wing, you can get in 2-3 games at each league night which gives you a chance to try out new lists. We don't have that luxury with Armada. So I hope that FFG does the right thing and goes a little slower with Armada. It'll be more fun for us, plus it'll hopefully keep the game around for a long time.
  22. Yes, I saw it yesterday day before yesterday. I really liked it. It will be my honor to destroy it some day. I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield, vile Sith honorable sir. You will regret experience. *glowers threateningly* You have now earned the attention of Imperial Intelligence and efforts will be made to bring your insurrection to a swift demise. Meanwhile, here is the story of the Imperial victories and the Rebellion's infamy of the Rainy Day tournament: Following Caluula, Imperial Navy Presses Advantage My final match was won 6-4, but I suppose I should expect to be slandered by the Imperial press. Downplay my victories all you want--I will enjoy the look of surprise from the Imperial troops when I crush them and liberate the oppressed. Even now I am in secret negotiations with the Mon Calamari--my victories have convinced them to loan me an MC-80 class cruiser. Not sure what to name her yet. (Oops, not so secret anymore)
