Intensify Forward Firepower XVII: (Why Dano Loves Ozzel)

Can we stop derailing this? All we have are imperfect alleged accounts (to be clear, this is not an accusation and I like everyone in this thread - it is a statement about the imperfection of the memories of our meat bodies and another strong argument for FFG issuing battle-droids to run tournaments); nobody has an audio recording, nobody took photos, nobody has a video. Stop. Nobody can convince anyone what happened with 100% (hell, probably not even 50%) confidence here. There's no point. Agree, there's no point in further discussing details of this. I do like the discussion we've got going about our own experiences though. I too find myself in league night saying "I'm ok with you doing that, but be aware that you can't do it in a tournament". And I'm OK with someone telling me that as well. -
Also, I would say that Dodonna and Garm are by far the most flexible. You CAN build your list around them, but you don't HAVE to.
-
Precisely. Mon Mothma is awesome for slippery MSU lists but almost useless if you're centering your list around an Independence carrier. ALTHOUGH...there may be an argument here for Rieeken. He's weak insofar as he won't get you far in a tournament. If you're playing casually or in a league where MOV doesn't matter, he's awesome, but from what I've seen the strategy he encourages won't get you a lot of Tourney points. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, of course.

I absolutely love your articles. I honestly, seriously would not be the player (or Admiral?) that I am if it weren't for your in-depth analysis. Keep 'em coming! -
Sometimes we can't have everything we want

I was thinking scout frigate with OE.

5 bucks on EBay you say...ok, now the discussion is APT (not ACM, that was a typo!) vs XI7 vs HTT. Drasnighta had me leaning towards HTT. Anyone else?
-
Sound great...but I'm not sure if I want to spend 50 bucks just for one card...though on paper your answer does make the most sense
-
This is my preference as well, assuming I can afford it. I tend to reserve Lando for Foresight. Ditto. As Ahsoka told Anakin in the otherwise forgetable Clone Wars movie, sometimes the best offense is a good defense.
-
Edit: that's supposed to say APT, not ACM. Sorry for the confusion. Has anyone crunched the numbers and figured out the average damage output of one over the other? Or, more simply, would you rather give them a face up or to chew through their shields quicker (and give them a face up anyways if you roll enough double blacks)?

Don't forget that Willy Blistex is great on the Admonition too!

A couple of observations from this weekend's Store Championships
Iskander4000 replied to shmitty's topic in Star Wars: Armada
I agree about few to no squads--you can get away with it if you have only small ships but a decent screen should be a necessity if you have a large target. It's not a huge loss if the enemy swarms your corvette--probably the equivalent of losing a token screen, squad-wise, and you've tied them down for a few turns so the rest of your fleet is safe. If you have one or two big targets though it's a different story. Last night I ran 5 small ships with only an a-wing for emergency engagements, and Han and a 2400 to act as bomber support (also available for emergencies). Han was more than worth the points--the last turn he saved a frigate surrounded by 6 squads by jumping in at the start of the turn. The thing I like most about others fielding 4-5 ships is that I have more targets to destroy... Mwah hahahaha... -

He's an excellent teacher. Twice now he's kicked my butt, and both times I went on a winning streak afterwards -

In my non-scientific sample of 2 people I've found that 40k players catch on pretty quickly. Both of them had no trouble grasping the complex rules, and unlike X-wing veterans they thought Armada wasn't expensive or too time consuming. -

I live on the opposite end of town from MH, out in the suburbs. We have a dedicated group of 4 players (including me) who come out to the bimonthly league night at our FLGS. I was the only one from the league who went to the Sullust event there (MH showed up and took first). The interesting thing is that each of the 4 of us got into the game on our own and just decided to show up to the league nights. I was the only one who had been going to the store's X-wing nights; otherwise there wasn't any crossover. I think it was just luck that all of us started showing up. We've had a few other people show up once or twice and a friend of mine has started playing but he lives an hour away so I don't know how often he can come. Long story short, I'm liking my community although I think we got lucky. I was really on a roll that weekend. I've not been as dominant since then, unfortunately. I heard you came out to the Portland Game Store and got a game in with Lyraeus last week. How is the Rainy Day league going these days? Is it still the four of you? I see Rainy Day ordered a Store Championship kit for X-Wing, but will not be doing such an event for Armada. Sadly no Aramada store championship at Rainy Day. I wish there was. I'll be at the Guardian Games one later this month. The league is fun and I've actually been the one showing up the least this past season; I've had a lot going on but tomorrow is the first of the winter season and I'll be able to make it to most of the game nights. Brian (who won the fall season), Jordan, and Frances are all fun to play with and though it can get heated at times we all get along great. And yup, Lyraeus and I had a skirmish last week. He wiped the floor with me but that's how I learn. All in all I like the community though it's always nice to have more people. Edit: sorry Jordan, I forgot you were also at Sullust -

I like that Wave 2 upgrades helped the CR90 finally find a place in my lists, and hopefully Wave 3 will have upgrades that keep older ships competitive too. That's a cool idea about the Dreadnaught! There could be one model with both reb and Imp cards.

I think he deserves to be in the game as a nod to Zahn. Star Wars' resurgence in popularity in the 90s was pretty much sparked by these books, regardless of what you think of them or their characters.

OK, here is my new, revamped MSU list. Limited squads but with no large ships I'm not too worried about it. Han is included because he's awesome and I think he fits in here. Critiques welcome. MSU 2 (395/400) ============== MC30c Frigate: MC30c Scout Frigate (69 + 22) + Lando Calrissian (4) + Ordnance Experts (4) + XI7 Turbolasers (6) + Foresight (8) MC30c Frigate: MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 + 17) + Walex Blissex (5) + Ordnance Experts (4) + Admonition (8) CR90 Corvette: CR90 Corvette A (44 + 39) + Mon Mothma (30) + Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7) + Jaina's Light (2) CR90 Corvette: CR90 Corvette B (39 + 5) + SW-7 Ion Batteries (5) CR90 Corvette: CR90 Corvette B (39 + 5) + SW-7 Ion Batteries (5) Squadrons: A-wing Squadron (11) Squadrons: YT-2400 (16) Squadrons: Han Solo (26)
