Well, as much as some malign the forums, I have enjoyed my time here. I appreciate the conversations and the arguments and nonsense. As always, community has been the greatest part of X-wing, and the forums were an extensio nof that, and I will be sad to see them go. Thanks for the ride. I'll likely be here until the end. Hopefully, AMG will start something and I'll see you all there, but I don't see that in the cards.
Definitely cleaning house, as it is all FFG forums being shut down not just the lines that are being transferred to AMG.

Reddit is pretty active, lots of Discord channels and FB groups.
I'll miss these forums, for more than just X-Wing. Even then, I have enjoyed the Painting and Mod and Squadbuilding sub forums a lot. This sucks, I figured it was coming for Xwing/Armada/Legion, but just taking down all of them really sucks.

Burius1981 got a reaction from Turcopolier in Tri-Fighter Reactions
I finally got some table time with Tri-Fighters.
After one match that went poorly because I messed up my turn 0, and turn 1 I went back to the drawing board and modified an old list that I had taken to a 40-50 person HS tournament and made the cut with.
2 i3 Vultures, 1 i3 Hyena with an APT, 1 i3 Hyena with a Proton Torp, DBS-32C with Kalani, and DIS-347. So all i3, run in a 3x2 formation with the vultures and the APT Hyena in the front. Kalani for locks, failing that 32C for the engagement phase Lock which enables 347's ability to acquire a Lock. The plan is to approach in formation, lock up something with the Proton Bomber and 347(more locks if able) and try and get ahead in points in the first engagement. Then see how the board state develops.
Worked super well, my opponent had a relatively beefy 5-ship FO list with Holo as a flanker. I lost the APT bomber but took out LeHuse the round before so I was up on points. When we called it I had 5 ships on the table to his 3(my Proton Bomber and 32C both had a couple damage cards, his TIES and Holo were down 1 shield each with a card or two on the TIES) and though it could still go either way we both agreed that I was in the stronger position points wise and considering the board state.
DIS-347 gets two thumbs up from me. His ability is easy enough to trigger in most lists and a free target lock is nothing to sneeze at. My buddy never shot at him, he was more worried about the three Hyenas, which is what I wanted. Hopefully I can take out anything with higher Initiative or that is pretty maneuverable so once the Hyenas are dead 347 is the ace and I can win from that (hopefully) strong position.

Any thoughts on DIS-347? I flew him the other day with dual HMP's (and a mix of some others), and his ability worked really well with the networked aim. I found that I could make sure that the Tri-fighter always had one mod (usually two), and I could lock the ship that I wanted to have more re-rolls on with the HMP's.

Burius1981 reacted to Borg7of11 in Discussion thread: Going too far : generic lists + aceswarm lists
Some folks are frustrated that the game isn't _exactly_ right per their individual expectations and tastes.
I have a different point of view. For me the game is one of dynamic equilibrium. I expect changes to adjust my play options and style. The exploration that comes from these changes is a huge source of my enjoyment.
In this regard X-wing 2.0 has been, is and likely will forever be in a better place than X-wing 1.0 was for most of its release waves. I had a lot of fun with 1.0 but find 2.0 to be even more engaging.
I for one am thoroughly enjoying the current extended meta. While I rarely play hyperspace, I find the current options to be fascinating to ponder. As a regular Epic player, the news that generics are good isn't really new.

Burius1981 reacted to AceDogbert in Tri-Fighter Reactions
A slightly different reaction: I found getting the models out of the packaging quite difficult. I inadvertantly broke off one of the wing/engine parts by applying too much force to the plastic packaging. Luckily, it was a very clean break (likely along the join) and easily fixed with some glue. Made me appreciate the detail work on the ship much more.

Found a small error: I noticed that none of the First Order TIE/ba have Talent Slots when they are all supposed to have one.
Ty for a great little piece of software.

You can still link actions, the upgrade basically just allows you to link a calculate into a calculate.

Burius1981 got a reaction from Greedo_Sharpshooter in Torkil+ShadowCaster+Zealous Recruit+Zealous Recruit
I like it and I'm curious to hear how it does on the table.
Torkil + Lancer with title and two Fangs to follow it all up seems like it could really lay the hurt on somebody. You'll have to fly it well though, higher initiative/more maneuverable ships are going to be trying to arc dodge so you'd better practice your blocking with the Fangs and positioning in general.
I like it so much I may need to try it myself

Firepower and beef. Im gonna give this a go. co-pilot gives durability to the caster letting it mod dice both on attack and defence in same turn or use two focus on defence when harassed by multiple enemies. Caster title strips defenders focus or gives -1def for followup punch from Torkil and fangs.
thoughts?

Burius1981 reacted to Darth Meanie in Showcase: Firespray-31
Way back in the 1990s, my brother ran a Nikto bounty hunter who, of course, "flew Boba Fett's ship" which of course we discovered was a Firespray. His PC had zebra stripe body armor, so I decided his ship would match.
His PC was murderous with a sniper rifle at long range, so. . .

Burius1981 reacted to DR4CO in NANTEX POINTS FIX
And they're all wrong.
The RZ-2 is, quite frankly, what a 2-dice ship needs to be in order to be relevant -- and even then, only just. All of the ships that look bad alongside the RZ-2 need to be adjusted to match it, not the reverse. Making the RZ-2 look "balanced" compared to stuff like RZ-1s and Z-95s just means we'll have yet another unplayable 2-attack ship.

Burius1981 reacted to Ryuneke in Sliding Into the Weekend AKA HMP Day Is Finally Over
I really like ships with unique movement so I tried a Gunship swarm yesterday.
If you want to build a swarm with these guys I think you have to put 5 in a list. Having only 4 ships seems a bit weak even with more upgrades. My biggest problems when building a list were:
1) The HMP wants some upgrades (like ordnance) at first glance. But then the Gunship becomes really expensive. The Multi-Missile-Pods are too expensive imo considering they are not working at range 3. The synced-laser-cannons ability doesn't work if you've spent your calculate for the attack. Concussion Missiles/Ion missiles might be worth a look.
2) The low initiative could be a problem
3) Having different initiative could be a problem when flying a swarm.
4) Don't know if it's just my perception but this thing looks too expensive even without upgrades....
Nevertheless I put this list on the table (thanks to @theBitterFig suggestions)
DGS-047 (35)
Repulsorlift Stabilizers (3)
Baktoid Drone (34)
Ion Missiles (3)
Repulsorlift Stabilizers (3)
Baktoid Drone (34)
DRK-1 Probe Droids (5)
Repulsorlift Stabilizers (3)
Baktoid Drone (34)
K2-B4 (5)
Repulsorlift Stabilizers (3)

Repulsorlift Stabilizers (3)

View in Yet Another Squad Builder 2.0
- 5 ships/40hp
- all have the same initiative
- the DRK-Probe Droid is an absolute no brainer for this list because it activates Network Aim (ship ability gives you rerolls)
- K2-B4 could help your defense and keep them on the board longer but the lack of Network Calculation is a downside. Still your opponent has to make decisions what I really like
- DGS-047 (why is this guy called Doug btw?) is really strong. Shoot first with him, get a lock and everybody gets a reroll against the same target.
- Ion Missiles (or even Cluster Missiles) could be strong considering all the rerolls you have
I played against a Laat/i list with 2 Naboo Fighters and Luminara. I brought 3 rocks
I setup like that
^ ^ ^
x x
The Ion guy started in the front row in the middle flanked by DGS and the DRK-guy. K2 and the no upgrades HMP started at the back. I placed my forces in the middle of the board.
I instantly felt like playing 4 Starvipers. You really can force your opponent into the engagement you want. I sidesliped, 0-stop, sidesliped, 0-stop. Acquired locks on 3 different ships to get rerolls. As my opponent approached I was in a good spot having shots at everything. As we get into the knife fight my opponent wasn't able to arcdodge my ships at all. Because of the sideslip ability you have an extremely high time on target with modded shots all the time. K2-B4 triggered twice (if I remember correctly) and helped one of my ships to survive.
As time was called I lost one Gunship and two were at half points which won me the game.
Conclusion:
I wasn't able to get the Ion Missile of because this guy died first. Still think it's a good card for this list.
My opponent said that he was really suprised what you can do with the sideslip ability. Sideslip-0 stop-sideslip was a strong combo in this game.
The time on target is insane and getting behind or into the side of your opponent is really easy.
Having rerolls even on 2 dice is pretty good because you can keep the calculate for defense (or for K2-B4)
DGS-047's ship ability was amazing and helped a lot. After the first 2 ships died and the locks disappeared he kept the single reroll online.
I brought rocks which was the wrong decision. Bring Gas Clouds and sliiiiide through them (or debris because they have good blue maneuvers)
Having the same initiative helped a lot. I split my formation midgame which created even bigger killboxes.
Even if K2-B4 didn't trigger that often I think it's a strong card in this list
I really have to see how the HMP is doing against beef or 3 strong aces.
Flying this list was a ton of fun!

Or my personal favorite:
4-LOM 4 ship disruption lists. Just bring 2 or 3 other ships that mess with tokens or are just massive threats.
4-LOM (49)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Mist Hunter (1)
Jamming Beam (0)
Ship total: 60 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 5
Unkar Plutt (29)
Ship total: 29 Half Points: 15 Threshold: 3
Old Teroch (56)
Fearless (3)
Ship total: 59 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 2
Talonbane Cobra (50)
Predator (2)
Ship total: 52 Half Points: 26 Threshold: 3
Total: 200
Other standard stand-ins in the list include Palob, Seevor, and Torani.
And then there's this beautiful list:
4-LOM (49)
Advanced Sensors (10)
Mist Hunter (1)
Jamming Beam (0)
Ship total: 60 Half Points: 30 Threshold: 5
Palob Godalhi (40)
Moldy Crow (18)
Ship total: 58 Half Points: 29 Threshold: 3
Torani Kulda (48)
Cluster Missiles (4)
R5-TK (0)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Ship total: 53 Half Points: 27 Threshold: 5
G4R-GOR V/M (28)
Ship total: 28 Half Points: 14 Threshold: 2
Total: 199

Burius1981 got a reaction from Greedo_Sharpshooter in Kitchen Sink aka Scum Salad
@Greedo_Sharpshooter I like the above list better than your earlier iteration. Seems like everyone else hit the important stuff. Fenn definitely needs the Fearless or Crackshot or Predator to try and take advantage of his high attack potential. Not a list that I would be excited about seeing across the table from me lol, so you have that going for you.
The generic Lancer is interesting. Not a ship that an opponent can ignore because of the upgrade combo, but then again Fenn is on the table as well. I really like that idea.
