Off how? To big? Not square? I will say this, I did get more pegs than I should have for each of the ones that I bought.

Does the FAQ go into effect immediately? Will we end up with JM15K players crying into their pints? Its effective NOW.

Why would you EVER target lock with Han?
-
Just add a Recon Specialist crew. You still spend 1 focus for deadeye, have a 2nd during the attack for R4 Agromech, and Guidance chips to change a final die. True, this limits players to 2 of them in a build (36 points each) but it gives you enough points to add a 3rd decent ship.....

NO, just NO. You want to know the "Best" players? Listen to a podcast or two, or more. Listen to who they talk about. Nathan Eide, Aaron Bonner, Paul Heaver. All great players. What about the guy from the US who won the System Open in Chicago? Great player, sure, lucky, absolutely, one of the top players? Who knows. We don't need this kind of crap here. We don't need to add elitism here. This is about a FUN SOCIAL game. Not some elite jerks. YOu want that, play magic!

I have been reading and looking at the Systems Officer and how to integrate him into squad. First off it allows ships that normally are unable to take a target lock action the ability to do so, or give a target lock to a ship in general to increase the likelihood of getting more damage through. However, there are three downsides to this card. The first is that it only triggers after you execute a maneuver. Not before. So, putting it on a PS2 bomber that moves first isn't the best choice. You want to put it on a ship that moves later and a plan on what ship to give the target lock to at the start of the turn. Second, you are limited to range 1 to give the target lock to. Yep, move to far away from your formation and it becomes useless. Finally, you can't give it to yourself. That, I think, is the biggest drawback of this card. As an imperial player, I would have been happy to pay 3 points (like Scum does) to allow the ship that its on to get the target lock, or 4 points so its any ship in range 1. So, with that in mind, I am looking at the following ship: Tomax Bren (31) TIE Shuttle Cool Hand TIE Mk 2 Engine Systems Officer Fleet Officer This ship build has been mentioned before, but it bears note to go over it briefly. Cool Hand allows me to receive a Focus or Evade token if I take a stress. Since I take that stress with the Fleet Officer, I have the potential to have both a focus and evade token on the bomber. Because it is on Tomax Bren, Cool Hand doesn't get discarded.the TIE MK 2 Engine gives me more green maneuvers to take to allow Systems Officer to proc more. So, whats goes well with this ship? As a player you could keep it simple and go with a combination of 3 Gamma Squadron Pilots/Veterans with munitions. Not the most original idea to be sure, but one that has great potential. For example, you could have 2 vets with Deadeye and Plasma Torps. They move and one takes a Target Lock and the other Focus'. When Tomax moves he gives the target lock to the Vet who doesn't have one already (to hopefully a target in range and arc). He then activates the Fleet Officer to give himself a focus token and the other Vet who took the Target Lock. Finally, since Tomax received a Stress Token, he gets a free Evade or Focus. However, if you want to be sneaky and dastardly, why not toss in the standard 35 point Soontir Fel? Granted this wouldn't work the first turn as Soontir Fel moves after Tomax, but on subsequent turns it does. Move the Bomber using a green maneuver to within range 1 of Soontir. Since you know where Soontir is going to be going you can give him the appropriate target lock. Also, using Fleet Officer in conjuction with Soontir Fel, if Soontir turtles up, he can have 1 evade token, 3 Focus Tokens, and a Target Lock. It also allows him to free up an action and still have two focus tokens. Finally, you could use the build in support of Colonel Vessery (Tractor Beam, VI, TIE/D). Playing on Vassel, I have added Howlrunner and Wampa to make a deadly four ship Imperial build. It also allows me as a TIE fan to take Vessery and still get more use out of him. So, is this worth it? I think it is, as long as you build your list to take full advantage of his abilities.

IG list - Adaptability and TB or Crack Shot?
emmjay replied to KnightHammer's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Adaptability, while good in certain instances, isn't that good here. Bumping up to PS7 (or down to PS5) doesn't help in a large majority of games. Aces will still be above you (PS8+) and generics will still be below you. True, you will gain the PS advantage against other IG builds. Crack Shot, on the other hand, is wonderful. The threat that your opponent must roll (or spend tokens) to equal your hits/crits +1 is almost worth it as a threat alone, not to mention the potential damage. Forcing your opponent to spend more tokens, OH, and then GUNNER procs so they have to hope to roll more, well is quite nice. TL;DR - go with Crack Shot just for the threat it poses. -
At a tournament, I would cry foul and demand you use my maneuver templates for 1 reason only. The 2,3,4,5 straights all are divided into 1 speed segments. By careful manipulation you can get a good sense of where to go/speed to take for your next turn. That is why official FFG products (not to mention other good Acrylic sets like Litko and Team Covenant) don't do it.
-
No, it isn't. TACTICIAN: After you perform an attack against a ship inside your firing arc at Range 2, that ship receives 1 stress token. Limited. Due to timing in the FAQ (see its interaction with Tractor Beam (If a ship is equipped with both Tractor Beam and Tactician, the tractor beam token is resolved as part of the attack, then the distance is measured for Tactician.) Either way, you only get 1 stress from TLT or Cluster Missiles. Its under the same premise as Latts Razzi and his ability only triggering once.
-
The problem, the BIG problem...... You are at PS2. Missile boats move after/shoot first. So do aces and many other lists. There is a good chance that one or two x wings will be dead before you start shooting back. Or, worse yet, not have an arc vs dodgers. Remember that you NEED the target lock, and at PS2 thats hard to get for a guaranteed shot.

Look at it this way, for 100 point dogfights you will need at least the following (based on different list types), more if you want to run epic/escalation. 22 shields (4BZ) 8 Evades (8 TIE Swarm) 8 Focus (8 TIE Swarm) 8 Target Lock ( 8 Z-95 Swarm) 10-15 Stress Tokens 8 Crit Tokens 8 Ion Tokens

Doesn't the new legal list cover this? Yes. They are not legal for use until 11 days after release now as per the new legal products page. When did this change? Last time I looked products are legal upon release.

Can one ship shoot at more than one Target ?
emmjay replied to Barry Harker's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
Ships with Gunner may attack a second, different, target. Same with IGb (and titled 88's). BTL Y-Wings can as well. Dengar may make his ability attack on a different target than his primary attack. HOWEVER....... The TLT and Cluster Missiles, while they shoot twice, must attack the same target. If you happen to kill that target with your first shot, you do NOT get to target something else for your second shot. -
I love scum. As such, lately I have had great success with the following list: Dengar (50) Punishing One title R4 Agrmech Adaptability Recon Specialist Zuckuss (32) 4-Lom FCS VI N'Dru (18) VI Its rub simple. You put Zuckuss and Dengar together and NDru range 3 away from them as a flank. As you are PS 9 and 10 you have almost guaranteed the best PS. Charge your opponents and wipe them out quickly. Dengar you want facing his opponent so he can shoot twice. Zuckuss you always use his ability for a 4 dice attack, hopefully with focus and target lock. 5 dice at range one. 4-Lom's ability is always a good thing. N'dru is just a nice Z that your opponent has to take down sometime, and generally not as the last ship where he can toss out 3 dice attacks with ease.
-
I run it with 4-LOM, FCS, and VI all the time. I generally don't play with the title as the focus/target lock combo with 4 attack dice at range 2-3 (5 at range 1) I want to deal as much damage each shot as I can. My favorite scum list using a Mist Hunter: Dengar (5) Adaptability Rec Spec R4 Agromech Punishing one Zuckuss (32) VI 4-LOM FCS N'dru (18) VI

Advice on ramping up the difficulty
emmjay replied to daddystabz's topic in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG
My favorite thing to do with powerful groups is put them in situations where their gear does little for them. My favorite was when they crashed on a planet thag uad a strange magnetic field and their energy based items didn't work. My second favorite tactic is them getting ambushed by various nemesis from time to time and get stunned and lose all their gear. They have had their bank accounts robbed, ships stolen, bases taken from them. Players have been kidnapped, droids have had their memory wiped. Tons to do. -
You complain about the core set in Armada. Well, remember, that was the first thing released. Things got VERY MUCH better. For a comparison, look at the X wing from Core 1.0 vs 2.0. See how much better that got? Same thing.

As a TO, here is how I would do it. 1. Get dealt damage, deal damage cards (and crits) until Tel is destroyed 2. Follow Tel's ability, canceling (discarding) all damage cards and deal 4 facedown. The second that you discard all damage cards (including the PS0 crit) you go back to PS7. And yes, that means, there is a possibility that you won't be able to shoot that round, if the attack was below PS7 and PS1 or higher. If you are attacked by a PS7 simultaneous rule applies. Same thing for PS0 attacker.

Team Covenant is the only way to go. You can get matching maneuvering as well as range rulers in the same color, and even segmented range rulers. And they have great acrylic other tokens as well.

Improve my list, post regionals (Palp Aces w/ Whisper & OL)
emmjay replied to ArbitraryNerd's topic in X-Wing Squad Lists
Agent Kallus is, by far, the new "hotness" with Whisper. Now, here's the trick. Whatever you mark with Kallus, unless its your best/only shot, don't shoot at it. Use it for later in the game. Much like how Omega Leader becomes more powerful the longer the match goes on, Kallus gets more powerful the longer the game goes on. Remember, that you can get an evade with it as well as that hit. Finally, and here's the best part. OGP+Emp, Whisper +Kallus, FCS,VI,ACD, OL + Juke, Comm Relay = 96 points. That gives you either a 4 point initiative bid, the option to upgrade to Yorr, or even add a Stealth Device to Omega Leader. -
Ok, several places now, even during the Store Championship season, have started to have two day tournaments. Day one is the "swiss" rounds and day two is the "cut". Really guys? In certain situations I can totally understand it, like say Gencon, Hoth System Open, or Worlds, where the player was planning on spending more than one day there anyway. There is a big difference between going to a single tournament (Regional, Store Championship, whatnot) vs. going to an entire weekend event. Going to Gencon this year I plan on being there several days. My hotel room is already booked, I have saved up for all the gaming, swag, food and extras. I shouldn't have to do the same for a single event tournament. WI regional was a week or so ago and it was two days. Several others have been as well and more will be as the Regional Season continues on. If I wanted to go and made the cut it would have meant that I needed to get a hotel room, spend another day in Wisconsin, and have a much later drive to get back home before work the next day. Yes, I could have dropped after the cut was announced, but what happens when TO's start to get smart and hold back top 4/8/16 prizes (as appropriate) until the second day? Then you really start messing with people who don't need to be messed with. I mean look, I have no problem driving 3, 4, 7 hours or so for an event. I regularly drive 3+ to go to events in Omaha or Columbia or McPherson or Tulsa (yes, I am near Kansas City). But to require players to spend a lot more money on a hotel room, not to mention the food and other things just for a single event tournament? What happens if someone is a Father/Mother and needs to get back to their child at night? What happens when you have a player on a shoestring budget already (hell, a college student really don't have a lot of disposable income) and you make them spend more for another day of gaming? Hell, if you have to be at work early Monday morning after having just driven most of the night and didn't the all the sleep required. Why can't you start earlier? Why start at 10 or 11 am when you can start at 8 or 9? You as a store who wanted to host a Store Championship or Regional event are putting an onus on players because why? You get tired? They do? Anyone can play well at 11am after a good nights sleep and hot breakfast and caffeine. But to do so at 7-9pm? Well that's the purpose of such a long tourney format. To wear players down. To get them tired. Please, do those players that can't do a two day tourney for a single event a favor - keep it at one day. Start it earlier. Do one less round - you know you have that power as a TO. Do something to keep it fun, and affordable, for all. Thanks.

Can I Resolve Blinded Pilot While Cloaked?
emmjay replied to AdmiralThrawn's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
No, you can't. Because it states "opportunity to attack". When you are cloaked you don't have that opportunity. Also, you don't have an opportunity to attack if you are on an asteroid, or if you have used the "slam" action and have the weapons disabled token. Also, Corran, on the turn AFTER he double tapped, has no opportunity to attack. -
One can argue, and I would agree, that the "best" pilot in The Resistance should never have been PS8 to begin with. He should have started off at PS 9. Even if FFG didn't know how good Poe was going to be in the movie, knowing that Poe was going to be the new "Wedge" should have been a big clue as to how powerful he will be. I do agree that his ability is good, and useful. Granted, in the current meta he isn't all that special as alpha strike builds can ruin him quickly. But, given how powerful he was, he will return to a good spot in Rebel lists. I mean, Paul used on version of Poe to win worlds and a few months later Aaron Bonner used a totally different version of Poe to win a store championship. But, is Poe worth 2 more points for 1 more PS and an EPT? Lets look at what FFG has done in the past to make Poe from PS8 to PS9. Adaptability is free. That would add 1 more PS for nothing. Whats more, Adaptability is worth more as the player can add or subtract 1 PS at the start of the game. A-Wing Test Pilot adds an EPT as a title. For free. Granted its A-Wing only, but FFG has demonstrated in the past that that they have no problem adding a 2nd EPT to a ship for free. So, for nothing, FFG has shown that they have no problem allowing players to add (or subtract) 1 PS for free, and give an additional EPT as a title, also for free. So, now we have a problem. FFG has now stated that for 33 points you can get a new version of Poe (with the same ability) with 1 more PS and keep the EPT. Is it worth it? I don't believe so. Granted, FFG should have released Poe at PS9 for 33/32 points to begin with. I mean, Wedge is 29 points and his ability could be considered far more useful as it works every turn you have a shot.
