Yes. That is reasonable. I'd still like the announcement. What do I expect between TODAY and the end of the year? All of those products I listed above. Do we expect them on time or not? It is reasonable to expect them on time. On Monday many people thought it reasonable they would still be employed today. What is planned and what actually occurs aren't always similar.

I'm not ready to make a call on pulling the plug on X-wing and Armada quite yet. I am willing to set aside stuff that hasn't been officially announced and concentrate on whether we're going to get points for the product we're supposed to get this month. And I'd like an assurance that we can expect that product on schedule.

My FLGS was saying as we discussed this that 2nd Ed. cratered his sales of X-wing. Then Asmodee made him deal with another distributor by taking it away from his present distributor and it simply became not worth his time to deal with it. All these corporations are making a mess for the local shops with games, comics, models, and misc. "Nerd Culture" stuff. The idea of a new edition does seem problematic.

Indeed. Through all of this I keep hearing, "this was long planned." If this has been planned presumably they know what they will do with the present assets as far production of these games go. It is reasonable to think that informing all of us of this plan will occur soon. At minimum informing us of the things we've been led to expect sometime by the end of March 2021 is a reasonable demand on our part. The medium and long term and even the short term are neither here nor there. But from here to the end of March 2021 constitutes the now term in my estimations. I would very much like to concretely know what to expect now. What will be the final FFG branded products? They could really start with that. Perhaps they could assure us of just what we should expect between now and the end of the year?

Republic Strategy for New Players on a budget
Frimmel replied to Makikis's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Yes. They don't need a lot. It goes against the conventional wisdom but I like Tail Gunner on them. I like the Sync Consoles and an R3 Astro. But don't sink a lot of points into them. I haven't used the N-1s much but they need to be a bit punchier so they need some torpedo in my opinion. -

Well I'm a bit leery of the price tag on Pro. Torps but I think that is a bit stronger. That Stealth Device isn't going to go very far on an ARC. -
Star Wars Miniatures moving to Atomic Mass Games

If MCP is an excuse to sell unpainted super-hero models then selling unpainted Star Wars models isn't really competition so much as a different audience for unpainted models with a bunch of possible overlap with hobbyists. -

I would drop the Expert Handling, and Stealth Device and swap the Proton Torps for Adv. Proton Torps. Then you can up the ARC to Wolffe with VTG or Cody and maybe even keep the Expert Handling though you'd be better off with something else. You don't barrel roll a lot with ARCs. -
You're not wrong. I pretty much want nothing to do with sequels stuff not Mandalorian. I don't really need more models. I have lots of models. I need easier ways to make interesting games with the things I have. Especially things that someone who doesn't own any of this stuff can come over and jump in and play.

The informally announced Q1 Clone Wars Expansions
Frimmel replied to Frimmel's topic in Star Wars: Armada
I'm not at all in that camp. I'm keeping my stuff. It is simply a question of whether I'll be getting more. If I get the Dec. stuff AND the Q1 stuff I'm good as I've got my game. Without the Q1 stuff I don't want the December stuff. I think you're mischaracterizing this as "panic." It is prudence. The move makes it a bit more clear why there was so much waffling about the new starter ships getting individual releases - they really don't know what's going to happen. So what else don't they know about? What else have they been holding back? No formal announcement on this Q1 stuff looks a lot different in the light of the just announced move. I don't suspect they're going to tell us it isn't coming. They've got to protect the release of the Clone Wars stuff presuming it is past the point of cancellation. They've taken pre-order for it. Cancelling that stuff is a lot different than simply not releasing stuff that was talked about in an eight month old video and again in the summer only in video. -
The informally announced Q1 Clone Wars Expansions
Frimmel replied to Frimmel's topic in Star Wars: Armada
Yes, well it seems there should have been a bit more of an announcement doesn't it? If only to help push the new starters and things. In light of the move it seems quite a bit more urgent at least to me. It seems reasonable that we'll see it. It also doesn't seem unreasonable that we won't. What is planned and what actually occurs aren't always similar. -
Wow. So much for no new stuff. Interesting.

Republic Strategy for New Players on a budget
Frimmel replied to Makikis's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
I don't use the Jedi Knight much either. I tend to roll with Snips and ARCs as I think part of the point of playing Republic is flying ARCs. (There are two kinds of Republic lists Quad ARCs and not enough ARCs.) I think I'd be inclined to drop the R2s and take another Delta-7B in the lists you posted. You've got a lot tied up in defense in those lists. Switching to CLT instead of Delta and dropping some astros or the Brilliant Evasion can get your ARC or torrents in the lists. -
I have enough stuff all the way around that I'm not sure how much "new" I really need any longer. I want this next wave and I am re-considering trying to collect the 1st Edition versions of the Huge Ships and maybe just adding stuff for larger games but if this is the end I'm alright.

Republic Strategy for New Players on a budget
Frimmel replied to Makikis's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
What have you been flying list-wise? -
Given I keep not making time to do any re-paints on stuff I do not think I'd be interested in painting or building ships going ahead. If I wanted to build and paint models I'd play Legion or maybe just build and paint models.

Republic Strategy for New Players on a budget
Frimmel replied to Makikis's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
A bit late to the party here but out of curiosity what list were you using? What list is he using? Have you sorted it out to your favor any? Added any ships to your collection? If you are getting "swarmed" by five ships that is a flying thing more than a list-building thing. Here is an all I3 list using the ships you have. Delta-7 Aethersprite - •Ahsoka Tano - 51 •Ahsoka Tano - “Snips" (44) •R4-P17 (5) Calibrated Laser Targeting (2) Delta-7 Aethersprite - Jedi Knight - 39 Jedi Knight - (37) Calibrated Laser Targeting (2) ARC-170 Starfighter - •“Sinker” - 54 •“Sinker” - Wolfpack Veteran (54) V-19 Torrent Starfighter - Blue Squadron Protector - 27 Blue Squadron Protector - (26) Dedicated (1) V-19 Torrent Starfighter - Blue Squadron Protector - 27 Blue Squadron Protector - (26) Dedicated (1) Total: 198/200 Depending on what else you have upgrade wise you could drop the Torrents to Gold Squadron Troopers and give them some Cluster Missiles. You can save points dropping the ARC to one of the generic pilots and perhaps pick a couple of different Jedi. -
Given the new regarding movement of design to a new studio should we expect those four Clone Wars expansions? While the movement of design news explains all the wishy-washy regarding whether the Clone Wars Starter ships would see individual releases it does not clue us in to the next wave of ships for the Clone Wars factions. I do not think I want the Clone Wars starters and squadrons without some sort of assurance those expansions will be released. While whatever might be down the road is down the road there is something of a clock on my needing to make a decision regarding this. Is anyone else on the fence about this as well without such an assurance? Is anyone else also considering cancelling their pre-order?
-
I don't want goodbyes and farewells either. That isn't productive. I do want to know whether I should I expect the pre-ordered X-wing and Armada product I've paid for on time and whether or not the informally announced Armada product that was alleged for Q1 can be expected. I need to know this while I still have time to cancel my pre-orders because I don't want the December Armada product without the Q1 Armada product. I'd also like to know if we can in fact expect the points updates for the new stuff (if its coming) in either pdf format or the official squad-builder? I don't need long-term or even short-term. I need some now-term information.

Star Wars Miniatures moving to Atomic Mass Games
Frimmel replied to Kirjath08's topic in Star Wars: Legion
Well there are some kinks to work out but as I've mentioned in Armada and X-wing (don't play Legion but I was trying to figure out what products you guys had hanging as I'm concerned about whether I should cancel my Clone Wars Armada pre-order) I heard a story about Games Workshop some time back. The executives showed up at the offices and lost their minds that all the employees were playing games. The executives were running a model company not a game company. I'm worried about how much all of these games are going to suffer for the sake of selling models and whether I might need to start assembling and painting new spaceships. Larger scale unpainted Star Wars figures aren't really a thing at the moment aside from Legion. And I would be talking 40mm or 50mm not the 32mm of Legion or the even smaller Imperial Assault. -
So as far as products for the games that are being moved we've got: X-wing: ETA, V-wing, Jango, Tri-fighter more or less on the way. Properly announced and previewed and availabe for pre-order. Armada: Republic Starter, Republic Squadrons, Separatist Starter, Separatist Squadrons, Card Update Pack, Dial Pack. Properly announced, previews began, up for pre-order. 2x Republic Expansion ships, 2x Separatist Expansions informally announced. Legion: Maul, Anakin essentially on the way with announcements, previews, and pre-order. Republic and Separatist Specialists formally announced and I think up for pre-order. Lando and Kallus up for pre-order without announcement of any sort. Have I missed anything? Other than those there are only leaks about things in the pipeline correct?

Star Wars Miniatures moving to Atomic Mass Games
Frimmel replied to Kirjath08's topic in Star Wars: Legion
It seems to me that a Star Wars version of Crisis Protocol is very likely. Something without a "board" like Imperial Assault has but fewer miniatures than Legion so they can be bigger and the game becomes tertiary to selling unpainted Star Wars figure models at $30 a pair. -
Well for the moment OP is quarantined. Going forward everything past the first of the year all the way around is pretty much a mystery at this point. Armada and Legion have stuff that was announced by official people but it hasn't gotten announcement articles for January/Q1 but we don't know if we're going to see that stuff which is a very big deal for me with Armada. I don't want the December stuff if I'm not going to get the follow-up stuff in January and I need to decide if I'm cancelling my pre-order. Given the nature of Crisis Protocol (the expansion strategy seems to me rapid with power creep) I'm a bit concerned for whether X-wing, Armada, and Legion will continue to exist in their present form. I also very much expect some new Star Wars game on the lines of Crisis Protocol (fewer pieces than Legion so they can be bigger, not constrained to spaces like Imperial Assault) with $30 unpainted miniatures of Luke and Han and company. After the announced and impending releases it is a great big pile of unknown with everything going forward. Ohh, and with the website that Atomic Mass has up I do not have high hopes for getting a new and better X-wing app.

My FLGS both of them will not deal with Asmodee distribution. We were waiting for a week or more after release day for stuff among other problems.

No. But I can't let it go. I didn't think it was particularly unclear or debatable. I was incorrect. I think these guys are just yanking my chain a bit. 🤷♂️
