  2. Literally before this game was announced me and a friend was saying if they made a SW mini game that allowed customisation and used a Warhammer/Bolt Action style play it would make a fortune.

I think they only thing I am not really a fan of is the us of cards and upgrade cards. But I can see why they have done it, when it helps you keep a track of abilities / equipment you have bought for the squads.

I am very happy with everything announced so far, I don't care about scale that allows FFG to make official Star Wars terrain to make the table top look more authentic

  3. General: Darth Vader with Saber Throw, Battle Meditation & Force Choke

Squad 1: Stormtrooper with DLT-19, Stormtrooper, Targeting Scopes

Squad 2: Stormtrooper with DLT-19, Stormtrooper, Targeting Scopes

Squad 3: Stormtrooper with HH-12, Stormtrooper, Targeting Scopes

Support: 74-Z Speeder with Long Range Comm-Link

Heavy: AT-ST with Commanding Presence, Comms Jammer

790 / 800 points so 10 points extra to spend on the AT-ST when more in known about the extra attacks it will be able to make with the missiles and mortar

  4. On 05/09/2017 at 8:19 PM, VanorDM said:

There is in fact female rebel troopers.  Someone has a good picture of them on page 3.  It's the trooper with the rifle in the firing position.  It is from that picture clearly a woman, but not done in an outrageous style.

No it wouldn't, not any longer.  It's been pretty well established in canon that there are female storm troopers, as well as officers and aliens aren't quite quite so poorly looked upon as the EU said.

The idea of HuMAN first is a EU thing, and was strictly speaking never truly canon, at least not G level canon.

If you want to reject the current canon, feel free... But in that case there's literally no point in debating it with you.

    Again I said in my post that female troopers could exist in the game, but the armour they wear would not be "modified" to show the breasts as for example ;

I know quite a few women in the costume scene that are scout troopers, and I have met the actual 1st female stormtooper on set of Episode VII and she wore the exact suit of armour the guys did on set. So no we would not need specially adapted models to "represent" female troopers, they are rank and file grunts. Yes you could argue for Imperial Officers of both genders and that is acceptable also as stated with Sloan and some others in the Rebels series.

I know Gwendoline was Phasma but the person I refer to in Episode VII was  Samantha Alleyne (www.imdb.com/name/nm7186328/)

  5. I have no issues with the Rebel side having female soldiers, they are a resistance movement of sorts, you could call them terrorists but that is another debate entirely, what I do care about is FFG is getting the correct Imperial racism in place, this was written so because the Emperor didn't believe non-human races were of any value other than to be slaves to work in the many Imperial production or mining facilities across the Galaxy.

The Imperial army should be made up of Stormtroopers etc... that do not have any variation to the armour than what is seen in the movies, and btw I know females that have trooper costumes and they do not modify them in any way, in fact most female troopers tend to wear the Scout armour.

So in the box and for future updates

    • Female and Male troopers
    • Alien races
    • Aged faces
    • Bearded faces
    • Variety of uniforms

    • Screen accurate Troopers
    • Human Male / Female Officers
    • Grand Admiral Thrawn as the only None Human characters

This would represent the Star Wars universe faithfully.

  6. The game as only just been announced, how the h.e.l.l does this subject even come up.

    • Queen Amidala - Prequels
      Hera Syndulla  - Rebels
    • Sabine Wren - Rebels
    • Ahsoka Tano - Rebels / Clone Wars
    • Jyn Erso - Rogue One
      Princess Leia - OT
    • Mon Mothma - Saga
    • Adi Galia - TPM
    • Depa Bilaba - TPM
    • Yaddle - TPM
    • Numa - Clone Wars
    • Mara Jade - Legends
    • Aayla Secura - Prequels
    • Luminara Unduli

    List goes on...

When Star Wars was being made in the 1970s the role of a female in the military was that of a support class (analyst, nurse) but kept away from front line, this is why when you look at the rank and file of the military make up of the Imperial Army (which was heavily influenced by the Nazis in the 1940s) you don't find (if any) Female characters in the uniform. This was later addressed in Books, Comics, Games and of course Episode 7

The main women of power in the Original Trilogy were in politics, which again is why there is a distinct lack of "Military" leader, back in 1977 Carrie Fisher made Princess Leia a kick *** female lead! the actual character was written as a support, purely through her acting skills. This then in turn laid the paving stones for actors like Sigourney Weaver to portray the kick *** character in the Alien franchise.

Star Wars was also guilty of not utilising actors of different race either, with Billy Dee Williams being one of an handful of actors of race been seen in the film. Although there were background artists portraying Stormtroopers, Imperial Royal Guards, Gamorean Guards etc...

The change in female character leads is only coming about now because of the SJW's claiming they are marginalised and miss represented and you should also be happy to note that the new era going forwards will introduce characters of different race, sexuality and gender which will become more fore front and shoved down our throats to make sure that the tick boxes are filled so that the SJWs don't march against Star Wars and/or Disney.

But before creating the post about a game that isn't released, set in an era that was written in the 1970s when the world worked differently, maybe just hold the brakes and do the research. I would imagine FFG will do what they have done for Imperial Assault and make up characters to join the squads.

  7. Now a lot of people are waving around the Warhammer 40K banner for trying to compare this product to it and to work out what potential costs are, however, reading and watching the demo game play through thoroughly this game stops being similar to Warhammer 40K at the point of building and painting a model.

In fact this game shares more with Bolt Action by Warlord Games, using units that move together in a squad and can fan out, using soft and hard cover. The only differences is instead of a Command Die with the orders on you get a token and perform IA style actions Move + or Aim + or Dodge then Attack.

That leads to a different thinking for unit pricing etc... So lets talk turkey, how much (could) this game actually cost us long term?

Imperial Assault Models sell anywhere between £7 - £15 with box sets costing in the region of £25-£70 depending on size (Twin and Bespin were £25) so we can safely see some reasonable prices emerging.

Bolt Action starter box set of an army is £70

    • 24 New Plastic US Airborne
    • 12 Plastic German Grenadiers
    • Plastic SdKfz 251/10 AusfD. 3.7cm PaK half track
    • Plastic Ruined Farmhouse
    • A5 Softback Bolt Action 2 Rules Book
    • Quick Start Guide
    • Quick Reference Sheet
    • 12 Plastic Pin Markers
    • Plastic Templates and Tokens
    • Construction Diagrams
    • 10 Six Sided Dice
    • 10 Order Dice

In the UK we can pre order the base Legion between £70 - £80 with % for pre-order

Bolt Action Expansion Armies are around £36

    • British Army Command - 4 troops
    • M10 Tank Destroyer/Wolverine (Plastic Box)
    • Universal Carrier

Bolt Action Infantry Box Set is £24

    • Enough plastic components to make 25 British infantry miniatures. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapon configurations and command models.

So looking at this we could probably looking at:

1x Hero figure (possible alternative attire / pose - between £10 - £15 depending on size

    5x Stormtroopers / Rebel Troopers around £15

    2x Recon Vehicle (Speeder Bike / AT-RT) £20-£25 containing

    1x Light Vehicle (AT-ST / Snow Speeder) £30-£35

    1x Heavy Vehicle (AT-AT) £45-£50

800 Point Army Generic including Generic Commander, Troops, Vehicles £65-£70

Light Terrain pack £8 - Barricades, Trees etc

Heavy Terrain pack £16 - Ruins etc...

    Modular Building  £15-£20

This would keep the game in a decent price bracket allowing for those hardcore, and none hardcore to be able to pick up and play along.

  8. Imperial Assault: Story driven campaign that is set in a specific era in the Star Wars universe using pre made models on a multiple changing tiled board game using campaign for the map design.

Legion: 6x3 game table with customised scenery as seen fit by the players, no story driven narrative.

Think of it as taking Skirmish mode from Imperial Assault and taking away the small size restriction and opening the world by 100 times the size.

Legion will cater for those that want to feel more like a commander and with an equal balance unlike Imperial Assault.

  9. I think you could do something with AT-AT units as a scenario but again they need to add something along the lines of this

    Table Size: 12 x 6

    Imperial Points: 800

    Rebellion Points: 1000

The Rebels have been able to establish a base on planet of Talus staging various assaults on Imperial bases in the Corellian system, however, the Imperial scouts sent by Lord Vader himself have found the base and have relayed the coordinates to their sinister commander.

Knowing that they have been spotted the Rebels have started to reinforce the bases defences ready for the Orbital bombardment and possible ground assault. Several days pass until the Imperial fleet arrives and Lord Vader personally is overseeing the ground assault and deploys a strike force from his person 501st Legion.

Rebel scouts relay the worrying news that Imperial walkers have been spotted approaching the base, and the base goes into alert, with pilots scrambling to get to their fighters and speeders.

Imperial: Deploy the AT-AT at the opposite side to the Rebel base with the rear of the base touching the edge of the game board, The AT-AT may move up to 1 space per turn and may use the Side Mounted guns and the Chin Gun at Range 3 or Power up the Chin Guns for a Pierce 5 ranged attack of range 2. The AT-AT will always activate last. (Free Cost)

Darth Vader must be used as your commander and the Imperials can not deploy another commander in this scenario

Rebellion: The Rebels deploy their troops at and around the base and any trenches, bunkers, barricades etc... they have set up receiving Heavy Cover

    Special Actions:

Rebel players may choose to send squad to the designated "Hanger" and launch a fighter squadron that will attack the AT-AT directly. If the Rebel player chooses to do this, that squadron of troops can not be used for 3 turns, 1st turn entering hanger, 2nd turn Fighters attack and expose (requires 3 hits)  the AT-AT for 1 activation allowing ground emplacement to damage the AT-AT walker. The 3rd turn is the Squadron returning to the Hanger and exiting the fighters.

Rebel Ground Emplacements:  May target Ground and AT-AT when exposed.

When Rebels activate the fighter squadron the Imperial player may use the AT-AT attack to shoot the fighters, this will act as its attack activation for this round, any fighters destroyed will result in the death of 1 of the Rebel troopers that entered the Hanger.

Commanders can not pilot the fighters.

    Win and Lose Conditions:

Imperial: The AT-AT is within attack range 2 of the Rebel base

Rebels: The destruction of the AT-AT walker

    Bonus Objective:

Imperial: The Rebel's commander is defeated

Rebels: Darth Vader is defeated and forced to withdraw

This is at least an idea for an Epic scenario

  10. Star War is a rich and diverse universe you should tend to look into the following "grouping"

    Imperial - Empire
    Rebellion - Rebel Alliance
Neutral - Night Sisters, Mercs, Black Sun, Hutt Cartel, Bounty Hunter Guild etc...
Sith - Sidious (Palpatine), Vader, Dooku, Maul etc...
Jedi - Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke etc...

I am seeing lots of potential for the expansions, just remember though if they do eventually release an AT-AT any player against them will have some horrific time even with the use of Snowspeeders, they may actually hold off on AT-AT until they can come up with a counter balance because AT-AT were designed to take a beating and some. More Snowspeeders were destroyed than AT-ATs in the assault of Echo Base and of those ground troops on the Rebellion side none of their ground emplacements could even scratch the paint work.

Quite literally you put an AT-AT in play that would pretty much be your entire points pool and your opponent would need to just hope and pray a Lightsaber will be able to get close to take out the legs.

  11. I am not new to FFG games now I have played Imperial Assault (with a friend doing Campaign) and I have played X-Wing at a game store a few times. I don't have the creative or artistic know how to paint models and "hobby craft" my friend tends to take a few models, file and paint etc...

Anyways that out of the way, I really don't care what size the models are, I am sure FFG will release terrain and there are people who own a 3d printer that can do it too and no doubt hobby sites and eBay will be littered with terrain and mats etc to make the game look nice on the table top.

I had seen rumours of the game and thought about how if it turned out like Warhammer with a multitude of options for building I would instantly be put off, to me IA is perfect because the figures are there ready to go from the start, then I bought into Bolt Action (never really kicked off) and I enjoyed reading the rules and the building the army.

My take on Legion is literally a Bolt Action style game with the FFG throwing in cards instead of a Squad Codex which is perfectly fine, I honestly like the idea though I would have like to have seen them use more of the 6 sided diced and order dice like Bolt Action.

So without the saltiness around from other people, I pre-ordered my Legion copy today, I don't have to sit and complain about expansion in this game effecting any type of "Canon" because from what I gather there isn't a story narrative to this, it is literally taking the Skirmish mode out of Imperial Assault and making it much much better! That way those of us that enjoy the Imperial Assault campaign wont have to hopefully worry about stupid expansion that don't make sense to the timeline they set the game in.

Here is one excited Star Wars fan looking forwards to the release of Legion and getting to play a large scale war in my bedroom with my friend.

P.S: I am hoping they release alternative versions of the characters (Luke - ANH, ESB, RotJ and TFA) etc,..

  12. The new Jedi ability reads

Exhaust this card when you exit a space containing a hostile figure and roll 1 blue die. That figure suffers equal D to the D result. Apply +1 D if you are Hidden

OK at what point can you "exit" a space an Hostile figure is position, is this referring to the option to pass them using the movement point and suffering the penalty if applicable.

Think the wording could have been a little better

"Exhaust this card, when you pass through a space containing an Hostile Figure roll 1 Blue Die, that figure suffers equal D to the D result. Apply +1D if you are Hidden"

  13. Fan Side:

Yes I would love to have Obi-Wan, Greedo and the Inquisitor in my game and not doubt I will buy them when they are released. These are a range of popular characters inside the Star Wars lore

    Business Sense:

Yup FFG have basically used the ££ / $$ here and realised the potential for extra profit from the IA range, and introducing canon characters to a game which as it fair share of custom characters, so I can understand them wanting to cash in.

    Campaign Sense:

Lets review the time line for IA, The 1st Death Star as just been defeated and the story continues...

The Grand Inquisitor - Dead at this point, and as been dead for several years

Obi-Wan Kenobi - Dead, having recently died on the Death Star before it was destroyed by Luke and the Rebellion

Greedo - Dead, having been killed days/weeks prior to the destruction of the Death Star.

So unless they are going to be introducing "Rebels" era tiles and expansion I dont see why the inclusion of these three characters now from a time line perspective
