  1. Care to elaborate on the source of the irony there? What did you find wryly amusing?
  2. Well one couldn't talk about the prequels. I've never hated them. But it became just a reflex action to prove your geek-cred to hate the prequels. One didn't talk about them because it would be like trying to talk to me about the sequels. You know what most people are going to say and anyone who might have enjoyed them is going to be furtive about it. I tried to point out several of the things in the Darth Jar-Jar theory on coming out of the cinema after Episode I but everyone was just so so angry. It isn't "marketing" though that has made the prequels cool. The inadequacies of the sequels just made it safe to say you did not hate the prequels. Clone Wars animated is pretty cool stuff. Giving that a go has made many folks re-evaluate the prequels. You got kids who grew up with Clone Wars becoming/are grown up enough to stand up to those who would run them down for it. Marketing just figured out there was actually a market for prequel era content. They didn't "invent" it. It has been a bit interesting watching and reading stuff from the staunch prequels-suck crowd with the coming out of those who've enjoyed the prequels for awhile. I've seen several folks here and in the Armada forum who seem downright scared when they think any of the non-OT stuff is kind of cool or interesting. I get that vibe a lot from folks who run down Clone Wars animated. It is almost as if they can't let go of something. As though they didn't learn the lesson of the prequels. It makes me wonder sometimes if the hatred of the prequels has a single thing to do with any of their cinematic short-comings and if prequels-haters see a lot more of themselves in Anakin's fall than they find comfortable. They are "terrible" because they hold a mirror up to a terrible and scary part of themselves.
  3. Lists with ARC-170s. Empire. Lazy Caricature of Empire... errrrr... First Order If anybody else shows up Rebels. Wherever my whims take me except sequel era factions when I don't want to play ARCs. Usually Scum or Rebels.
  4. Lost the first engagement on Yavin. Got one-shot killed by an Interceptor through over-charged forward focused shields while trying not to joust. Was 0-7 before scoring a point. Game was 20-0 at one point. Basically couldn't get out of the spawn. Have you had that experience?
  5. The problem is the TIE bombers are not killable even if you are not on the bad side of the hit registration. This is not an uncommon complaint.
  6. And here is the old thread.
  7. Part of the issue in dogfight is trickling back in from being killed. You can not hold your respawn to come in with more of your team. You then get a lot of being outnumbered and then the match snowballs against your team. Why am I ever spawning beneath the station on the esseles map? It is sheltered and that is good but you are so far from the action already when you spawn. I have not also made any specific claims till now as to what needs changes but it seems to me that a bunch of things being complained about are the sorts of things a beta test finds. It is early and they need time to gather data but while fun there are some things that need changed and some of it seems like it should have been clear before release it would be an issue. I am trying to be constructive with my criticism because overall I do like the game.

    Custom foam trays?

I have quite the stack of Games Plus Products foam from Miniature Market. It depends on what you want to do as far as organizing your ships. You need at least the 2" thick foam for most small base ships like X-wings to be transportable on their bases. ARC-170s on their medium bases will go in the three inch block. You could but I do not think it is worth it to try and transport the large base ships on their bases. You can put two Falcons and their bases tokens and dials in the 1.5" foam if memory serves. You are compromising between how much you want things to remain assembled and together with overall height per the bag you're using (if you're using one their bags.) You can make trays for obstacles and bomb tokens and dice and maneuver templates out of the 1" block depending on your opinion on stacking that stuff. The big benefit is that you can organize your stuff to your liking. I made a block for a Firespray a Jumpmaster and a Lancer and their bases. It isn't as cheap probably as the tackle box or plano box route. You also need to make choices for what you're going to take with you since your space is limited. For going to the shop for me with a lot of stuff already put together I just have to pull the list out of the foam and put the list back in the foam. I labeled the sides of the trays so it is easy to find factions and ships. Ship tokens and dials live with the ships. So if I have all my Republic foam I have all my Republic models, bases, dials, and tokens except for cards (but you can organize the blocks for cards if that is your preferences.) It works for how I like to do things. But I don't have a budget committee to answer to on this stuff.
  11. It is as mentioned with Scum not particularly having an identity. It is also a question of being very much with the fluff for bounty hunters and for smugglers. It goes back to that world-building in Star Wars, "She may not look like much but she's got it where it counts. I've made a few special modifications myself." Where did they find Han Solo? With the best pilots. So probably all the best pilots have made a few special modifications themselves. Bounty Hunters and Smugglers are operating outside the law or out on the raggedy edges of the law with very bad people. You need advantages against them. You may be doing villainy yourself. Why would you care if something is legal? In the early Brian Daley Han Solo stories there is a character there to "audit" Han Solo because his ship is not to spec. He has military hardware on the ship. It is not to spec because he's a smuggler. He disobeys the law to make a living why would he obey the law with regards to what he puts on his ship? The Empire doesn't want the citizens to have access to military grade hardware.
  12. I suppose. Properly segregated matches seems to be the goal. I know that lopsided matches have been my norm though. And in the reddit for the game there are a number of posts from players being unable to move out of the bottom tier as ranking doesn't seem to be working properly.
  13. There isn't enough being done with illicit upgrades and modifications for Scum. It has always seemed a bit not with the fluff for any scum ship to hit the table without a modification or illicit or illicit modification on it. One of the failings of 2nd Edition thus far has been in not having made that more of a thing for Scum and even Rebels somewhat. I've always thought Imperial ships should be "straight off the assembly line." Empire doesn't "fix" stuff or upgrade stuff in the field. They just get a new one. Rebels should have a bit of that but also more holding stuff together and making it better with whatever they can buy, beg, or "borrow." Scum shouldn't have much of "stock" about them at all (although there comes a chance of add "sub-factions" to Scum with your Concord Dawn being a bit more "by the numbers" and your bounty hunters not leaving the hangar without changing something.) But as has been noted we do not play Upgrade X-wing we play Chassis X-wing.
  14. Points spent on a bid i.e. a better chance to choose when you move upgrade need to be scorable without needing to destroy the entire list. They need to be "on the table" just like any other upgrade. If Soontir needs a bid upgrade a player who only kills or half-points Soontir should be able to score the points or half-points Soontir spent on his bid upgrade just like a player would on any of Soontir's card upgrades. Aces list protect points by keeping them off the table but they've spent those points and got something for those points even though they are not on the table like they would be if a bid were thought of as a type of upgrade.
  15. Yes. I understand that is the point. I think though that is both a good and bad thing. It is good because that is the kind of game I want to play. It is far more engaging to me than the Starfighter modes in Battlefront which I still rather enjoyed. However this is not the sort of game that's going to attract the broad very large audience trying to be proved by the concept here. The game needs more noobs and more ways to keep the noobs away from the practiced and talented. The game doesn't provide enough ways to do that. The game doesn't provide you ways to easily link up and find other players. It doesn't let you stick with a team through multiple matches to find out if you want to add the other players or even remember them from your met players list. Well the single-player clearly seems meant to have had more interactions between your character and the other pilots in your squadron. It feels to me as though it was all initially visualized as a bit more than a tutorial for multi-player. From a story standpoint by the end of it you're running both Titan and Vanguard squadrons and to me I think there was a bit more of trying to win your squadmates over in the conversations you have with them. There are clearly problems with the customization saving. The single-player has glitched saves and trophies. I have finished the story and the game sees that I finished the story. But it dropped my medals so I didn't get the story completion trophy. It keeps dropping my medals in a restart. There are clearly some issues with trying to replay the game or change difficulties or so on. At this point in the existence of games with achievements that should not be in the state its in. Even in game priced at $40. As to the multi-player at minimum we're still in a beta test. Spawns needs adjusted. Weapons and perks and ships need adjusted perhaps even re-thought a bit. The game is "finished" in that they've polished most of the rough edges on the stuff they had and completed that. But in my opinion they were still well away from where that polishing should have started i.e. "This is what we've got and what we can finish by delivery." They finished what they had but they didn't have everything they needed to finish. It is a subtle but worthwhile distinction. I also think that stuff they didn't have might have caused a re-consideration of what it was they did have. Look I like the game. I think it is worth the full price I paid for it. It is almost the game I've been asking for since 2015. I will keep playing this for a while even with what I consider its shortcomings. Because even with those shortcomings I'm still having fun with it.
  16. I'm ending up in games with guys in Australia. Whatever my shortcomings as a pilot and virtual starfighter mechanic that is going to be an issue for me. Yes. I understand the concept. I lack in executing the concept. I think overall the game is just simply not finished. I think what they've given us is entertaining enough and mostly seems to work properly but the game feels like a second draft and needs a "re-write." The multi-player has issues that would have been revealed in any sort of open beta. While multi-player is fun but if you do not have a friends list full of other people on the game you're really adrift. You keep shifting lobbies so if you fall in with some other guys on mics you're gone next match. Also the gameplay is quite difficult both from just functioning in the game and from a needing to work with a squad.
  17. The game has some balancing issues, and particularly some matchmaking issues. This morning and afternoon I was finally able to complete some ranked matches after a week. I also didn't have dreadfullly long waits for a match nor did the matches seem horribly one-sided. I suspect we've had a bit of an increase in the population. I tried disabling cross-play though and couldn't find ANY game. So I think I'm at a few disadvantages beyond simply my skill level. I also feel I'm a little on the bad side of the hit registration or else I need a considerable re-consideration of which components and things I need on my ship. I am clearly at a disadvantage in TIEs with having difficulty using the power shunting between engines and weapons. I can't seem to kill anything and it isn't entirely my aim while I visit the kill screen in under two seconds with considerable frequency even through over-charged and shifted shields. I have more but I am in a time bind.
  18. That's something that was being talked about in the T-65 thread wasn't it? Points adjustments alone not being able to fix something. If you drop them any more then you've got some other problem. It seems to me the Handmaidens need paired with some expensive and deadly large based ship with low agility so they can be the escorts they seem designed to be. They'd still need a better way to get their evade tokens.
  19. The ST stuff looks like OT stuff and it's new and the OT stuff is "old and busted." I think X-wing is the place where the create a doppelganger of Star Wars strategy of the ST was successful.
  20. It is more an unwieldy tactic to my thinking (which I suppose is the same thing as being not solid.) If the Handmaidens could get their evade tokens without needing to do a 3-5 speed maneuver you could better use them as the blockers or screening ships their initiative and the Decoyed condition suggest they be used as. And at 42 points they are rather worth shooting at. The ability sort of depends on the Decoyed ship being worth shooting through the Handmaidens instead of at the Handmaidens.
  21. Well it was the licensor who "suggested" that Force be represented in the game. We were still getting Legends content with Disney at the helm as they took over in 2012. Now perhaps some of that was stuff already approved and in the pipeline before the purchase and new directives had not been issued. It has certainly seemed since Last Jedi that there has been a de-emphasizing of the old Legends material in the various tie-in products. I also point out though that Disney has not really divested themselves of Legends. They have appeared quite willing to allow the old-canon EU to remain in print in comics and novels. I think there is likely a bit of turmoil regarding licensed products at the moment. I saw an article about why the nicer sorts of collectibles related to the sequels weren't being released and the response was there just wasn't any interest in them. I suspect the licensor wants tie-ins to the new films and is encouraging them and discouraging Legends and OT tie-ins and the licensees aren't all that eager to produce the sequel tie-ins. I see the sequels stuff languish in my local collectible shop. I think the OT stuff we're still getting overall in Star Wars tie-ins is to a degree necessary for Disney to allow (or simply contractually obligated to allow) to not have producers of tie-in merchandise just not renew their license and have the well dry up. I wonder how much of the sequels stuff we've seen is produced because of contractual obligations on the parts of the licensees as opposed to profitable pursuits. The new Star Wars Squadrons videogame could have been given a sequels skin. I wouldn't have bought it though. I think Disney would like it if only their five films and Mandalorian were the entirety of Star Wars merchandise. But I think they also know there wouldn't be much of a market for that. I think that the sequels factions are successful in X-wing as much because of the drought of OT content as much as engagement with them as a faction. And that is likely a point of contention on both ends of the license agreement.
  22. I think the issue with the conversion kits is that they are really just a revision of first edition. They just gave everything a second edition coat of paint and patched up the broken bits. They are not specifically second edition designed cards. They are an early draft of what is now second edition. Resistance some and First Order some but especially Galactic Republic and Separatists are Second Edition Factions. They haven't particularly given Rebels, or Scum second edition stuff. Empire seems to be working but then they took away all the first edition stuff that took them out of the game. But that stuff was the large base 360 turrets of Rebels and Scum. It isn't just no new OT stuff since the start of second edition it is no new stuff to even start second edition.
  23. Per FFG Twitter: Non-huge ship, non-epic games only will be supported by the app.
