  1. Where are you at that Armada isn't big?
  2. Officially, the FAQ would be the rule, at least until they update the FAQ. However, as a TO, I read and follow as a guide all their email rulings. A perfect example is how Palpatine interacts with Omega Leader. Or the timing of Wampa......
  3. The way I read it is that other PLAYERS can't use them. However, TO's and other officials there can.....
  4. Well, then, are the going to change how Valen works with this new ruling?
  5. I recommend, sir, that you check out my post in the main forum on how to beat them.
  6. First off, lets look at the two main U - Boat builds. Build 1 Contracted Scout Extra Munitions Plasma Torpedoes R4 Agromech Deadeye Guidance Chips 33 points *You can upgrade 1 to a proton torpedo if you want to run 3 of these ships in a build Build 2 Contracted Scout Extra Munitions Plasma Torpedoes R4 Agromech Deadeye Guidance Chips Recon Specialist 36 points *note you can upgrade to Proton Torpedoes for +1 points each Both function pretty much the same, however there is a huge difference between Build 1 and Build 2. With build 1 you are able to field 3 of them for a total of 98 points. With the focus token available each ship can deal a maximum of 4 damage each, and having the focus token converted to a target lock with the R4 and a guidance chip to change another die only adds to the increased chance of having 4 hits vs your opponent. That makes it a maximum of 12 damage (without direct hit crits) that can be dealt in 1 round of shooting. Build 2 is a little bit more involved. First off, at 36 points each you can only field 2 of them. That does leave 28 points remaining to add some good support or blockers. I personally run it with a cluster missile/lone wolf 25 point build N'dru for an additional 8 potential damage alpha strike. However, for 3 more points you get that extra focus token. Why is that so good? Well, first of all if you have to spend a focus for defense you still have one available for offense. Also, they are really good if you have both for offense. Let me explain. You attack with your torpedo spending a focus token, thus gaining you a target lock. You roll your dice. You now have a focus, target lock, and Guidance chips to try to get 4 hits/crits. It is very easy to do with this setup and once both torps have been fired having 2 focus tokens in the late game is also rather nice. What makes the U - Boat build so great is that it is the first ship with a EPT, Salvaged Astromech slot, and Crew Slot. Having 2 torpedo slots only adds icing to the cake. So, great ship but very unique. Personally, during the playtesting FFG should have realized the power of 2 torpedo slots (with Extra Munitions) and not had 2 on this ship. So, how do you beat these builds? Well there are several options. 1. Obstacles Most U - Boat drivers will setup in the bottom right of the board to take advantage of all the green maneuvers. Take big obstacles and block their way. Keep them close to each other. Dirty the playfield up as much as possible so they can't fly in formation and prevent their squad take an easy route to your ships. Yes, this means you have to do some decent planning ahead of time. But, by keeping this in mind you hurt the U - boat player in their direct standard play. 2. Arc Dodgers Remember, while the U - Boats do have 2 attack turrets, their best firepower is out of their front arc. If you can dodge this arc, well, they can't hit you with their torpedoes in the first place. It sounds simple and stupid, but if its stupid and it works, it isn't..... 3. Token Prevention and Denial Wes, Omega Leader, Carnor, Palob, Dark Curse, these are some of the ships that your opponent doesn't want to see against them. By denying and/or stripping tokens from them to just straight out preventing them from firing their torpedoes can be a significant blow to their list. Yes, this does make those ships a priority target, but while they are in the game they are extremely deadly to this type of build. However, stripping focus tokens is easy. Pulling the target lock is a bit harder.... 4. Stress Along the same lines, get them stressed and keep them stressed. Again, by denying them actions or the ability to use their focus tokens they can't attack as effectively. Stress is even better because it also prevents the use of a target lock. 5. Biggs Darklighter Hey, when all else fails give him another target to shoot at so he can't hit your main force. 6. Range 1 Remember, their torpedoes only work at range 2-3. Get into range 1 so they can't hit you. 7. Out Damage them Throw enough damage back at them to kill them first so they can't bring their full firepower to bear. 8. Agility and Health Take ships that have high agility or high health. Make them spend all 3 shots just for the CHANCE to kill your ship. For example, it is much better to take the Falcon than a Z-95. Shuttles are better than TIE Fighters. Y wings are great. In Conclusion Yes, U - Boat builds are big, mean, and scary. Yes, they can pump out a TON of damage. However, there are many ways to beat them. This will change up the meta much like TLT did from the previous wave. Truthfully, that is a good thing. A stale meta kills games. Look and see what the 4/4 build did for Imperial Assault and the drastic changes FFG had to make just to make the skirmish game viable again. The sky is not falling people so don't panic!
  7. FAQ PG 17 Q: Can I shoot at and deal Damage cards to a destroyed ship that has not been removed from the play area due to the Simultaneous Attack rule? A: Yes. Now, I was discussing this ruling with a couple of people and they stated that it keeps certain ships on the table longer than they should. Here is the example. I have a TIE Swarm (PS1 + Howl) It is now the swarm's turn to shoot. They must shoot at Biggs because he is the valid target. After say 4 TIE's have shot, Biggs is dead. I still have a couple of TIE's to go. Under the new ruling, my friends say that Biggs stays on the board until all my PS1 TIE's have shot. I say because it is not a Simultaneous Attack rule - Biggs is not PS 1 - this bit of new FAQ news doesn't apply. Who is right?
  8. Hey, the good news is, if you decloak, you get the free 2 barrel roll/boost reposition......
  9. Drea Renthal (22) TLT (6) Overclocked R4(1) 29 pts Drea Renthal: After you spend a target lock, you may receive 1 stress token to acquire a target lock. Overclocked R4: During the Combat Phase, when you spend a focus token, you may receive 1 stress token to assign 1 focus token to your ship. Stress doesn't affect these cards, and as long as there is a target in range for the target lock (as you don't have to acquire to the same ship), you are able to maintain the target lock/focus.
  10. According to the FAQ for Valen Rudor (FAQ PG 10): If Valen Rudor defends against a ship equipped with Tactician, the range for Tactician is measured after Valen Rudor performs his free action. Valen Rudor Text: After defending you may perform a free action. Tactician Text: After you perform an attack Summation: There is a timing window that happens there. so yes, Dengar gets to shoot at Whisper before she cloaks, etc.....
  11. TLT is worthless on the Shuttle as it can only perform one of the attacks.
  12. Doesn't really address the issue with R7, but it's a game effect that originated from a ship OL has locked. Is it safe the follow the same logic as the bolded section above? If so, R7 would not activate. That is correct. While this ruling specifies "Add dice results", rerolling dice results is ALWAYS a modification, and thus should not be allowed based on this ruling.
  13. Exactly. I really have no need for these. Me? I am WAY more interested in the new colored bases........ However, when they finally get around to creating their own acrylic tokens/templets, I will be the first in line......
  14. FFG has stated that player can choose which damage deck they want to use. And yes, picking the one that gives you the greatest advantage is not only allowed, FFG encorages it! They have stated that they want a healthy, varied meta and made clear that two damage decks help with that.
  15. Everyone is forgetting one major point: OL states that the opponent can't modify ANY dice - it doesn't specify that they can't modify their own dice. Because they can't modify any dice, that means theirs, their opponents, or anyone elses dice. It doesn't matter who rolls those dice. Both astromechs trigger during their respective "Modify Dice" step and it goes without argument that they are dice modifications. So they don't work with OL target locking them.
  16. If it is not an effect that modifies the opponents dice, when would the cards be used? I don't think anyone is disputing that it is an effect that modifies the opponents dice. What is being disputed is whether it is the owner of the effect or the one that actually rerolls the dice that counts as performing the modification. When it happens doesn't seem like it would matter (as long as it is happening sometime during an attack). I'm guessing that you are referring to this bit: "Modify Attack Dice: The defender can resolve any card abilities that allow him to modify the attack dice. " The ruling on Palpatine shows that there are other things that can happen at this time other than abilities that have the defender modifying dice. However, the difference is that the ruling on Palpatine is that he is allowed to modify dice of the red target locked ship ONLY if the Shuttle/VT isn't the locked ship. Palp can modify dice of other ships, but if OL locks Palps ship then his ability doesn't work (for OL's attack/defense)
  17. Sorry, no, that is incorrect. Omega Leader - Enemy ships that you have locked cannot modify any dice when attacking you or defending against your attacks. 1. You refers to Omega Leader, 2. The "Ship" referred to here has the red target lock token - is the ship, pilot ability, and any upgrade cards - such as C-3P0, R7, etc. 3. "Modify" means to add, change, or reroll AFTER the initial roll of the dice (so things like Miranda's ability still works). 4. R7 and F4-B11 only works with the ship it is on, it does NOT work when another ship in your squad is attacking or defending. Because NO dice can be modified by the SHIP (and its upgrade cards) with the red target lock icon, R4-B11 (which works when attacking) or R7 (which works when defending) have no effect when OL has that ship targeted.
  18. The TO at one of our SC's here actually said it's written in the tournament packet that, if the winner already has a BYE, it should be given to the highest-ranking player who dies not already have one (this came up at one of ours). Can't confirm, just what he said. Yes, if you already have a bye it goes to 2nd place if you win it. As for traveling l, look at Richard Hsu. He has been from MO to NV to AL, almost literally coast to coast. No issues. Me, I hablce traveled 3 hours more than once for a SC.
  19. Slander you say... Maybe we should report emmjay? Or was that his plan all along? Finally, someone gets it! Get enough reports, FFG will read it! Maybe, just maybe, they will respond and say SOMETHING! Assuming the OP is correct and they will only go on the forums if enough complaints are heard, or something like that.
  20. Fixed the date for ya. At least someone got the troll. I hope other threw out their Armada in disgust.
  21. I emailed FFG about this topic. It is official as of 03/04/2016..... ..... As of the beginning of the year Fantasy Flight Games will no longer be supporting or producing any content for Star War Armada. While Store Championship and Regional kits were produced before that date, they will be the final events officially supported as well. The reason is so that Fantasy Flight Games can focus on its more popular games such as X-Wing Minatures and Imperial Assault. 22. Hey, Wave 2 for Armada has been released for some time. We are waiting for Wave 3/Huge Ship/Aces pack for that first...... Hell, we got a couple of weeks ago word of Imperial Veterans for X Wing!
  23. Independence, Mo Roseville Ft. Worth (Possible)
  24. Except, here is the rub. They didn't do a top 4 elimination. "they kept it standard format and games went by seed" So, from what I am reading they didn't play the final game. What would have happened if the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place person won, and potentially won the entire event by MOV? Can you prove that everyone else was not coerced or "guilted" into not running the final round? Anyone can concede at any time. If player two chose to concede to player 1, why end there? Why didn't players 3 and 4 not fight it out, maybe they had a chance to come in at a higher end point? Maybe the original poster already won a store championship and then the regional bye (which a player can only have 1 of) would go to the next player. Here is the thing, and I want to be VERY clear. Rules are meant to be followed. I TO/Judge X Wing all the time. The one thing that I absolutely love about doing so is that most of the time (95%+) when I am called over its to judge arc or distance. Very rarely (except when a new wave comes out before the accompanying FAQ) will it be to make an actual ruling on something hazy (Like what Omega Leader can/can't do). Or, sometimes its to explain a rule to a new player who may not be completely familiar with them. Penalties need to be harsh for this event and these players. The reason is so that people in the future don't do the same thing, where more can/may be on the line. What would happen if someone tried to do what they did here at Gencon, Worlds, or even at their System Open at Adepticon? What would have happened if the top 8 in their event during round 5 just called their matches and decided not to play and end it there?
  25. No all 4 players where involved, it wasnt set up as elimination rounds, they kept it standard format and games went by seed, the final round was never played by anyone, it ended up just the 1 round after the cut, we talked about it and like i said it was not getting very late and 2 of the 4 had 2+ hour drives back home, the gentleman who beat me the that last match and the judges made the decision to call it. So, the TO decided to do his own thing and not follow standard protocol by having a top 4 cut and elimination bracket - ok, different, but technically not a violation. You still admit that the final round wasn't played, and as such you admit to breaking the rules. By talking about "Ending" the tournament early, by INTENTIONALLY not playing any planned games, cut and elimination or round robin like you did, is WRONG. You admit to colluding, with our without the judge/to approval or not, it was wrong. Since you now admit that it was the entire top 4 plus the judge, well there needs to be severe consequences. 5th place, who you admit wasn't a part of your breaking the rules, should be declared the winner, Your top 4 should be punished under the harshest penalties, and all your prizes forfeit. I have submitted this post to FFG Organized Play for breaking their tournament rules under their suspension policy. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/spolicy/
