Is the YV (even remotely) viable in the current meta?
emmjay replied to GlobeTrotting's topic in X-Wing
Jonathan Reinig won CO regionals with a Dengar/Bossk combo. -
First off, I am not a fan of two day regionals. Either start earlier or do a limit of 64 players as that is all FFG gives prize support for anyway. As to your specific case, as a TO, i would have informed 9th place if I knew how to easily and let them play. I do understand why he did what he did, though...

^this^In my usual (if not only) gaming-group we have agreed to use the squad-builder to play whatever you want. No proxying miniatures. Maybe use the wrong base-cardboard to test a pilot you don't have. Yep. Totally agree. I proxy stuff all the time in casual games by just bringing a squad builder printout. Especially if a card or few comes from spoiled (but not released) components. For tourneys I regularly lend out items I don't use in my list to help others. I will never proxy a model.

As a TO there isn't much I can officially do to mess with matches. Especially in competitive and premier events. However, if you have had a problem with a player in the past, depending on the transgression, talk to the TO in advance and let them know of all problems. Also, was it just some petty crap (ie just crying and complaining) or something quite serious (blatant cheating/lying)? If the incident(s) were bad enough, did you talk to a TO at the event at the time?

I got into a discussion the other day with a fellow Star Wars fan. We were arguing what was official Cannon and what was EU. From what I can tell, per Disney, the following is considered cannon: All Movies (Episodes 1-7 + "Star Wars Stories") Clone Wars TV Show Rebels TV Show Books that have come out since Force Friday (those book specifically written after Disney's takeover) What about everything else that Disney approves before release? The Jumpmaster 5000? Manaroo? They appeared in Tales of Bounty Hunters. Are they now retconned back into being cannon? Same thing with the Mist Hunter. What about all the planets in the Rebellion game. Honoghr, for example, first appeared in the Thrawn trilogy. The TIE Punisher was from Galactic Battlegrounds. Does that make that PC game now cannon? Disney is pulling willy-nilly from EU and original sources and it gets confusing......

Ok, so a couple of days have passed since FFG announced the new expansion Heroes of the Resistance. Like many of you, I wasn't expecting it at all. I was hoping for a Scum Aces pack, or even a E-Wing/HWK/T-65 type "Veteran" pack. Not what was expected, but I am curious as to what else is in the pack. What got me the most is what wasn't revealed in the pack as to what was revealed. What I mean is, the following cards were spoiled: 1. Millennium Falcon Title 2. Rey (Falcon Pilot) 3. Poe Dameron 4. Black One (T-70 Title) - Not truly spoiled, but you can read the card. We can also see several other cards whose names are spoiled, but the only other card in the box that we know the text of is the previously released Integrated Astromech. So, we don't know the text/cost of 10 upgrade cards and 5 other pilots. What I don't like is the fact that a couple of months ago when FFG posted the Imperial Veterans announcement article, they spoiled the following cards: 1. Gamma Squadron Veteran 2. Long Rang Scanners 3. TIE X7 4. TIE/D 5. TIE Shuttle - Not truly spoiled, but you can read the card. 6. Tomax Bren - Not truly spoiled, but you can read the card. 7. The first part of what a Tractor Beam Token does (reduce Agility part, but not the boost/barrel roll part) Four other pilots were not spoiled (Countess, Maarek, Glaive and Deathfire), but from what we could see we could make out enough to come to the conclusion of what Maarek's ability was. Also, with the exception of the Systems Officer, all the other upgrade cards were already known (which means 3 pilots weren't spoiled, and 1 upgrade card). Basically, we knew 90% of what was in the Imperial Veterans pack, and we know less that 20% of what is in the Resistance pack. I mean, simply put, the Resistance Pack announcement article kept me wanting, well, more. And, without knowing more, I am really not that excited for it.

It all depends on how you load him out. Bossk: Base Cost (35) Now, lets say you want to take advantage of his crit to hit ability as much as possible, so you add a Mangler Cannon (4). While not needed in the strictest sense, it does allow you to guarantee one crit each attack. Absolutely worth it for 4 points. The only real drawback is its main arc only. Alternatively, you could go with Calculation(1) + Rec Spec(3) to get a crit (if you roll a focus) out of all arcs. But that option greatly limits what else you can do as far as crew is concerned. We will say that you put on a 1 point EPT (VI/Crack Shot/Determination all make good choices), or for 0 put on Adaptability. VI if you want to compete against PS9 ships (Soontir/Whisper/Han/Vader/Wedge) and is really nice with a 2-3 point initiative bid. Crack Shot is good to push that crit in if your opponent rolls really well. Determination is also nice as it allows for some damage mitigation. For free put Adaptability on it. Going to crew slots, Lets say you want to maximize how much potential damage you can do. 4-LOM (1), Zuckuss (1) and Dengar (3) are good options for this. 4-LOM and Zuckuss as they limit how much your opponent can evade, and Dengar for the reroll on your attack dice. Total Cost right now: 45 points. Here is where great customization comes in. Glitterstim (2) or Inertial Dampeners(1) are decent Illicit upgrades. As are Feedback Array and Hot Shot Blaster. You can even leave that slot free. As far as modifications, Engine Upgrade(4) is nice as it allows for better ability to turn, Hull Upgrade can be useful if you are using Determination. Maneuvering Fins is also an option. Long story shot, yes, 50 points is average for a decent Bossk loadout.

Can't always trumps can. Just to be clear, this is an actual rule. Check out the Rules Reference on page 2, under the heading "Golden Rules": When Omega Leader's ability conflicts with Poe's, OL's "cannot modify" wins. Correct, other instances of this are Damaged Engine Crit vs R2/Unhinged Astromech,

Thanks to a local FLGS employee, I finally played (and learned how to play) my first couple of games of aGoT. I fell in love instantly with the game, and have bought 2x core as well as 1 of every expansion. What I am asking is the following: 1. Are there any general guidelines as to how to construct a deck %'s, gold curve, copies of cards, that sort of thing? 2. The 7 cards in your plot deck, banner, and agenda, do they count to the minimum 60 card deck limit? 3. Are there any beginner, yet viable, lists out there? For example in X-Wing a new player would be suggested to play 4x Y-Wing w/TLT, or 2 large turret ships. Something easy to play and learn. Rather than something that requires tons of skill and knowlege like Imperial Aces or TIE Swarm. 4. It is advisable to go with a house and another banner, or are single house builds really viable? Any other good advice for a new player who has 2 weeks to get ready for his first tourney, and 30 days to his first regional? Many thanks in advance.

I think Armada New ships will be told on May 4
emmjay replied to Cubanboy's topic in Star Wars: Armada
Look, after they have totally emptied my wallet with Armada Wave 2, X wing wave 8, Rebellion, Game of Thrones Trivia, and other fun stuff........ I can only hope that Flotillias are it for Wave 3. My wallet needs a break! -
Z-95 - I see Airen Cracken from time to time for action economy. Blout has new life with the Tracer Missiles A-Wing - Jake and Tycho are always popular. 4x Green's are always fun. Y-Wings - Sure, having 4x with TLT is easy, same thing with a stress hog, Horton is a blast with TLT. X-Wing - other than Biggs and Wedge, situational for lists. Wes isn't a bad option in the current Jumpmaster Meta. T-70 - Regen is pretty dead with Ordnance spam. Useful, sure, good? Probably not. HWK - Aaron Bonner won a Store Championship with one (Kyle). Jan also has some fun uses. Falcon - Han and Chewie only. Lando isn't seen. ORS? Laoughable.... K-Wing - Miranda only, but again pretty dead with current meta. Ghost is great and there are so many ways to build it out. The new "Hotness". Phantom? Haven't seen much in the way of them yet. Though, for fun I have seen and played around with 4 of them......

Ok, say I have Manaroo out and she has a target lock (blue side) on her ship, IE she is targeting something. Further, at the start of combat I give that target lock to another ship per her ability. Assume that the new ship also has a blue side target lock on their ship from their action. Can that ship now have 2 target locks? Remember: 1 was an action by the ship itself 1 was assigned per another ships ability

Serious alternative to current tournament scoring structure.
emmjay replied to arkhamssaber's topic in X-Wing
Here is how it should go. Yes, Math Wing........ If you win you get 1 point, 0 for a loss. MOV is calculated as the following: Points of ship (with upgrades) / (Total Hull + Shields) Yes, that means for each point of damage done you get some MOV, it doesn't matter if you kill the ship or not. **** NOTE: round to first decimal. Examples: Academy TIE 12/3 = 4 points 58 point Super Dash 58/10 = 5.8 points Standard Soonir Fel 35/3 = 11.6 -
I hate to say it, but the T-65 has seen lots of love. Integrated Astromech, Targeting Astromech, BB-8. Richard Hsu won/made final table in several store championships with Biggs and/or Wedge.

Attanni Minlink: Each time you are assigned a focus or stress token, each other friendly ship with Attanni Mindlink must also be assigned the same type of token if it does not already have one. Assigning a Token to Your Ship:When an ability instructs you to assign a token to your ship, this is different than performing a free action that provides the same token. For example, Kyle Katarn’s (pilot) ability allows you to “assign 1 of your focus tokens to another friendly ship at Range 1–3.” A ship that has a focus or evade token assigned to it can still perform that action during the round. The way I first thought I read the card, each time I perform a focus action, do a red maneuver, have R3-A2 hit my ship with a stress, receive a stress from Tactician, or similiar, all ships with Mindlink receives one of the same if they didn't already have one. However, upon further reading, none of this is the case. Nothing that gives stress gets passed on (Tactician, R3-A2 both state "receive", not "assigned"). Heck even doing a red maneuver, the rulebook only states that a stress token is placed next to the ship in the play area. So, what is it good for? As written "...assigned a focus or stress token..." the card is almost completely worthless. There are only 3 scum ships (no other Scum upgrade cards????) that have the ability to assign a focus token and/or stress token to another friendly ship: Manaroo, Palob, Kaa'to. So, if I don't have those ship(s) and their abilities, and the squad ships have Mindlink as their EPT, is it not completely, utterly, useless. As in, no way to viably play it? Or, am I reading it to much Rules as Written and not Rules as Intended?

No, FFG stated before Worlds 2015 that while Worlds would be required to use the new damage deck, the old one was valid "for the forseeable future" (or words to that effect). The reason was that they wanted variety in the Meta. And, it goes hand in hand with listbuilding. For example, some lists (4BZ) really like the old deck as several crits don't affect them. Where as some lists (Aces) do want the new deck because while harsh, they aren't as bad as the old deck.

Question about Crew Member: Kanan Jarrus?
emmjay replied to Final Draft's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
Kanan Jarrus can remove the stress from the ship its on. It can be its own friendly ship. Now, had the card said "another friendly ship" then he couldn't do it. -
Intentional Draw ruling, Page 6 Tournament Regulation FAQ: "During Swiss rounds, players may intentionally draw a game so long as a leader is present for any discussion between players prior to the agreement. The leader’s presence is required to prevent any breach of the tournament’s integrity. The leader will not intervene as long as players follow the “Unsporting Conduct” on page 3. If two players intentionally draw a game, each player receives 1 tournament point and a Margin of Victory of 100, just as if they were to arrive at a natural draw over the course of play." Unsporting Conduct, Page 3 Tournament Regulation FAQ: Players are expected to behave in a mature and considerate manner, and to play within the rules and not abuse them. This prohibits intentionally stalling a game for time, placing components with excessive force, inappropriate behavior, treating an opponent with a lack of courtesy or respect, cheating, etc. Collusion among players to manipulate scoring is expressly forbidden. Players cannot reference outside material or information during a round. However, players may reference official rule documents at any time or ask a judge for clarification from official rule documents. Collusion among players to manipulate scoring is expressly forbidden. This phrase is what makes ID's illegal. Any player knows their score, because they know how many wins/mod wins/draws they have up to this point. With the official Tourney sheets players can also calculate their MOV. Most tournaments also print out and post ranking with score and MOV. This is almost a guaranteed good thing as players can see/look for any errors in reporting, which happen from time to time. Because anyone can know their score and wish to ID they are colluding. players may intentionally draw a game so long as a leader is present for any discussion between players prior to the agreement. So, if anyone hears the players talk about drawing before a TO gets to the table for the "official" discussion, they need to speak up and prevent the ID as the prior discussion breaks the rules. Honestly, there is no case where ID's can be allowed and NOT mark it as collusion. Yes, that means that in large events where going into the last round there are multiple x-0 and x-1, the second you do an ID you manipulate the scoring. What happens if one of the players who went x-0 (but had crappy mov each game, like losing a full IG-88 and 1/2 the other, so MOV 124/5 each game) ID's to get that last point. But, had they played out the match would have lost, so end up x-1 with crappy MOV. And, what happens if someone going into the final round x-1 (who had insane MOV each game) wins the final match. Had the x-0 NOT taken the ID their final record of x-1 would have been lower than the x-1 of the other player, potentially knocking them out of contention for the cut. Here is another scenario that you might see as "Pseudo" legal. You are playing in the final round of swiss. You know you are (most likely) going to make the cut regardless. As soon as that thought pops into your head, you are colluding to manipulate scoring. The reason why you are want the ID at that point become meaningless, as you are using the ID to secure your spot and go and rest/eat/whatever. It doesn't matter if you call the TO over and actually have the discussion/offer to ID with your opponent. The second "Cut", "Place" or similar words are used, you are colluding. Ergo, not allowed. How absurd can this get? Simple. Go to the regional this weekend. EVERYONE ID EVERY GAME, INCLUDING THE CUT (which won't happen). The end result will be EVERYONE wins, every gets everything. Period, end of story. I can't wait to see the email the TO sends to FFGOP stating that they need a lot more coins, dice, acrylics, byes, and plaques because EVERYONE won.

Lets start out by saying this. A lot of X Wing players have played other games, both miniature and not. Some of these, like Magic the Gathering, have the potential to give a player tons of incentive to win at all cost (WAAC) due to the great prize support. Namely cash. They also foster some of the worst human emotions and actions. I have seen Magic players (not to mention Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh) get so upset that they break down and cry, flip tables, and even ripped up cards. We also hate the stuff that Games Workshop does where Power Creep is very much a thing and players are almost REQUIRED to buy the biggest and best thing each time it is released just to stay competitive. Due to the ultra high competitive scene, cheating occurs quite frequently, and even in the local area many players have been banned from playing due to cheating. FFG games, until now, have great prize support, but nothing truly amazing. Yes, granted, cool new dice, great alternate art cards, hell, collect enough coins and you can use them as shield tokens. (Hey, I know Brad Miller and love to see him play. Heck, at the start of the Store Championship season I traded him my Phantom Dial because his were so worn out and loose - and I don't play it anyway. This is not meant to be mean, I get the joke with him and would have laughed my ass off if I ever play him and his list with 8 coins and shield tokens......) The only true value is what one could get on Ebay, which while nice, isn't a ton of money for more common items. But even for rarer items like dice they still only go for $100 or so. But then the System Open happened and for the first time FFG has handed out some serious prize support with some substantial cash value. I mean, all expenses paid trip to London! Hell yah! Doug Kinney did X-Wing its biggest favor by introducing the Fly Casual system. This initiative was one of the biggest draws in X-Wing. Especially from someone coming from 40k or another hyper competitive WAAC game. What I mean is, while X-Wing is a great game and has an excellent competitive scene, players play to have fun and enjoy the great game. Players play for the honor of the win, not for the prize support. World Champions Doug and Paul are great ambassadors to the game and generally (this whole ID fiasco notwithstanding) exemplify the entire Fly Casual idea. Sure, Paul may go in depth and plan and prepare and work and try to win (to the extent that he even does a presentation on what to expect, or what he thinks will happen), but seeing him play, well, he plays very well. And still manages to live up to the Fly Casual mentality. Now, lets come to the crux of the post. Intentional Draws. How often will they happen? Who knows. Hopefully only at large events like Regionals and up. I hope they don't start to become common occurrences at Store Championships or even smaller events with the kits. What I do know is this --- If the prize support for top 4/8/16 is so **** important to you, go and buy it on eBay. When I go to events I go to play a great game with great people. I love driving several hours on a Saturday to see people I haven't in some time, people I only really converse with on Facebook or these forums between larger events. To enjoy a drink, shoot some ships (and ****), and have a great time. Its not about the prize support or winning. However, now FFG (specifically their Organized Play section) has decreed that people must now WAAC. The concept of Fly Casual has gone away. The X Wing game I have played for years has ended. So, what am I going to do? Its simple. I am going to vote with my pocketbook. I will NOT buy any FFG product until something changes that makes ID's either useless (except for the x-0 top 1/2 people in the last round) or something happens to the tournament format that makes ID's rarely viable. Yes, that means that the Rebellion game I was going to buy this weekend and really enjoy playing on April 30th for International Tabletop day, the 2nd ISD for Armada, all of it. I will NOT support a game developer that promotes the WAAC mentality. Bring back the Fly Casual. Bring back the FUN

Other things that are technically legal but MIGHT be shady....are they shady?
emmjay replied to Velvetelvis's topic in X-Wing
Do you NOT have to have your list submitted before an event starts, reguardless of bye or whatnot? Thought that was the case..... -
What, you can't do that!!!!!!! He can't do that!!!!!!!! Can he do that????????

This message is for anyone who thinks that this game is dead and wants to sell their collections. I am happy to purchase full lots, including all tokens, upgrades, etc. at 50% of Minaturemarket.com prices. I will also pay 1/2 price the going rate on ebay for promos and other alternate items. Send me a PM with your full ship lists. Its time for the quitters to put their ships where their mouth is.

Had a guy win McPherson, KS Store Championship. 46 players. 4-1 in Swiss. This was his Ghost list that he took..... Dash Rendar (YT-2400) with HLC, Kanan Jarrus, PTL, EU, and Outrider. "Chopper" (VCX-100) with Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, FCS, and Ghost

I was playing Imperials and had Omega Leader target locked Zuckuss with 4-LOM as crew. I also had my evade token and a focus token. Zuckuss attacks me and he adds the extra die, which is allowed in the FAQ. What about 4-LOM? Can he deny me my dice modification tokens? Now, the FAQ has made clear that the evade token is like adding an evade die (as shown by the Autoblaster FAQ - Hits can't be cancelled by defense dice and that also includes other added evade results). Focus tokens are used to modify dice indirectly. And we know that "Modify Dice" is 3 rules: 1. Add a result (Advanced targeting computer, evade tokens) 2. Reroll dice (Predator, Target Lock, Han ability) 3. Change a result (Chirpy, Mangler Cannon) I argued, and he understood, that the evade would not be able to be cancelled as it is a direct add a result. However, he argued and I saw his point, that the focus token could be denied usage due to 4-LOM crew. Thoughts? Ideas?
